Public It's a new day! Yes it is!

Faith is the heroism of the intellect.
No, you can't order bacon... or griddlecakes... or egg toast, you couldn't before you can't now.

Standing over the group of younglings with his arms crossed, Caltin watched each and every one of them whine and pout with absolutely no sympathy for them. Now someone walking in might wonder if he was being mean, after all look at him! He's huge and menacing! It wouldn't be a huge mistake for anyone to assume the worst, especially walking in around this time, there were kids actually starting to whimper and almost cry at this point. This is the sort of scene that makes the massive Jedi Master look heartless. However anyone who knows him knows that he is anything but, especially since they were in Tom's and the owner of the place would throw him out of the scene proved to be true, Jedi Master or not.

The scene is not true...

"Master Vanagor? Why? We're hungry! Please?!"

Shaking his head and tightening his folded arms over each other, he looked back at Adneal, the one who spoke up. The one who was most vocal about what brought them here and is the reason they are all about to eat a breakfast that not one of them wanted. Everyone in this little group of younglings wanted to exercise not only like Master Vanagor, but with him as well. While this was incredibly endearing to him, he wanted to teach them responsibility as well as this wasn't going to be just fun, it was going to teach them about how to like like he does. He even offered them a chance to have their own little program and eat the way they wanted to.

Some of them actually took to the idea and decided to wait for him to set them up with such a program but Adneal talked this group of twenty into talking Caltin into letting them learn. Again he told them it wasn't a good idea and that they did not know what they were getting into, even telling them he wouldn't coddle them or allow another to swoop in and get them out of this deal like he had in the past. He only said this because Adneal was one of those who were “saved”. They wanted it and they wanted everything that came with it, just like before claiming they were ready this time, they assured him. So here we are, the realization that he was indeed not going to coddle them was a truth and they were stuck eating fruit and oatmeal, just like before. "This isn't fair."

Stoic, the big man just stood there over them, wanting to chuckle, but standing firm. He knew that they were not ready for his workout. That does not mean he will not let them reap the rewards of their determination and get a program that was "advanced".

'What a BIG MEANIE!' the Jedi Knight thought. 'Somebody has to teach the kiddies how to break the rules Jedi style.' Tempest focused her concentration to the grilling station behind the counter. Telekinetically she raised the lid to the waffle iron as the short order cook focused on his current lot of orders, Oatmeal and fruit cups. Using the power of her mind from across the room, she mentally lifted the tub of pre-mixed batter and poured a portion into the bottom of the preheated waffle iron. Her smile broadened when she spotted the small plastic bowl of blueberries which just happened to sit right above the cook's head. A crack to her knuckles and her shoulders arched, her eyes narrowed to control the task. A little Illusion to conceal her actions taking place right before the cook's eyes, and....

'One. Two. Four. Eight. Thirteen...' they were lifted in groups. Then....

The batter she had poured into the waffle iron had begun to burn, and the smoke reached the fire alarm. "FUDGE!" she exclaimed as the cook took note and cursed when he spotted the waffle maker. She watched him as he scratched his head, likely wondering how he had been so forgetful as to not close the lid and flip the griddle. Tempest abruptly sat back in her chair and glanced around the room to see if her actions were noticed by anyone. Only one table of younglings were turning their heads back and forth between Tempest and the kitchen. She smirked in return, pressing her finger lightly to her lips, while lowering her head, and resting it on her interlaced fingers with elbows rested upon the table.

This Hero Grandmaster didn't get so big and strong skipping balanced meals. Pumping oatmeal and fruit into a bunch of younglings will just cut their training short when they all begin to experience an overactive tummy! The Knight smirked thinking how that might be exactly the break from the lot of them that Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor desires!

You may think that I am being “mean” right now, and that is your right to. However, you will find that there is a plan to each and every lesson that you learn. It may not seem so now, but should you stick with my program, you will understand what you have learned here.

He smelled the batter, he knew that Tempest Yore Tempest Yore was there as well and while he had no proof, Caltin knew what was going on. So he did not press the matter. It was clear that, again, these younglings were not going to be held accountable but hopefully this time they will have learned their lesson. Tightening the fold in his arms and letting out a sigh, the massive Jedi Master nodded towards the door.

We will continue this tomorrow. I will have a training regimen for you younglings prepared, but it will not be “my” workout.

This brought out a couple of whines and whimpers.

Or I could teach you nothing at all…

Stunned silence.

So, as I was saying, we will meet tomorrow and get you started on something more suited to your age. Now feel free and grab the waffles that were made for you and head out.

