It was calm.

Silent.

Except for the gunshots in the distance, loud music ringing over their head as another flying casino passed by, shattered glass as yet another store was robbed. So, truthfully, it was not quiet at all. Except perhaps in Alexei's head. Right between his ears. There it was peaceful right now. Cigarette between his fingers, eyes glazed over and tuned out as he watched another mag-rail pass by and completely content.

It was probably the liquid cc of Vapor running through his veins.

Always took the edge off, which the man was thankful for.

Some things you just shouldn't be conscious of, at least not during, as far as he was concerned. Not everything was perfect, of course. Someone was sitting next to him. Far end of the bench and as far away from him as possible. That suited just fine. There were only little moments that Alexei felt like being social. It wasn't while rocking high off his shoes, while counting the lights bouncing off the trains coming and going. Maybe if Alex wasn't so high he would have noticed it. The subtle shift in the atmosphere. The way tension leaked in and that calmness leaked out. It heralded the arrival of a set of individuals.

Three, though one of them fat enough he should really count for two. Packing? Certainly, but not just with bad intent, also a crowbar or two.

Alexei didn't know any of this yet, of course.

Right now he was singing a song in his head that just arrived at his conscious. It meant the high was coming soon to an end, but that was just the way it was.

Now one of them was screaming at the girl next to him.

"...what about that one, boss? Can't have witnesses."

"Kill 'im too."

That's where everything turned to chit.

Even when she was trying to keep her nose out of chit, chit found Vryi.

She hadn't even responded to the sound of gunshots. She barely even glanced around for the shattering of glass. Look the other way and mind you own damn business, that was how life worked for her. And it was working, too.

Was working.

Tension coiled in her chest as she heard the commotion break her way. The sky was dark, a single hololight illuminating the rail bench they sat under. She let out a bracing exhale, the sound reverberating in her ears. Trouble ambled its way towards her, two figures busting out of the store front across the street. A robbery. What was that, a pawn shop? She looked away, her gaze held steadily at her feet as glass crunched under a set of boots coming her way. Once more, she didn't respond, her hand wrapping around the hilt of a gun at her wait. The ample material of her sleeves hid the motion, her movements slow and methodical as she finally looked up to find herself confronted by two of the perpetrators. More shots came from across the street, their comrades doing hell knows. She was more concerned about the eyes that narrowed before her.

"...what about that one, boss? Can't have witnesses."

Part of her expected a few sharp words-- maybe a threat, or a boot to the face. Adrenaline bred violence, a fact she quickly realized she would not be escaping tonight. She shot the man spaced out on the end of the bench a quizzical glance, her awareness of her surroundings sharpening as the thug's words hit the air.

"Kill 'im too."

A flash of adrenaline sent her careening to the side, the waif of a woman dodging a shot that would come seconds later. She didn't think, instinct guiding her as she flicked out her blaster and pulled the trigger. The light left the shooters eyes before her shoulders hit the bench, the woman sprawling there to avoid further carnage.

If she didn't look like a fighter, it was because she wasn't.

"Fek," she complained, shaking her gun in an attempt to jam the malfunction thing into recharging. "I just wanted take out!"

Boom.

Boom again.

Two shots, one body hitting the ground and everything was chaos. Alexei paid it no mind at first. Which is where the mistakes piled up. Vyri should have immediately went on the attack, but instead was trying to sort out her blaster. This gave the fat man time to close the distance, crashing into her with all his blubbery worth.

This would have been fine, but then the remaining lad focused on Alexei.

Still spaced out.

It was probably that fact that saved Alexei from just being shot in the face. Always the cruel ones that first wanted to play with their victim, especially if said victim seemed entirely helpless. Instead of shooting him, he grabbed his shirt to haul him up his feet. "Ya worthless lil chi-" What followed was a sound forced out of the lad's teeth that resembled the whiny screech of a cat, whose tail had been sat on.

Reason?

Out of nowhere a hammer had slipped out of Alexei's sleeve. Now? It was embedded in lad's knee, which gave out almost immediately. Alexei made no sound as he dropped to his feet. All he did was pull the hammer back, then slammed it down at the back of his head. Something gave away. Nasty crunch that should have made him wince. Instead it barely registered. He glanced on over to Vyri wrestling with the fat man. Before his hazed out circuits could start on considering to help her more trouble came their way.

The friends of these 3 finally done with their robbery, or whatever they had been doing.

Looked like Vyri would have to solve her problem herself. Alexei was already walking up to them, slipping a pill between his teeth, because doing this sober seemed like one hell of a time.

Vryi hit the ground hard, the attacker's weight sending her end over off the bench. The curb dug into her back as he pinned her to the ground. She wheezed for a breath, tearing back at him senselessly. He yanked her hands away as she clawed furrows of flesh out of his face. Sounds of their struggle went unassisted throughout the street, an approaching figure stopping short as they observed the attack from affair. A set of punishing fists found Vryi's face.

She cried out, vision darkening on civilian's retreating back as her head rebounded into the ground.

Chit.

She came to to the same face above her, the fat on his cheeks caught up in a sneer as he focused his strength into the fingers squeezing around her neck. She bucked to life, her lung burning as panic set in. She clawed more lines into his face an arms, but neither of them seemed to feel the pain of the assault as her lips gasped pointlessly for air.

Her hand fell to the side, her strength fleeing with speed that startled her.

Feck. Feck no, this wasn't happening-- not to a damn robbery, not like this. Her blurry vision fell on the blaster that had been lost to the struggle, the weapon out of reach under the bench. Fear surged through her veins, burning like a hit of drugs. Power flooded her muscles.

The blaster jumped unaided into her palm.

Bang.

The shot went clear through the man's temple, his look of shock freezing over as he careened over... dead on impact.

She pried his fingers off her neck, coughing as air flooded her lungs.

"I wasn't... gonna... snitch," she complained, rolling him off her. This time she didn't hesitate. She raised her gun, her coughs raking her as she put a shot through the man to Baen Zavaleta Baen Zavaleta 's right. It hissed, overheating in a jam.

She really needed to get that fixed.

She picked herself up, smacking the gun into the ground as she went.
