One could only disengage so quickly from a hamburger assembly line on the day of the grand opening. Then again, Alec technically owned the joint, she'd served up innumerable meals in person, and so far as today went, she'd done her time. And this one brunette had stuck around, bantered the feth out of her, and sauntered into Alec's new office.
Some things, you just couldn't delegate.
But although Alec lacked the ability to shake her lopsided grin, something held her back at the door. Could it be the fact that [member="Allyson Locke"] had served as her grandfather's chief engineer and first mate? Or was it something else? Was Alec picking up some hint of well-buried reticence?

She opened the door, slipped in, and closed it behind herself.
