Is this what I am to become? (Dexen)

K1-LLR was asleep. FInally I could get a chance to see Ilum. Stepping out with my Jedi robes. Well what I called my Jedi robes. And with my saber hidden in the fold of my bracer on my right arm. I left the 578-R transport with no sounds. Even my boots that were known to make thunderous sounds of a growing sixteen year old, they made none. I moved my way out of the Ports, and sauntered my way into the city.

I wondered the City like a Cave man when he sees fire. Aw inspired and very wondrous of what created these buildings. Moving past people that were around my size or even taller than my alittle more than five and a half foot tall stance. Many things I had wondered along my travels. One of them was my skill with the lightsaber. I was really good with Shien, and the reverse grip form of it. but even though it was a good form, I wanted to protect myself more than ever.

I knew that I lacked in the force. Some may not think so, but it was true. That forced me to rely more on my footwork and lightsaber forms more than what was expected. I was even half tempted to carry around a gun of some kind that way I had another thing that I could use.

I walked on to possibly see if there were any Jedi here. I needed to find one badly. and one that could teach me a form that was considered to be the most defensive form of lightsaber combat. Soresu.

Flint enjoyed being in a cantina. He didn't enjoy the company of criminals that often inhabited cantinas. The Jedi Knight had responded to a call by local authorities in Ilum, there had been issues in regards local pirates lately in the settlements on Ilum. This particular cantina apparently, was a place where a particular pirate gang met often to get drunk, and do whatever pirates did. The laughters and other noises that had been present within the cantina instantly vanished the moment Flint entered. They seemed to have recognized him as a Jedi, probably his typical Jedi brown robe and light brown tunic gave that away. About a good dozen or so blaster rifles and pistols were pointed at him as Flint walked inside. Flint was far from afraid, however. As he recalled from the Jedi archives, one particular Jedi master from centuries ago admitted that a well-trained practitioner of Soresu was almost invincible against blasters.

Before the first shots could even be fired, Flint activated his cyan lightsaber and cut down the blasters of about seven pirates standing in a row. He then took a typical Soresu stance as he blocked the heavy blaster fire that followed from the pirates that still had their blasters intact. He focused on his motion and energy efficiency as he blocked away, after all, that was what Soresu was all about. Flint surged forward to cut down the rest of the remaining blasters, before using the Force to push the entire lot of pirates against the wall. Each one smashed into the wall and fell unconscious. After all, there was no need to kill, Flint reasoned. Not even the worst of the pirates.

The Jedi Knight deactivated his lightsaber, and seated himself down by the bar. He handed several credits to the bar owner, who was more than happy to get him a non-alcoholic drink. A small crowd of people had gathered outside the cantina, watching as the local police authorities arrested the defeated space pirates. After all, Flint thought as he drank his beverage, it probably wasn't everyday that they saw a random Jedi appear and defeat local pirates.

I walked for even longer and could see that people were going around having fun with friends, or even by themselves. I walked around a corner to see a man clearly dressed as a Jedi walk into the cantina. I was about to cross the street when lines of speeders zoomed by stopping my progress. I could hear none of what was happening across the street, but in seconds I could see flashing lights of police officers run into the place. Being a "Jedi" I thought that it would be my duty to help out.

Drawing my hilt from the bracer I ran across the street and when I got through the door, I could see a few of the police arresting what looked to be slightly drunk pirates, and bandits. But that was not surprised me. It was the man who I had seen earlier that was now sitting at the bar, and drinking something. I could not tell if it was some form of alcohol, or just water. I walked up next to him as I was putting my saber away now. There was no need for it to be out.

"Um Sir, were you the one who got those men?" I wanted to ask because there was a very large group of men here, and all of their blasters were in pieces on the ground. and some of them had knots on their head from being slammed? To have all of those blasters cut, and then all of the men down, he had to have some sort of defense that was higher than most.

"I mean, you have everything under control...." He was just sitting at the bar, and he was drinking something, so it was probably true.

"Um Sir, were you the one who got those men?"

Flint turned to face a young man standing right next to him. He drained what was left of his beverage, and set the cup down for the bar manager to clean before responding. "Yes I was." he said with a nod, observing the person before him. Something told Flint that this young man was not an average dweller in Illum. He seemed to seeking something, and probably it wasn't to buy Flint another drink. The young man was a local police officer either, but Flint was happy to answer questions. He wasn't in much of a rush to go right back to the Jedi Temple for another mission. After all, he had anticipated defeating the pirates to take a lot longer.

"I mean, you have everything under control...." "I'm glad you think so." Flint replied simply, with an appreciative smile. To Flint, it more so appeared that it was the local authorities now that had everything under control. Only thing he had done really was disarming the pirates and pushing them into a wall.

The man seemed to keep his words short and to the point. Unlike me who talked alot. The bartender was watching between the two of us and the police taking in the criminals. I moved myself to sit next to him, "I hope you don't mind, but I would like to ask how you did that?" I was pretty good. well I would say that I was pretty good. I don't know about others minds about how well they were with lightsaber combat. His glass was downed and empty, but the bartender filled him up again. He nodded at me, and I waved my hand to show that I didn't want anything.

(sorry drawing a blank on what to type lol)

"I do not mind at all." Flint responded. He had a fairly good guess on what this young man was trying to ask him. It was a more complex question that it probably was intended to be. How did Flint defeat the pirates? The Force? Swinging around a lightsaber? Flint hesitated for a few seconds before responding. He would give the young man a more detailed answer than he probably was expecting.

