Is creating a character as a love interest... pretentious?

In all of my idle daydreams of this character and his life (before this site I'd had this particular character in the back of my mind as a fantasy) there's always been a certain person that is able to catch his sociopathic third eye. Due to the changes I made to his backstory he's sort of already met that person in his biography but I gave the original Mandalorian female I had in mind a cameo in one of his earlier threads during a raid. I was just curious if creating this character for the sole purpose of being the Rita to Nicair's Dexter (thumbs up if you get the reference. Please?) would seem maybe a little sad. Just curious. Give your thoughts, give your thoughts for love.

I wouldn't say that it seems sad, but I don't see the need for her to have an entriely separate profile if the main intent is to be written as his love interest. For that you could just sub an NPC to the Codex depending on what you were planning with her(not absolutely necessary, but a good step if she ends up in PvP situations). On the other hand if you are creating the character as a love interest, but also looking to explore either her past or other expanded story opportunities, then yea I can see the character profile making sense. I prefer to do the romantic writing with another person, just due to finding it easier and in my opinion it seems more grounded since you don't control both characters in their entirety. When done well though, certainly can make for an interesting read.

Short answer, not my style personally, but if you want to give it a shot, more power to ya dude. And best of luck.

I did similar for a time, mostly because the character was designed to die soon enough. Knowing the backstory provided depth, I wasn't concerned.

So... Yes it is a bid pretentious. No, I kid.

It happens.

If you intend to write this character as an entity that is more than just a love interest it isn't pretentious at all to make them into a fully-fledged character associated with its own sub account and such. Otherwise you might as well just make an NPC and utilize them throughout RP (and I don't mean submit one to the codex, I just mean utilize them in RP).

I could make a new character... flesh out some of the details. It'd probably never be anything overtly romantic. No getting married, no kids, just playful banter, some adventures, killing to protect the other. The usual everyday common man/woman stuff.

I've written more than a few characters that have close relationships of one kind or another. My general rule of thumb is to keep most of their interactions offscreen, use them as occasional cameos/background NPCs in each other's threads, and otherwise just RP both characters with other people as normal.

This doesn't sound like a love interest at all, but more like a best friend that happens to be female...
