Is it me or has Gaming gotten old?

Gaming feels stale for some reason, No matter what the game is, it all feels unoriginal and it all feels boring now. Its like I want to get into Gaming and etc more but I cant becasue of the fact that it isnt the same as before. Some of my most fondest gaming memories come from Star Wars Galaxies, 2Moons/Dekaron, SWTOR, DCUO, Guild Wars, Guildwars 2 & the Diablo series as a whole. Those are the games i played and loved to death through my 20 years of gaming but the question now remains; Why is it boring now?

This could be only be but I find myself liking the idea more than the game. Lol good example of this is with Diablo 3. I login and play for about 15mins and then im done. Theres so much to do in the game but I see through it?

Idk I wanna hear from you guys about this topic or similar. Who else is experiencing the "Burn Out"?

IDK, ive been feeling the same thing. Maybe i just do not play the same stuff as others but i do still retain a considerable library of online games. I mean i dont play shooters which seems to be the only true heavy online experience anymore but still. It does seem the gaming community has on large gotten smaller.... if none of this is what you meant, then oh well :D

I haven't felt that, most of the games I play get to be fun and while some become stale others provide plenty to go back and keep play. I still jump on KotOR and Morrowind which gets some love. Or playing some fun shooters campaign. I might not always enjoy the multiplayer but COD campaigns are usually a good few hours to burn time and you'll be seeing a bunch of stuff. Games like Dragon Age... are hard cause Origins/Awakening are fine, 2 was boring and I rush through it and Inquisition is good but the final battle was slightly above Mass Effect 3's.. which that is another game I go back and play from the beginning.

Lol good find i did list all MMORPG's, those were the ones off the top of my head that made me smile in the moment I was making this thread.

I've played other genre's but I think for now Ill personally try a different hobby.

Played DCUO, SWTOR, and GW2... DC burned me out within two hours of playing it, I prefer Final Fantasy 14 over SWTOR (still playing it because I wanna level before October), and GW2 is amazing but gets repetitive after a bit when you can't do the different storylines because of being underleveled...

Been playing FFXIV-2 because leveling is pretty straightforward and there's a lot of ways to do it... Join the Final Fantasy dark side with me :p

Seriously, though, at least do the free trial. Fun game.

I like tinkering with servers when I get burnt out on games. I run into the same issues you listed in your original post. You're not alone, everyone gets burnt out or distracted easily, despite how dismissive some are getting. You're not old, you're not cranky.

I think you're just burnt out and whitewashing over every game you pick up. It's almost like that feeling of starting up a round of Diablo and you take a moment to pause and think "why did I even start this game up". I think it's because you're unfocused, distracted, and just burnt out.

Its a hard thing, to find a passion, but think about what really intrigues you and branch off into something more productive than playing games and then start researching it. For me, it was server administration. Or going to the gym. Or going out for drinks.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

The cure to all video game burnout is Skyrim.

Played the vanilla? Get the DLC packs! (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn)
Played the DLC? Download the major mod packs! (Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Elsweyr)
Played the land mods? Throw Frostfall's camping and survival mod into a new playthrough!
Played the game on Frostfall? Download as many hentai armor set and godmode item mods as you can possibly find and hope for the best.

But in all honesty, whenever I suffer a burnout of muse for a game, I either just download a new one, play a game I can enjoy with friends, or find or make new mods for games (i.e. Skyrim). I only really have that issue with RPGs and it seems that is the most common genre to wash out on, as they can be so similar and sometimes even so repetitive. Failing that, there's always F2P MMOs to dig through for osiks and giggles. Switch things up a little, while your muse takes a break.

Neverwinter is an MMO that plays out a lot like Diablo in some ways, I'd suggest checking that out if you haven't already. I'd complain about the lack of customization but I never remembered Diablo being especially popular in that department either.

[member="Krafurk Maris"] I think it's kind of natural to cycle. I picked up video games when I was maybe 6 or 7 and played really, REALLY steadily up until I was about 20. One day I realized I was getting bored super quick.

I forgot about games for a solid year or so, then randomly picked up The Last Of Us and BAM, my love was rekindled and I couldn't stop all over again.

Sometimes, just like anything else, we need a little break before the right moment or game reminds us of why we love the hobby so much. :)

Nantaris is right. It's called growing up.

When you get older your taste in things starts to narrow. All things, not just video games. Music, movies, books, hobbies.

You might think you'll be a fan of your favorite rock band from high school forever. Then one day you wake up 10 years later with a 9 to 5 job, a mortgage and a car payment, and realize you don't give a damn.

Sounds like you need a variance in the games that you happen to play.

But.....I do agree. For mmos.....its fairly basic and boring for me (for all of them, and yes I realize how many their are out there and the vast majority are the same) except for EVE. Eve seems to be the only odd man out. It actually allows players to participate in the game, more than just the group raids, or the small groups that go off and fight this NPC bad guy or that NPC bad guy. In Eve a player actually gets to PVP or PVE in the same world and have to deal with it (what a concept).

But either way, vary up the games that you choice to play. There are other genres and other games out there, and that's just on the same platform let alone on something different.

But don't listen to me....

This is why I love fighting games. There's always something there to get better at and such. But I feel the MMO genre is getting stale, but with Survival games like Ark and H1N1 they're branching into new and fun stuff. Still, try straying from what you usually play and try games that you wouldn't have touched. I was never a fan of one player action games, but I'm enjoying the Batman hype train <3

I pretty much just play xcom enemy within long war mod as I've burned myself out on everything else. I really suggest xcom long war mod for anyone looking for an actually challenging game
