ISI/BCP: "Battle Coordination Package." Specialty transmitters allowed a Myrmidon to synchronize directly with up to three additional Myrmidon-series battle droids, coordinating their tactics and increasing their efficacy in battle.
ISI/ACM: "Advanced Cognitive Module." A series of minor component upgrades to the Myrmidon's droid brain. Gabonna Crystal processors and xylen memory banks - both synthetically derived - dramatically increased the droid's reaction speed and intellect, giving it an edge in combat and the ability to think dynamically.
ISI/ALA: "Advanced Layered Armor." An upgraded version of the armor system employed by the Centurion-series. This variant employed a trimantium-hexalloy composite and high-quality armorweave. The result could turn away blaster bolts, vibroweapons, ballistics, and even lightsabers.
ISI/HSS: "Hydraulic Servoprocessor System." A complex system of hydraulic servoprocessors coordinated by a gyroscopic stabilizer. It granted the Myrmidon a high degree of strength, coordination, and responsiveness, but was slightly more expensive than similar systems.
ISI/CILP: "Cold Iron Learning Package." A highly adaptive programming package produced by Iron Sun Intelligence. The version utilized by the Myrmidon was a library assembled from the tactics and training of the Thyrsian Sun Guard, as well as carefully curated flash-memories from veterans of the Golden Company. It also carried rudimentary protocol and leadership routines, allowing the droid to take on varied responsibilities.
[ + ] Imperial Bulwark: The Myrmidon served as an elite protection unit, adept particularly with melee weapons. It exhibited remarkable strength, speed, resilience, and intelligence, putting on on par with advanced assassin droids.
[ + ] All Together Now: The Myrmidon utilized specialized co-processors to synchronize with up to three additional units, dramatically increasing their effectiveness in combat.
[ - ] Inside Droid: The Myrmidon was designed for protection, not for prolonged deployments. It was not well-insulated from the elements and experienced impaired performance in hostile environments or extreme weather.
The Imperial Combat Droid Mk. II, also known as the Myrmidon-series, was the second droid model released by Iron Sun Intelligence. Antipater, the company's founder, designed the droid with three guiding principles:
Vigilant: The Myrmidon needed to be quick-thinking, reactive, and extremely aware of its surroundings in order to anticipate and disarm threats.
Durable: The Myrmidon needed to be heavily armored and quite resilient in order to endure a variety of combat threats, but particularly those that entered into close range.
Dynamic: The Myrmidon needed to be able to serve as more than a bodyguard: it needed to be an indispensable lieutenant.
The Myrmidon was Iron Sun Intelligence's answer to the likes of the MagnaGuard, but with the expanded capability to act as overseers and commanders.
By 900 ABY, officials from Imperial holdouts would often find themselves beset by any number of traitorous plots. Such schemes often involved the minions closest to them: servants, assistants, officers, and even bodyguards. The Myrmidon was developed to offer peerless protection and absolute trust through programmed loyalty.
High-quality droid components gave the Myrmidon lightning-fast reflexes, which allowed them to detect and thwart immediate threats to their charge. Sophisticated combat algorithms derived from veterans of the infamous Sun Guard meant the Myrmidon could pacify certain Jedi, Sith, and other foes with a preference for melee combat. They were particularly adept unarmed or with electrostaves, but could make use of almost any conventional weapon,
Grouping Myrmidons in fireteams of four allowed them to synchronize, forming a limited hivemind that fought with perfect coordination. Aside from dramatically improving their combined effectiveness in combat, it encouraged customers to purchase Myrmidons in groups of four.
Myrmidons were prone to developing emergent "personalities." The primary trend was a fascination with emulating the ethos and discipline of the Thyrsian Sun Guard. Units were observed to adopt the Thyrsian solar religion, quoting prophecies, undertaking prayer, and appearing to contemplate the nearest sun when it was visible. Many customers refrained from memory-wiping their droids as it led them to becoming more zealous in their duties.
Still: any misadventures or malfunctions which resulted from the emergent "personality" were not covered by Iron Sun Intelligence's warranty agreements. Customers were advised to memory-wipe their combat droids with regularity.
