DESCRIPTION
The Iron Fist Consortium is a paramilitary organisation and criminal network run by Enyo and the Typhos Clone Family - her siblings. Secretly, it is tied to Archangel Research and Design. Enyo uses the group to exert influence in the underworld, acquire information, money and beings to process. The group has no loyalty to any particular government, as Enyo views the galactic map with indifference, though it will opportunistically support factions when it sees a benefit. Overall, she is not fussed about who she does business with. For obvious reasons, its clients tend to be a darker persuasion.
Enyo Typhos stands at the top of the pyramid as the boss of the Consortium. Beneath her are her siblings and a group of trusted HRDs who serve as lieutenants. The Consortium fields its own paramilitary forces. Many of them are composed of cyborgs, though one also finds Kraal mercenaries, Shards and other exotic groups. It even has a band of Wookiee sellswords. The Iron Fist is involved in various enterprises, including mercenary servides, piracy, smuggling narcotics, illegal weapons, cybernetics and illegal nanotechnology. The Consortium has a small corps of Force adepts called the Awakened.
Internally the group is governed by a strict set of laws. Loyalty to the group is a key principle. Their code of honour includes the time and tested principles of omerta and vendetta. Diligence and efficiency are rewarded, while those who betray the gang can look forward to a most unpleasant fate, because their boss is a rather amoral machine-woman, who punishes disobedience with mutilation - and in serious cases with execution. The Iron Fist performs a policing function in the areas it has influence over because it would reflect badly on the boss if people in 'her' bailiwick were terrorised on the streets by a rival gang. Of course, it is only natural that the grateful inhabitants show their gratitude by paying protection money. The Iron Fist dislikes 'unnecessary' damage to bystanders because it is seen as unprofessional and causes too much attention, but members best leave their morales at the door.
Enyo operates on the basis of a carrot and stick policy. There is rarely any malice in what she does. She simply regards organic beings as tools that must be both incentivised and disciplined in order to maximise their productive output, and eliminated or processed when they become a problem. The only exception to these rules are her clone siblings.
The employees are a fairly diverse bunch, including young Coruscanti gangers, Gand OMNI cultists, Givin raiders, ex-One Sith Stormtroopers, assassin droids, Kraal warriors, Shards and fallen Jedi. And of course, the group has scientists, bureaucrats, lawyers, 'tax collectors' and so on. The accounting department is run by HRDs. All in all, it's a living, provided you have left your morales at the doorstep and don't mess up. Enyo lacks any personal interest in luxury or vice, and so she actually pays her minions quite well instead of pocketing all the profits.
The Iron Fist has acquired its share of property, including seedy clubs, warehouses, hotels, safehouses, casinos and even a a few spaceports. Its headquarters is a massive, mobile shadowport hidden inside a hollowed asteroid. Its 'legitimate' enterprises are run via a variety of shell companies and fake identities. The Consortium launders money through Archangel to evade taxes. If Archangel is the polite, if cold, well-behaved side of Enyo's interests...then the Consortium is the one with the mask off. It is still way below room temperature.
RATIONALE
From the moment she first breathed air, Enyo Typhos' life was that of a weapon in the service of others. She was intended to be a pawn, a weapon of the Force, even before she was born. Archangel Research and Design, secretly a cult of genocidal HRDs, created her and her clone 'siblings' as pawns to further their agenda of eradicating all organic life. Eventually, Enyo was able to break free from their control with the help of her sister Amara Zarides.
Once she escaped the clutches of her tormentors, she found herself a facing a number of issues. For one, she was without coin, an ID, employment or life experience beyond in the art of violence. Moreover, Archangel would be determined to either capture or kill her and Amara. Furthermore, she knew that Archangel still had other clones under its control, which gave her another reason to want to launch a private war against them. Besides, she wanted revenge for all the torment they'd inflicted upon her. For this she needed funds and minions. Predictably, she decided to acquire these in an illegal manner. Though she'd rebelled against her creators and their plans, their indoctrination had left its mark, leaving her a rather amoral woman with a grim, cynical outlook of the Galaxy. So she decided to set up her own gang.
The lower levels of Coruscant had always been populated by the dregs of society, the poor, the underprivileged and the criminal scum. Moreover, the 'Jewel of the Core' had suffered greatly during the Republic-Sith War. Through force of personality, intimidation and literal force, Enyo and her companions were able to bring a number of the smaller gangs under their control. To start with, she interrupted an illegal artefact trade by crashing the party with the help of Amara and a Kar'zun warrior called Zar'kahn, who sought to reclaim ancient heirlooms of his people.
After inflicting plenty of violence on a number of thugs, she informed the suitably cowed survivors that they worked for her now. This was probably preferrable to being shot or handed over to the local constabulary. Obviously it took some time until they properly acknowledged her authority and did not stab her in the back or desert the moment she turned around. A raid on the laboratory of a corporation called SYI ended unexpectedly when the director not only bought her off, but decided to sponsor her for his own proxy war against Archangel, a business rival. Enyo saw no reason to tell the closeted Dark Jedi that she intended to take over - and dispose of him once he was no longer needed. Doubtless he had his own plans though. Regardless, she put the fresh funds she'd acquired to good use, utilising them to expand her power base inside the slums of Lower Coruscant, carving out her own 'territory'.
At first, the Iron Fist was a fairly undisciplined, motley gang of deplorables and mercenaries. However, over time the organisation grew in influence, sophistication and size and became a potent paramilitary organisation. It increased its profits through blood money by fulfilling contracts for the Sith Empire and allying with the Contingency. Alliances with the barbaric Kraal and rogue Shards allowed it to expand its influence. Enyo came to rely heavily on cyborgs and droids, regarding them as more reliable than organic servitors. After freeing her clone siblings from Archangel's clutches, she began to groom them for leadership positions. Harnessing a Social Darwinistic ideology that drew upon the discontent of the disenfranchised, she recruited the lost and fallen from the slums of worlds like Coruscant and Vorzyd into the fold.
Eventually, Enyo was able to overthrow her creators and seize control of Archangel. From now on both organisations would march in lockstep, but officially remained separate. Enyo chose an HRD proxy to serve as her puppet Director of Archangel, while she pulled the strings from the shadows. The Consortium would allow her to exert influence in the underground and do jobs that Archangel could not officially be associated with. HRDs were increasingly appointed to senior positions or assigned to officers and local bosses as 'advisors' in order to keep an eye on them. Despite Enyo's puritan beliefs, the Consortium has expanded into the entertainment industry, purchasing casinos, hotels and seedy night clubs. It tends to run these enterprises through shell companies.
