OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Age: Young Adult
  • Force Sensitivity: Knight
  • Species: Human
  • Ethnicity: Essonian
  • Appearance: A beautiful young woman with a fair complexion, blue-gray eyes, and straight brown hair that reaches just past her shoulders. In combat she wears golden armor with a red and gold-embroidered cape.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Isolda of Ession
  • Loyalties: Ashlan Crusade | Her family | Starlin Rand and his associates
  • Connections:
    • Lady Ilena (grandmother)
  • Wealth: Low; While Isolda is from a noble Essionian family, any fortune or significant property they possessed was lost during the Cleansing of Ession. She is taken care of by her Order, and receives a modest salary, though she sends much of it to help support her elderly grandmother, who is the last surviving member of her family besides herself.
  • Notable Possessions:
  • Skills: Isolda is a Jedi Knight who has trained for years in the use of the Light Side. Her training focused on combat, giving her an edge in lightsaber fights with multiple opponents or in the one-on-one conflict of dueling. Due to her specialization in martial arts, she would be classified as a Jedi Guardian. As for her use of the Force, she typically relies on it for defense, utilizing abilities such as Force barrier, Force body, and Force valor, as well as techniques to reduce pain. Interestingly, she also possesses a talent for malacia.
  • Personality:
    • Isolda is an Essonian. Culturally, they are devout followers of the Ashlan faith. The Ashla is their goddess personification of the Light Side. While many of their beliefs are rooted in Jedi doctrines, they differ from the Jedi in that they do not believe the Force is split into two sides, Light and Dark. Rather, the Force is nothing but the Light, and without interference from sentient beings, the Dark Side would not exist. Sentient meddling with nature and the Force results in Dark Side corruption, the personification of which the Ashlans refer to as the Bogan. The Bogan is a hateful thing brought into being by greed, selfishness, and other forms of evil.
    • Naturally, with such black and white beliefs as these, it is easy for the Ashlans to justify their militant mindset. They are convinced that the Dark Side is throwing not only reality but the afterlife into chaos, and if something is not done to cull the corruption of the Bogan, then all of existence will become hellish. Isolda is no different from the typical Ashlan in her views. She is determined to fight the forces of the Bogan, staving off the tide of the Dark Side until her last breath.
    • Isolda is also young and, while not totally inexperienced, rather naïve. Her upbringing consisted mainly of training, training, and more training. While hardly joyless, it could be said that she doesn't know how to have fun. She received a well-rounded education, but was restricted in what she was allowed to read, watch, or listen to; thus, she is unfamiliar with pop culture and largely unaware of trends. If you push her on the subject, she will tell you these things are meaningless vanities that don't matter anyway, so why should she care?
    • Socially, Isolda can come across as somewhat aloof. She is a "nice girl", kind and polite to others, but she is often at a loss when it comes to casual social situations. At times it can seem like she came from a different galaxy, her upbringing and perspective are so radically different from the galactic "norm". She is obviously biased against Sith/Dark Siders of any kind, but finds it difficult to relate to those outside the Ashlan faith or her cultural group. If she thinks a person could be a potential convert to her religion, she will attempt to proselytize to them, which they may find annoying. She is also largely oblivious to how others perceive her, though again, she would say that it does not matter what others think of her.
    • While she is physically attractive by most common standards of beauty, Isolda rarely attempts to use her good looks as an asset, and she isn't easily affected by the superficial appearances of others. In fact, she finds the idea of being swayed by a pretty (or ugly) face rather hilarious. She dresses simply (though her armor is intentionally gorgeous, this is for ritualistic purposes; she considers fighting for the Ashla a religious act that should be carried out in a manner pleasing to the goddess) and does not wear cosmetics, style her hair or alter her appearance in any way beyond the basics of proper hygiene and personal maintenance. She wears small, unobtrusive gold studs in her ears (a family heirloom that once belonged to her mother) but no other jewelry. As a child she was a tomboy who preferred to run around outside rather than play with dolls. As an adult, she enjoys hiking, camping, and other outdoorsy activities, and has no problem getting her hands dirty.
    • Isolda is loyal to her family primarily out of a sense of duty and honor. She knows her grandmother is a schemer, and tries to steer clear of her web of intrigue.
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Weapon of Choice: Lightsaber
  • Combat Function: In combat Isolda is a whirlwind, constantly moving. While not particularly strong, she is flexible and agile, does not tire easily, and possesses the grace of a dancer.
Strengths:
  • Holy Warrior: Isolda is an Ashlan Crusader, a true believer in their faith and a noble knight trained to fight the forces of the Dark Side.
  • Pure of Heart: Isolda is strong in her convictions and not easily swayed, even by those with the power to change minds by force.
Weaknesses:
  • But Not Through My Realm: Isolda has a blind spot when it comes to Force Users that specialize in, well, the Force. A Consular or Sorcerer could overwhelm her defenses.
  • Fly Casual?: Isolda cannot pilot a starship. She is also a rather poor airspeeder driver. Generally speaking, it is a bad idea to put her behind the controls of any vehicle.
  • Practical Skills: Isolda lacks technical knowledge of computers and other machinery. She cannot repair a droid or slice a computer, and she avoids using technology in general, including combat gear. Her refusal to use a comlink or similar device has led to a lack of communications in battle, though she will use the Force (telepathy and "feelings") to compensate in most situations.
  • Hear No Evil, See No Evil: If it comes down to choosing between her loyalty to her people and faction, and the lives of her friends... she'll pick Ession and the Crusade, regardless of the context or stakes.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

