3 people just got banned for a game of "telephone" that resulted in two Major Faction Owners thinking that the SWRP Staff Team was aware of something they were not aware of. Upon finding this out, I literally tracked the entire game of telephone down to its source. More than 15 people were involved.
I told them this, I'll tell the community, have your sources. Question others sources. Do not take things at face value.
Today was such an annoying mess for me to sort through so much unecessary gossip. I understand gossip, I do. Sometimes I do it myself. But if you invoke Staff's name, you had better be right. Because if you aren't, it breaks multiple general rules.
1. Users will not impersonate another writer.
Yep, this one is probably the furthest reach, but not even the best rules lawyer among you will stop me from slapping you with this.
2. Fire-starting, spreading negativity, or undermining public morale is prohibited.
Another one's a bit of a reach, but again, it fits for me.
3. Attempts to circumvent any of our security policies or rules will result in disciplinary action.
This one fits best, as its our general "obstruction" rule. If you put forward false information, whether or not you are conscious of its falseness, you ARE obstructing the SWRP Staff Team in performing its duties. I'll slap you with this too.
But mostly, I don't need any of these. If you gossip, leave the SWRP Staff Team's out of it. "Staff told me this", "Staff did that." You had better be right, and you had better be able to back up your sources. Because on the offchance it spreads out of your control, its possible I'll show up in your DMs.
The parties responsible got minor bans as a response, but if I see this happen more and more, I will escalate more and more. And the escalation will not stop until the problem stops. Do not invoke our name. You are not Staff. You have no right to speak on our behalf. You have no right to lend more credibility to your gossip by invoking our name. No matter how big or small you think you are, it will not be tolerated.
