It's All Fun and Games

As Abigail stepped into the training area, her eyes immediately tried to take in everything she could see. Although there wasn't that much to see, there still was some variety to the grounds. Some small walls here and there gave the place a bit more of a realistic touch, but it stayed a rather clean training area nonetheless.

Abigail had to be honest about the fact that she had no idea who she was facing today. She just had been offered to do a friendly spar, and she wasn't one to say no to that. While she was relatively good, there was still much room for improvement.

Dressed in a rather simple outfit, one that wouldn't get in her way during the fight, she held a long stick in her hand, with which she practiced some basic strikes and movesets, waiting for her opponent to arrive. She hoped the individual she would be meeting was some she could get along with. If they could just have a little chat and a friendly spar, this would be a great day. She just hoped the person she was facing wouldn't be here to show off how dominant they were, because then it was bound to be both a tough and cold fight.

Who knew, perhaps she'd even make a new friend today...

Alas Zakath arrived in short order, and gave curt bow. He wasn't overly familiar with Abigail, but she looked strong enough. He was also by no means an expert swordsman, a trait in which many Jedi seemed to excel. For each time there is a strength, the slider on the other side must tip to expose a weakness. It was the way of the verse. Balance.

He selected a firm wooden sword from the rack and swung it, form sloppy.

"Hmppph."

Then turned to face her, eyes sparkling green. He sloughed off his half plate armor, until he was down to trousers, and a tunic. He tossed his utility belt to the corner, and then faced her in the ring.

"Well then, nice to finally meet you. Zakath Tariz, Jedi Scholar."

One hand extended towards her in a greeting.

Abigail gave the man a friendly smile as he entered. She had not said anything yet, waiting for the man to come closer after having disposed of his armour.

As Abigail took his hand to shake it, she gave him a polite nod.

"Abigail Meredydd, happy padawan. And it's nice to meet you too."

From what Abigail had seen so far, the man was probably going to be quite the tough opponent. Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, because that meant she'd probably learn more from this little spar. At first sight the man seemed friendly enough, and that always made things more enjoyable.

"So," she said with a smile," anything you want to discuss before we get this started? Any particular rules, the weather... a safeword perhaps?"

She said the latter in a sort of teasing manner, but she was well aware that it could very well be a thing people agreed upon in friendly matches. She had to admit she didn't really know. Perhaps it was even custom to get to know eachother a little better before the fight.
Ah well, Zakath would probably know what would come next.

He shook his head, curious of her super friendly personality.

"You must excuse me, the folks I've been dealing with have all been trying to kill me for like the last two months. But anyways, no, no rules."

He paused scratching his beard.

"No face shots, and I gotta warn you, I'm not particularly great at the blade so there'll be some of this, involved."

He illustrated his point by waggling his fingers in a playful manner.

Abigail nodded with a small smile.
"That obviously counts both ways. I would like my face to remain intact enough for me to be able to use it to get out of fights without having to do- well- what we're about to do."

Abigail's eyes followed the man's fingers as he waggled them around.
"What? You're going to tickle me?", she joked before she quickly stuck her tongue out towards the man.

Taking a bit more of a serious look, she then nodded again. "I understand what you mean, although I must ask that you try to keep the fight going with blades for as long as possible...I'm already perfectly capable of elbowing you in the chin, thanks."

The way how she acted, behaved and looked at the man would make it clear that she was merely having a bit of friendly fun, joking a bit before they'd start their little spar.

Zaktah nodded.

"Very well. I'll teach you what I know of form I. Easy to master, based on literally swordsmanship with steel blades and the like."

He slid his right foot back, left forwards and angled his left hip to face her.

"Let us begin."

His wooden sword came up in a cross guard, right hip to left shoulder, then he attacked, shuffling forwards, launching a right hand slash....

"Alright", Abigail spoke while nodding. "That sounds good to me."

She observed the man's stance, and decided to try and mirror it.
As the man told then to begin, she hadn't perfected her stance yet, but before she could say anything, he swung his sword.

Immediately, not caring about the stance anymore, she trusted her own wooden sword to meet the other before it could hit her. As the man's sword had lost its momentum by having been hit, Abigail took a step back while making sure her eyes where set on her opponent and her blade was in front of her.

She stepped forward again, quick dashing forward, faking a swing, before stepping back again, sword raised in front of her.

While she would love to be aggressive for once, she feared with the skills that she had it would be better to play it defensively, at least for now.

"A good move, but you should press your advantage. There is a difference between being tactically astute and being cocky. That difference is grounded in good clear judgment."

Now he pressed the attack, shuffling forwards another step. The wooden blade moved in his right hand to the left pull up muscle of his body. then he delivered a back hand slash left to right, a retraction, slid forward and thrust.

He wasn't using the force at this point, just basic form I which the Jedi Archives had taught him.

"Most Jedi and Sith trace their lightsabers back to the sword, thus the form I am showing you is the basic swordsman concepts, originally developed for a weighted actual tangible blade. It's been adapted to the weightlessness of a saber over the years, but it is still a sound base for taking on just about any other form."

"Press my advantage? So, counter whenever possible?", she asked while making sure she was aware of his sword's position and that of her own.

As the man struck again, Abigail now had just enough time to see it coming, and to block it more effectively, although she didn't get a clear opportunity to retaliate his swing. And it was luckily Abigail hadn't tried to swung herself, because if she had, she wouldn't have been able to stop the man's thrust, something she barely stopped even now.

"Alright, so your saying, this is as basic as it gets? You could theoretically counter anything with this?", she asked as she took a step towards the man, now taking a swing at the man herself.

"You are correct."

Then he let his guard slip, a space of two breaths with his sword sloppy and off to the side. He wanted to test out his counters now.

"Well, it's nice to be correct every once in a while."

Abigail suspiciously eyed the man's move, letting a gap fall for Abigail to exploit. Not wishing to pass up on the opportunity, she lunged forward herself before slashing towards the man.
