It Falls on the Family

Day broke over the waters that surrounded Eiattu's capital city. There was a light mist that hung low in the air on this particular morning, causing the rays of ultraviolet light to show in a prismatic array of color. Alden looked out over the ocean, its rolling seas something he had come to truly appreciate since his return home. Since his reunion with his brother, Cameron Akaran. The large glass panes opened up over the city and to the ocean beyond. A breathtaking view to be certain.
A well groomed, and obviously proud man with a measuring tape, carried about his duties in measuring Alden’s build for the piecing together of a future attire that Alden truly had little interest in, yet the Priamsta demanded it. Decreed that there are some customs that can not be simply thrown to the wind. Having a Royal garb was among those he could not change. He never wanted to be king to begin with, yet he held no say in that regard either. But even so, growing into the King he was now, he had begun to take to it. Much more so than he’d ever thought he would. Perhaps it was his fiancee, Faye Malvern, that helped him grow into that position. Or even her not so discreet brother, Adron Malvern Adron Malvern , in his push to mold Alden into a certain kind of man. Perhaps even the support of his brother, Cameron, that helped him to embrace the change.
In recent months, there had been a lot of that. Alden had stepped away from the Confederate Defense Force as a High Marshal within its ranks to better focus his attention to his duties here. And to his soon to be wife with the wedding all but a few weeks away. And now he’d been appointed as a deputy to the position of the Confederacy’s Minister of War. And that appointment is what directed Alden to call on his brother now.

Cameron let out a deep yawn, running a hand through his hair as he moved through the hall of the palace. Cameron wasn't like his brother, Alden, well not in a lot of ways. Where Alden was dutiful and militant Cameron was carefree and relaxed. He was the kind of man who preferred to let things happen rather than make things happen. That did not speak for his aptitude however. Cameron was a brilliant strategist in his own rights and a skilled politician, he just never had much in the realm of willpower to utilize it.

He was wearing a simple pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt when he rounded into the room where his brother had summoned him to. The man glanced up to see his brother was preparing to be fitted for some new outfit or another. Cameron smirked, chuckling a bit as he spoke out. "I bet whatever they're making you is going to be very pretty. Ruffles, they love ruffles." He said, shaking his finger at his brother jokingly before walking over to take a seat in one of the chairs at the corner of the room.

Cam turned his eyes towards the window where the beach could be seen, even from where he sat. He looked at the sight and smirked before leaning back to throw a leg over the arm of the chair. "We should go to the beach man, relax. You've spent like every day dealing with some mess The Confederacy has gotten in, you gotta relax too. Most men getting ready to be married would be worrying about a honeymoon or something. Not that I'd know." He smirked.

"What did you need, man?" He asked Alden.

The tailor continued his measurements of Alden’s figure. Whatever this was that they were going to be putting together for him, he sure hoped it would all be worth it. There was no telling what was going through the man’s mind and what he envisioned for the piece, but it was certainly something the Priamsta thought was essential to Alden successfully filling his role. Just how did Cameron get to be so lucky as to not have dawn the crown on his head and instead get to live at least the semblance of a normal life. In that, Alden envied his brother.

But that was beside the point. Today was a different matter and one he knew in his heart and soul that Cameron would not like when it would be requested of him.

“We’ll certainly see about that,” Alden said in response to his brother’s jest regarding the tailor making his measurements. “They never told us when we were growing up, we’d have to dress so,” he paused trying to find the right wording so as to not offend, “proper.” He let out a brief chuckle, casting a short glance to where Cameron had taken a seat.

“Please look forward, your highness,” came the words of the tailor. He was a man likely in his late 50s or even 60s and a salt and pepper beard blanketed his face. It was shorter and well kept. Like seemingly everyone that stepped foot in the Royal Palace. Everyone was always clean cut and dressed to the nines so to speak. It was something Alden was still growing accustomed to. That and that it seemed he rarely could be trusted to dress himself when he was home on Eiattu. Even if he tried to usher the attendants away so he could do things on his own, it would more often than not be brought up later. Some member here or there of the Priamsta informing him that it was tradition and was to be upheld.

Alden turned his head back forward, allowing his gaze to once again venture out to the horizon where the sun’s rays met the endless tides of the ocean.

“As much as I’d love that, it seems there are no holes in my schedule for today. It’s,” he paused, “well, this. Followed by meetings with the Priamsta. The joy.” There was sarcasm to his tone this time as he tried to at least make some light of the situation. After all, he’d need Cameron to be in at least slightly heightened spirits before he sullied them with his later request.

He breathed deeply and spoke once more to Cameron. “What do you see for Eiattu, Cam? What is your vision for its future? For the future of its people amid the rest of the Confederacy?”