sf7NvDn.png

"Her name was Isolda, and her face haunted his dreams. She was one of the first troops to get off the transport, her gold boots crunching Korriban dust beneath her heels. Hefting a lightsaber with a silvery blade, she didn’t turn back to look at him as she leaped into the fray, a whirling dervish of a woman warrior. He tried not to get too distracted by the sun reflecting off her armor." - Starlin Rand
Isolda was born to a noble Essonian family. Her parents and most of her family were killed during the Cleansing of Ession; she and her grandmother Lady Ilena were barely able to escape the planet prior to its destruction. Though they had survived the death of their world, the family was ruined financially and left to the miserable life of refugees.

Ilena's savvy machinations helped them to claw their way back to relative stability. As her granddaughter grew up, she began seeking a means of independently supporting herself. Isolda became embroiled in the budding Ashlan Crusade, joining one of their Knightly Orders and battling the Sith Empire for control of the Tingel Arm.

It was there that she met Starlin Rand, a young Jedi who was briefly apprenticed to Cedric Grayson. While he would eventually depart from the Crusade, he still sought to maintain contact with Isolda. Clearly he has taken an interest in her. Isolda has been receptive to his attempts at staying in touch, and even sometimes joins him on special missions or to accomplish certain tasks. But Isolda does have another goal in mind: converting Starlin to the Ashlan faith.

Under Review Starlin Rand Starlin Rand

A very nicely laid-out submission over all, and I think reasonably balanced. I just have one note:

  • In the Weaknesses section, it seems to me that "See No Evil, Hear No Evil" isn't really a weakness. In what way does an "ends justify the means" attitude disadvantage Isolda herself? She won't be evil, but doesn't feel she has to challenge it if it serves a good cause - that sounds more like a strength, something that makes life easier for her. It would be much more of a weakness if she couldn't let evil acts that still help her cause pass unchallenged, the typical Lawful Good Paladin dilemma. I'd consider reevaluating this, especially given that a strength of hers is being strong in her convictions.

Being willing to ignore the Crusade's bad deeds in service to a good cause is more a character flaw than an actionable weakness.

I consulted with the other judges, and they agree that this is still not an actionable weakness. Actionable weaknesses are weakness that might apply to a PVP scenario, something that balances a submission's strengths when facing other writers. Are they good with lightsabers but poor with hand to hand? Do they have an allergy to peanut oil? Sensitivity to sound?

One way to make what you've written actionable would be to turn it so that she can be manipulated by those who appeal to her lofty goals, getting her to ignore or tacitly approve of evil acts they are doing. That makes the weakness something other writers can work with, rather than just generating possible conflict between your PC and your NPC. Not the only way, just a possible suggestion.

That said, it could worth noting in her Personality section that she may conflict with Starlin over means vs. ends.
