When the Ironsides broke ties with their Antarian Ranger roots, it was decided that they would be putting together their own armaments in the future rather than rely on some other company or faction for equipment. Designing each weapon themselves, thought was put into under which circumstances said weapon would be used, a high level of modularity, and achieving maximum firepower. Considering there were only twelve of them, that last part became especially crucial, hence all weapons used by the Ironsides pack a serious punch.
The Greatsword is a heavy assault cannon designed for medium to long-range engagements. Its high rate of fire coupled with large ammo reserves allows for sustained suppressive fire and is capable of decimating enemy patrols and advancing platoons with ease. It can be fired on the move to the detriment of accuracy given that the wielder possesses the physical strength to weather the recoil and control of its high rate of fire.