He did not want to berate them or anything, they were just kids, but this was all a part of the lesson that they were learning about sticking to their word. As many of them got up and eagerly grabbed the waffles provided and ran out, just happy to be away from the oatmeal, some of them actually apologized. Those who did stood in front of him in a group.

That is okay. I want you to be better, we will just come up with a better way.

It wasn’t always fun to do this, but there were too many times in his past where younglings tried to learn the big man’s workout routine. Even if they couldn’t handle it yet.

Go on, get out of here.

Standing stoically as he watched the last of the younglings leave the diner, Caltin was pretty certain that it was he and the Knight in the dining room. Without looking her way, he simply spoke.

You stay.

"You stay," the Grandmaster said without turning.

'Ouch!' she thought as her face retorted to a comical expression, for show to the last of the little faces who seemed sympathetic with her predicament among the younglings as they all filed into two lines, snatching up burnt waffles, peeping at her as they trotted by on their merry way.

Master Syn Syn was her long standing Father figure and trainer from the start of her official training. He always laughed at finding her a girly girl to the last, in frilly white dresses and painted nails. He even went so far as to gift her non-staining robes. He taught her to fight all sorts of monsters, those in the fields, and master many living only within her mind. In all honesty with herself, she is fully aware that she just doesn't fathom the full extent of the Jedi Oath she took during her Knighthood not long ago. At times she has done what she could to assist others, to the extent of offering everything she had, and at other times lived in luxury. For instance, when the Chiss were near annihilated by the Brotherhood of the Maw, Tempest offered the proceeds from the sale of her yacht to home refugees; but when the new owner of her ship went around in her old ship in shady circles, so much that she fell suspect of their doings, Tempest stole back her ship and hasn't sold it again to this day.

She was told by Syn to come here to spend some time with the Battlemaster Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor , for her own benefit. Maybe he could help her wrap her head around her destiny, maybe just understand the true value of her gifts by being around other Jedi, to rededicate her life, instead of being a loner out in the galaxy. She needs to realize her strengths to pick a focus study, Consular, Sentinel, or Guardian. Maybe she was side tracked from the true path when she had been picked up by the Ashlan Crusaders and developed a hefty school girl crush on Cedric Grayson. She never really got to be a kid long enough when she should have, and growing up sure as hell isn't easy for a young lady on any life path.

"Tempest Yore, Grandmaster," she said as she stood and curtseyed respectfully, from even behind his back. She had never met him before now, and most certainly she felt nervous regarding this moment.

I am well aware.

No, they had never met, but Vanagor made it his business to know at least something about the Jedi around him nowadays. Not any trust (or lack of trust) issues, but it was disrespectful of him (in his eyes) not to. She was a girly girl, a free spirit and one that had a good heart. She had the qualities every Jedi should want but the discipline every Jedi should cringe at. Still standing quietly looking out at those younglings who thought it was prudent of them to intrude on the conversation he was about to have, Caltin simply curled an eyebrow at them and they ran off giggling.

No need to be nervous, I always look like this.

A little self-deprecating humor never hurt anyone.

I must ask you though… the waffles…

His gaze turned her way in a manner that would make a Krayt Dragon pause. His glare was held for several moments.

Why so much batter on the waffles? That is why they burn so easily.

A call back to his ongoing holovid “Cooking with Caltin”.

The problem with burned waffles is the burnt taste lingers in the air.

Arms folded, he was now standing in front of the poor girl, practically standing over her.

If you are going to prank another Jedi, at least do it right.

Wait, what? Is there a smirk curling up his lip?

'Wow...he's cool!' she thought, arcing her neck back to look up at the underside of his meat-and-potato-built muscular chin. He knows about her too! 'Shucks.'

"Uh-huh.." she uttered rather timidly after he told her not to be intimidated by his appearance. Syn used to handle her like a little sack of flour, scoop her up, toss her in the air, carry her around....like a little insect. Boy did she always cringe at that....along with those real giant insects he always found for her to face off.

The glare the Grandmaster gave her next about her insolence regarding making the waffles after he had told the younglings that they could not have any, well she near fell over backwards. Luckily she caught her elbow upon the table and stood herself back upright, fully recovering her stance....all but her whits. "Well... I..." she stammered, "I never had the luxury of... owning a... a... wa-waffle... maker, Grandmaster." His fame as Galactic Iron Chef eluded her awareness. "Also, I've only ever cooked for myself..." It's true, she had no idea she couldn't just make one great big gigantic waffle in the thing, one which everyone could share.

