+ Highly intelligent: Irys Arist'lar was offered a place at Bothawui's most prestigious university 2 years before normal applicants and graduated with a top degree in Engineering with Signals Analysis.

- Not politically savvy: A huge weakness for a Bothan, and the main barrier in her career
-/+ Risk taker: Irys favours an aggressive approach and is more comfortable with taking larger risks than her peers.
APPEARANCE:
Like most Bothans, she is of short stature. Irys has lightly coloured fur. She has a relatively long face, large eyes and long ears, which are all considered fairly attractive features for a female bothan. She favours simple jewellery and tends to keep her longer hair tied back
BIOGRAPHY:
Irys is the youngest officer to have received command of a ship in the last 50 years of Bothan history. She was described as a child genius and brought a great deal of pride to her clan. She attended the most prestigious university and graduated with a top class degree at the same age most young adults were applying. Whilst her teachers had high hopes of an academic careers, she had joined the naval cadets during her stay and been sponsored through the end of her degree. Originally joining to socialise and for cheap drinks, she ended up enlisting in the navy.
She served aboard several smaller ships in the engineering section before being transferred to a tactical post and was praised for her intelligence and aptitude with each post. However, she gathered a reputation for challenging the chain of command and stubbornly sticking to her views. She was transferred to the bridge of the Majesty, a Gunray class Star Destroyer. At just 28, with only 7 years service under her belt, she was named XO. When the Captain was promoted two years later, she took his place.
However, Irys was naïve for a Bothan. She often criticised the tactics used by her peers, finding them conservative and slow to react. She was politically out manoeuvred by her peers, who managed to blame several failed missions on her decisions. She found herself running patrols in the backwater end of CIS space. When the Majesty was brought in for a two year refit, she was placed in Military Acquisitions. Applying her keen intellect she is part of the driving force behind the FlaT-PACK Programme that aims to bring new mid-sized ships of the line into service. She has often out thought the suppliers and improved the project management of the later stages of delivery. The military personnel she has offended do not forget easily. For reasons unknown to her, the Majesty remains in dry-dock, and she is kept working behind the desk on the ground.
Her first significant skirmish was over the Vergesso asteroids. Despite overwhelming the Omega fleet, the ground forces were crippled by the Pyre and they were forced to withdraw.
Irys fought in several major fleet engagements for what eventually became the Techno Union. She fought in the assault of Naboo, giving the defensive forces a bloody nose by getting amongst their ponderous long ranged destroyers with a rapid assault fleet. Unfortunately the defensive stations were too powerful and she was forces to agree to the ceasefire and disengage
She fought twice against the Rebel Alliance over Geonisis. Both battles went in her favour, again using rapid manoeuvrers and significant fighter presence to keep the battlefield tempo above what the enemy could manage.
Her training exercise over Ord Mirit was brought to a sudden halt when a Republic fleet attacked. The joint One Sith/Techno Union fleet combined well. The advantage was swung in their favour when a mistimed micro-jump landed one of the Republic Star Destroyers right in the middle of a flanking force of heavy cruisers.
Long tours of duty on ship led to her finding love in one of her crew. What started as a relatively physical affair developed into a close bond over time.
Over Rothana her ship was crippled and raided by pirates. Stranded in the bowels of her own ship she was forced to hide from raiding parties. A rather obvious display of affection when she found her partner, Lieutenant Nikrun Stil'dor led to the rest of the bridge crew revealing they'd been aware of the relationship for months and didn't care. He once broached the subject of having children and one of them retiring from active duty. After being curtly informed that it would be him that retired to raise the children Nik decided not to bring the subject up again until he was willing to become a civilian again.
With the collapse of the Techno Union, Irys was part of a bothan carried out mercenary work with a small Bothan fleet. She took a short leave for maternity. There was a discussion between Irys and Nikrun about whether one of them would retire from the military to look after their two children. It was a brief discussion. Nikrun retired from the Bothan Navy and Irys returned to a fleet which was now being integrated into a fledgling Empire.
