- Mettle Tested | The vast bulk of the Iron Legion is made up of Imperial combat veterans, making them a disciplined fighting force capable of hanging in with the toughest fights against the greatest odds.
- Flexible Command | Deviating from ancient Imperial doctrine, the Iron legion employs a flexible and effective officer and non-commissioned officer corps able to adapt to battlefield conditions, trumping otherwise established battle plans to make for a more lethal fighting force.
- Bandit Fighting | Much of the time between the greater New Imperial conflicts was spent conducting counter-insurgency operations, making the Iron Legion adept at fighting guerilla warfare against both greater and lesser foes.
- The Old Guard | Much of the leadership is old, stubborn and difficult to listen to greener minds, making for internal conflict in the command structure only reigned in by Kroeger himself. Whilst their way of fighting is effective, the prospect of adapting to unseen changes to warfare is an undertaking.
- Lacking Support | As lethal as the Iron Legion is, it relies on its client military for greater logistical support to maintain its fleet of now aging Imperial vehicles, armor and weaponry. So too does it lack its own organic atmospheric or orbital starfighter or naval support.
- Poor Reputation | Whilst their skill as warfighters is second to none, the scars of the Empire's rule still marr vast stretches of the Galaxy, unhealed by the mostly human group's tendency towards xenophobia, crimes of war and ruthlessness on the field.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Much of the Iron Legion's history traces from that of the 1st Armored Assault Division of the New Imperial Order's military. Stood up in 860 ABY on the Hand of Thrawn following the Declaration of Defiance, the 1st Armored Assault Division saw combat through many major engagements of the Third Imperial Civil War and carried on into the Second Great Hyperspace War, acting as an armored breakthrough unit in strategic scale operations whilst finding itself in anti-insurgency and 'presence patrol' roles in the more dead stretches of greater conflict that demanded the attention of the New Imperial military.
After the government's dissolution, the Division's most senior officer, then Brigadier Arminius Kroeger consolidated its remnants on the planet Archais before retreating to the Outer Rim. It emerged under his command, taking refuge on the Legate-class Battlecruiser, 'Long Night of Solace' where it worked in employment of the Trade Federation to police its more outlying holdings, typically dispensing battalion and company sized elements to battle with pirates, terrorists, vandals and militia groups preying on the Federation's commerce network. It most recently entered the employment of the 'Dark Empire' where it saw combat on Empress Teta and Coruscant conducting large scale combat operations alongside the Dark Empire's forces. However, Coruscant left much of the Legion in shambles. In the wake of the conflict, Kroeger has rebuilt the pieces once more though has found his stock of veteran officers and non-commissioned corps diminished, forced to look to fresh blood to continue his work as a warlord-for-hire. - 1st Battalion, 16th Stormtrooper Regiment 'Iron Will'