The disappointment of the Grandmaster in her already was totally apparent. She hopes this is all he won't like about her, but on the other hand, if he is disappointed in her for something so trivial... 'How is he going to be all the more disappointed in the hard stuff!' He hasn't seen anything yet. Grandmaster Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor mentioned his distaste for the pungent smell she created, and Tempest's eyes widened and her mouth dropped in shame. She does not know how to clear the air like he wants! She knows it is a skill that can be done though! 'If he were shorter...he wouldn't have to breathe in all that smoke!' "Sorry. It's really not so bad down here, closer to the floor, Grandmaster."

Then she detected his gruff attempt at jocularity, and Tempest suddenly smiled in return. She felt a wave of relief wash over her. Many of these older powerful men can be rather stoic, and confusing to figure out how to engage. Then she felt eager about why she came in the first place. Tempest waggled a brow at the mountain of a man, her countenance more serious than a moment before. "I am grateful for your time and consideration, and up for whatever you are open to teach me, Grandmaster." She figures, it truly could begin with how to cook a proper waffle. Jedi Masters are pretty mysterious!

In a matter of a second, Caltin’s expression changed drastically. This conversation was supposed to be about him gently explaining to her that undermining one of his training sessions was not only disrespectful, but doesn’t exactly endear her to him, especially if they had never met. He was not mad at her at all (this was not the first, even third or fourth time another Jedi had “rescued” the younglings whom he was trying to teach a different lesson to), but she needed to understand that with him, things were never “light and dark”.

Now, somehow it morphed into a training session?

What in the blue frell?

Who shot who in the what now? I was not aware I was assigned a Knight to train in something.

It doesn’t work that way, he was just being… “Caltin”. He was also genuinely confused.

Did I miss something?

Tempest found Jedi Masters to be a dime a dozen, in that they are honorable, respectable men, with good personality which she met. Few believe unanswerable differences in the explanation of the Force, and this divides them greatly. Regardless of these, she found their responsibility to train their youth, rooted in their core. Everyone could die tomorrow, and their skills are not to go to the grave with them. Even Tempest has taught the younglings.

She laced her fingers in front of her, batted her eye lashes and swayed where she stood. "Pleeeeeeeease?" she asked sweetly, smiled, locked eyes with the Grandmaster Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor , and she froze for a brief moment.

Tempest's brows raised as she then eyed the student roster which rested upon a tabletop. Had she spotted it earlier and typed her name into a time slot?

Yep!

She giddily looked to the Grandmaster again from the roster, to the roster from he, over and over, hoping he'd get the point to look for himself, showing all teeth now. She doesn't break all the rules.

"I can't be as difficult to manage as a gaggle of younglings, I promise." If he needs his ego stroked, she could tell him that she knows this is a chance of a lifetime and she will carve his every lesson into rock to be left behind for all future generations to worship... she could!

Tempest had it half right. Jedi Masters of “today” are a dime a dozen. No shame on any of them, but it is an honest statement. There are three unique Jedi Masters out there, maybe four, even five but they are inactive for the moment. The three that could be counted differently were “The Sword of the Jedi”, the honorable but dangerous Valery Noble Valery Noble , another is the enigma that is Ala Quin Ala Quin , the other was standing right in front of her.

Ticked off now.

He would not scream, no point. He would not holler, again. He would not use “language” ; it would ruin his point. What he would do was give it to her straight.

This sort of flowery language and flirtatious salaciousness probably worked with your Master. Trying to use it on and around me will get you nothing.

Then for some reason she put her name down on the sign-in sheet. That was a mistake that she will live to regret, at least ego-wise. Caltin could not believe that she was able to use this type of behavior as a Jedi Knight. Does that achievement not mean anything anymore?

Did you really think that batting your eyes would get you anything? You are a Jedi Knight. You are supposed to be “better”... it insults your intelligence, and frankly ticks me off that you believed this approach of yours would get you anywhere. However, since you put your name on a roster, fine. I will teach you. The younglings are supposed to be back here tomorrow morning at 0600, since you are now counting yourself with them. You are to be here too. So show up, fresh, and ready for a workout you have never experienced.

She's going to learn something alright. It just might not be what she wants.

Flattery had always gotten her everything she ever wanted. As a young woman, flattery, and a Jedi Knight, she could become the nightmare dressed like a daydream to many a drooling young man! Yup, it does! But the notion to be something more than as she happens to be, well that is just...

