skin, bone, and arrogance
As some of you may know, I write [member="Natasi Fortan"], who is a government big-wig within the First Order. I also write some other characters affiliated with the First Order and one who has recently left it in, shall we say, an explosive manner? We have a sort of NPC "Resistance" that provides an antagonist to First Order dominions, but the more I watch the new Star Wars film, the more taken I become with the idea of writing an underdog faction -- a group destined to hold no territory, to barely eke out an existence, barely managing to survive but still giving it 110% against overwhelming odds. A group of freedom fighters with access to Civil War tech, minimal surplus credits, no shipbuilding capabilities, and limited safe places to exist and catch their breath.
I know about the Underground and I think they're a fun idea. But there are reasons I'm contemplating the Resistance:
1. Story potential: we would work closely with the First Order ([member="Aram Kalast"], [member="Ludolf Vaas"]) and the Galactic Alliance ([member="Coren Starchaser"], I guess, until and whoever else runs the show over there) to create a strong and compelling narrative, not just for our characters (though that will be a focus) but also for our corner of the galactipolitical conflict. There is the potential for great character development, drama (in the form of character tragedy and triumph -- not OOC dramallama!), and classic Star Wars high jinks.
As part of that, I think one of the coolest and most underdeveloped part of the original trilogy, and the TFA lore, is the plight of the ragtag rebels -- constantly on the run, hiding out in such hospitable locales as Hoth and Yavin IV and D'Qar. Every battle was life-and-death, which made the victories that much sweeter and the defeats that much worse.
2. Low pressure: without having any territory to defend, we wouldn't need to worry about invasions, but could work out participation as activity, availability, and motivation allowed.
3. Come for the street cred, stay for the story: become a fighter ace in a thirty year old starfighter, or rack up the kills with out a fancy blaster, and establish yourself as a legendary combatant. But brokedown ships, outdated weapons, and such luxurious surroundings as a freezing ice cave without heating aren't the only things a Resistance faction would have to offer! Much like shoveling snow and cleaning the basement, working with limited resources builds character!
4. We'd have stellar music:

So -- any thoughts? Is this too much like existing groups? Are you interested in the concept? Suggestions? I'm open.