"Lightsaber combat form III, some call it the Way of the Mynock. Others call it the Resilience Form. I simply go by its classical given name, Soresu." Flint replied, giving the bar tender a grateful nod as his beverage was refilled. "Tell me... you don't live around here, do you? Who are you?" he asked politely.

The man started to say that he didn't mind that I was asking him questions. And partly since I was just a teenager. it was expected that I would ask alot of questions. He continued to talk and say that he was using form III. He then said "The Way of the Mynock" and it clicked in my head that I had heard it before. and when he said Soresu, My eyes widened. I wanted to learn the form because it was known for a very high defense. I was trying to be nice and let him continue before I spoke. His questions I would have to answer first.

"No, I travel around. I don't really have a Home at the current moment. and the name is Xander Carrick." I offered my hand and nodded to him. "So since you have learned this Soresu, that means you are a Jedi?" Just because you were dressed like one, does not mean that you are one. And with how I have seen a few other Jedi act as though they are not, I would only ever know if I asked.

Flint gave a friendly smile as he shook the teenager's hand. The teenager introduced himself as Xander. "Nice to meet you, Xander. My name is Flint Dexen." he introduced himself dutifully before Xander could speak much further. Xander was no ordinary teenager, Flint believed. His suspicion was confirmed a second later when Xander inquired if Flint was truly a Jedi since he knew Soresu. Flint found this question quite thought-provoking.

"Good question." Flint said, and took out his lightsaber hilt and observed it for a few seconds. "I do consider myself a Jedi Knight, yes. But it is not truly up to me to determine if I am really the Jedi that I often deem myself to be." he informed. "I utilize Soresu because it matches my... non-aggressive philosophy in regards to combat. I believe that the best defense is usually the best offense, and I don't think a Jedi should take offensive actions unless a dire situation calls for such actions." Flint stopped talking for a few seconds, then looked at Xander in the eye. "What do you think? Do you deem me to be a Jedi?" he inquired.

The man introduced himself as Flint Dexen. I shook hands with him and he took a gander to my question. Splaying his thoughts of being a Jedi, and also say that they prefered his use of defense and not being on the offence all the time. and I had to agree with him. There was a time and a place for causing pain to someone. Even though I was an impulsive teen, I understood the importance of keeping people alive for a reason. Defense first attack second. But only a few seconds after that he asked if I thought about him as a Jedi.

My face changed from a smile to that of one pondering what the title of "Jedi" was. I then looked up at Flint. "There are many titles of Jedi. One is the official title that the Jedi of the Order have. then there is the Jedi who claim they are because of their values. To me, a Jedi is someone who is willing to stand up against the oppressors of the Galaxy, people who are willing to put their neck on the line for the guilty and innocent alike. yet, they do not kill just because they have the tools and abilities to do so. I believe -no I know that Jedi are the people who will fight for all freedoms and rights of the people."

Flint smirked slightly at the young man's remarks in regards to Jedi. What Xander said were all quite true, and Flint was rather enjoying his talk with the teenager. It was rather interesting that Xander seemed to know so much about th Jedi.

"What you've said is the truth. I am proud to uphold my Jedi values." Flint said in response. He downed what remained of the beverage, motioning at the bar tender that there was no need to refill his drink. He then turned to fully face Xander. Flint paused for a few seconds before speaking. "Allow me to ask you a question if you don't mind, Xander. Do you fight for 'all freedoms and rights of the people'?" he asked simply. It was his way of asking, are you a Jedi as well?

The man acted as though he enjoyed my little rendition of what a Jedi was. He then asked me after finishing off his drink, if I was a person who fought for those freedoms. I nodded my head as soon as his question ended. "Yes, I fight for those who cannot. well I want to at least." Really I had not had much time with fighting for the others. I had been trying to find a place where I could belong and train so I could fight off the oppressors. and with this man asking me, I believed that I had a way to learn.

Flint stared at the teenager curiously. He didn't reconize Xander from the Jedi Temple, but it wasn't like as if Flint would recognize any other padawan. He only knew a handful number of Jedi, those that have fought with him or had been his peers during his time as an apprentice. Perhaps Xander would join his acquaintance list.

Somewhat abrutly, Flint stood up and handed the bar tender a few credits as a tip. "Follow me." Flint said, turning to Xander as he began walking out of the cantina. Hopefully Xander followed him, literally, and not on some Holonet social network. Its not like Flint was part of a social network on Holonet anyways. "I'm guessing you must be a fellow Jedi, Xander?" he inquired to the teen as they moved past the police authorities. Flint estimated Xander was an apprentice, judging by his age and appearence. If that was the case, Flint had some more questions that he wanted to ask.

The jedi had thrown some credits down to the man at the bar, and then told me to follow him. Putting my saber back into my sleeve in a more secure position, I walked out with him past the police and out into the streets again. His question came up, even though he couldn't see me, I shook my head. "Not really. I was trained in the Jedi way, but I am not an official Jedi. I have not been given the name. Though I only consider myself one, because of the morals that I was taught to respect and uphold."

I didn't know if that would change the outlook of the man's thoughts about me. But maybe he could teach me and somehow put my name into the Republic and work with them. I was fine with the Jedi, but because of all the politics that they had, I was reluctant to join. ANd apprentices were held as someone that had almost no word. to be seen and not heard, as they say. I wanted a place where my word carried some weight. Even a small amount would be nice.