'Why?' Life can be short for a Jedi, and also it can be very, very long. Women somewhere are having these touched younglings. Why should Tempest have to behave just like every other Jedi woman? It shouldn't matter to any man, but the one she chooses, if she chooses one at all. She found his outdated opinions regarding her feminine behavior an 'Overstep!' She just gazed back at him, knowing that to say so aloud would be like arguing with the elder monks! He'd probably have her begin copying the Jedi Path by hand word for word, and memorize each entire scripture!

Tempest's eyes glazed over sometime halfway during Grandmaster Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor 's much longer emo outburst. He gave her flashbacks to when Master Syn Syn flaunted his masculine muscles and killed entire colonies of giant insects, which was always and everywhere he took her. She wondered from time to time if maybe one of them ate his Mother or someone dear to him, because he really had it in for those nasty things. Always Syn was like this well oiled machine from how he thought, to how he carried himself to execute every move. He was like a living timebomb!

The Grandmaster too was Testosterone-ready-to-pop! Master Syn would surely love to hear that they have this in common. But she isn't fearful of him at all. She didn't even care that she really can't seem to figure him out. He is a Jedi, and she just trusts he won't kill her, regardless of what his face did.

Not afraid. Nope.

She is GRATEFUL!!

The Knight jumped upon her tip-toes with glee and a squee escaped her throat. She almost made a move to hug the beast of a man, but withdrew at the last second. Instead she ducked under his arm for the doorway. She turned to give him a rushed curtsey again before exiting. She kicked up her heels in the corridor, and the Grandmaster would hear her exclamations of excitement, all...the way...down...the hall... until the door to her temporary quarters slammed shut behind her.

The next morning she would be ready by hour 0410, and the very first student in the room, seen in meditation till the start of the life changing lesson.

When the young Jedi Knight would arrive the next morning, she would indeed see that she was not the first sentient there. Vanagor was there, of course he was, the big man was cooling off dousing his bottled water over his head, he must have just completed his own workout. The same could be said for the select few Masters that were there. They were all speaking among themselves as Caltin appeared to be going over what they work on the next day. Was this what her class would look like?

Nope.

The younglings from yesterday were making their way out to the training grounds, several of them seemed all too eager to jump on and use the equipment in front of them. The kids were soon removed from the immediate vicinity of the devices via Force Levitation. Those who understood what was expected of them were doing sit ups, pushups and other calisthenics.

“Master Vanagor? When are we going to start learning your workout?” Adnael spoke up as expected. The Zabrak was impatient, but lazy.

When you attain the level of “Master” and I can trust you not to hurt yourself learning what I have to teach. Or I do not have people trying to swoop in and “save” you from me, the big mean trainer.

This brought some serious groans and whines of complaint.

Don’t worry though, you have a Jedi Knight joining you. So those of you not expecting more than what I will show you, if you wouldn’t mind getting her started on some exercises, we’ll begin our lesson soon enough.

Tempest fell in line with the others as students began to file in. The young students were from all corners of the galaxy, all walks of life, and she sifted in between those she suspected to be among her age group and quite possibly experience. After casting a quick round of welcome nods, the group immediately became engaged in the scheduled warm up.

Tempest began to follow the lead of what the other's were doing, when another group who had been speaking to Grandmaster Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor quickly approached and joined them. She knew many of them, while those she did not know, she had met last night. Her yacht always drew attention, and the younger students would remember her as the lady who always stops by to give them ice cream. Those older know her's as a place to kick back or dance while listening to the galaxy's top 40 tunes. Unlike the Grandmaster, Tempest has Brownie Points in all the ways he would probably consider wrong!

But they aren't on her yacht right now. They came to train. The Force stirred forth profound, and fortified the students who were experienced in engaging themselves in it. Soon her corner of the training arena began to perform their kata in unison.

From jogging in place, to jumping jacks, to situps, the exercise program was in full swing. Was this going to be it? Was there more to it? Several of the younglings were already asking him and Caltin said nothing more than “get back to work”. Then there was a lap (“a” meaning 10) around the Temple and more jogging, jumping jacks and situps.

Boring.

Then he set up large rocks next to each of them. The task was to levitate the stone and keep it in the air while doing as many pushups as you can.

Breath control... Tempest focused on her Force abilities to fight off a hangover she acquired over the course of the past week, as she followed the student leading the routine. 'This IS boring!' Tempest knew this wouldn't be all there is though, and to learn from the notorious Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor is something special in itself. He might jump into ANYTHING next!

Tempest is no stranger to physical training. As pristine as she is, one simply doesn't expect her to be about anything dedicated. In fact, she is so removed from living the expected life of a Jedi, that she does not even utilize Force Powers every day. When she was younger, she struggled with wrapping her head around all the in-fighting around the many Jedi factions, that it became difficult to choose one to dedicate herself to. Instead of loyal devotion to one faction, she went around to learn from as many Masters as would have her. Each had different strengths and benefits. Today, she sees each faction as working together, and her choice is to return to Syn Syn 's side whenever he calls for her assistance.

As she hopped factions to learn, so did she meet the youth of each and make friends among her peers. It did not hurt her to have such a fabulous ship either. Many could identify the ship, better than they knew anything about her, its owner.

It happened that she noticed a younger student struggling to concentrate on levitating the rocks while also completing the exercise. She spoke to them Telepathically, and guided them in how to manifest the result required, all the while not missing a beat on her own movements.

Master Vanagor stood at the center of his training hall, surrounded by younglings eager to learn the basics of the Force. He was a seasoned Jedi Master, known for his expertise in teaching foundational skills to the next generation of Padawans. As he began the lesson, he couldn't help but notice that Jedi Knight Tempest Yore was practicing alongside the younglings. He was surprised to see her there, but decided to welcome her nonetheless.

Vanagor started with the basics of telekinesis, and the younglings practiced moving objects with their minds. They were doing well, but Vanagor noticed that Yore was struggling. She seemed to be busier with herself than the lesson; it was clear that she was having trouble understanding the point of the exercise. Vanagor could not help but wonder why the seasoned Jedi Knight was having so much trouble with such a basic skill. He decided to step in and offer a bit of guidance.

Knight Yore, he said, addressing her in front of the other students. Your movements are too hurried. It's important to focus and take your time when attempting to influence an object with the Force.

He wondered if perhaps she felt above this type of training, or if she did not fully understand why she was participating alongside the younglings. He decided to take a different approach. Clearly her earlier approach to training with him spoke of a different expectation, but there was something else to this.

Remember, the Force is not something to be mastered, but a power to be respected," he continued. "You must master humility before you can hope to master the Force.

At this, Yore seemed to light up, as if she had suddenly gained a deeper understanding of the lesson, or at least the big man had hoped.

The younglings continued to practice, and with Yore's renewed attention, the entire group improved. The lesson ended, and Vanagor dismissed the students, thanking them for their hard work. Yore lingered behind, and Vanagor approached her.

It is my hope that you understood the lesson, Knight Yore, he said It's important for us all, no matter our rank or ability, to practice the basics of the Force. We can always learn and improve.

Vanagor could hope she had learned an important lesson, one that would serve her well on her path as a Jedi. And so, Master Vanagor continued to train younglings in the basic skills of the Force, knowing that even the most seasoned of Jedi could always benefit from a reminder to remain humble and open to learning.

Tempest did not refute the Master’s observation. She felt that perhaps he saw something she did not perceive when she had attempted to assist the other students. A refresher course was always welcome. Getting involved with other Jedi too is something she only recently began to value. She spent much of her time alone, only doing what was necessary when she noticed darkness in her path. She hardly volunteered herself to seek it out intentionally.

After the physical training let out, he spoke to her again. “Yes, Master. I had figured your lesson would be in league with your planned lesson.” She observed that he is quite a busy man and honestly hadn’t the time to help her figure out what skill focus she could benefit to expand. She did not insist upon a private lesson. Perhaps her ideal limits are all in her head afterall. Such a notion is not unfathomable or original. She would ponder the words of this one, that one must master humility before mastering the Force. It seemed a mysterious concept, how humility should help one learn, or make them be prepared to learn. “Perhaps you would please elaborate on how one masters humility?”

Tempest would spend some time showing the others some skills to help progress them. The only devotion she could teach them which she observed beyond Master @Caltin Vanagor’s lessons, is her perception of self actualization and perception of freedom and love of life.

Master Vanagor watched as Knight Yore struggled to grasp the meaning behind the lesson. She had been pushing through the exercises just fine, but it seemed was missing the point entirely. This gave her pause, as she knew firsthand that humility cannot be taught; it can only be learned.

He remembered his own journey towards humility. It had been a difficult one, filled with many setbacks and hard lessons. It was only through experiencing failure and recognizing his own shortcomings that he began to understand the true nature of virtue. And from that understanding came a deep sense of gratitude and respect for those around him.

Master Vanagor knew that Knight Yore would have to travel a similar path in order to truly learn humility. She could guide him and impart her knowledge, but ultimately it would be up to him to take that journey. She decided to give him time and space to reflect on what she had taught him, hoping that he would come to understand the importance of humility in his own way.

I could tell you how I learned, but that is how I learned, you are your own person with your own path.
