Hyperdrive Class: N/A
Strengths:
Speed: During her design phase of this ship Lira had one thing and one thing in mind alone, design a ship that would take into command the reaction times and speeds that only a Jedi could work in. To facilitate this, the J-1 Class Light Interceptor was built for pure unadulterated speed. It houses a single custom engine pod designed by Lira and built by Jedi Technicians. This engine is incredibly powerful and utilizes a new system in burning fuel increasing its energy output. As well to go along with this, the ship Is made out of Duranium alloy making it incredibly light and hardy, as well as its quick and sleek design all add up to making the J-1 Class Interceptors possibly the fastest ships in the galaxy.
Maneuverability: In keeping with the ships original design phase the J-1 was also designed to be incredibly maneuverable. The ships small wings, tight curves, and small angles make it atmospherically viable, its tiny arrowhead design as well allows it to move more quickly while in atmosphere. To go along with its sleek design, the J-1 Class Interceptor is dotted with dozens of tiny thrusters using individual power sources that allow the pilot to give the ship tiny nudges in certain direction, giving the ship a massive amount of maneuverability. To compensate for these tight turns, and quite possibly insane maneuvering capabilities the J-1 comes equipped with a powerful Inertial compensator that keep the pilot alive. Were this device to fail, the ships capabilities would be severely hampered.
Surprising Hit: The J-1 class even with its speed and maneuverability comes equipped with a powerful GN-40 Twin Blaster Cannons. This powerful repeating blaster cannons have a massive amount of damage output and can reap some serious hurt on most targets. The ship also comes equipped with a single Mine layer located directly beneath the engine. This Mine layer hold two Void-7 Seismic charges. This mine layer takes advantage of the J-1's superior speed. A trick often performed with the J-1 is to get fighters to chase it, then deploy one of these powerful mines to catch enemy squadrons unaware. To further support this its secondary weapons load out switches between three setups, Concussion Missiles, Proton Missiles, and Jedi Shadow Bombs. Each load out is geared towards a specific mission and is chosen by the Jedi upon the embarkation of their mission.
Weaknesses:
Use The Force: Due to the speed, maneuverability, and sheer amount of sensory input the J-1 Class Interceptor provides, it is simply impossible for someone without the force to fully utilize this Ship. A non-force user utilizing this craft would more then likely end up crashing and destroying this fighter due to the speed at which it normally works at. This makes the J-1 quite dangerous as it requires quite a bit of training to actually use.
Shields: The J-1 Class interceptors due to their size and their design field no shield generator. Much like its inspiration the Eta-2 Actis Class Interceptor the J-1 has no shield, it was deemed that the ship itself was fast enough to not need one. However, if by some chance the ship is hit, it likely won't last very long even with its Duranium hull. This makes the ship somewhat more vulnerable, as other interceptors in the current galaxy do have Shield generators, and they may be able to hit a critical strike on the J-1 that removes it from combat, or destroy it entirely.
Hyperdrive: The J-1 Class has no hyperdrive to speak of. Like its predecessor the Eta-2 Actis, it has no on board hyperdrive system and instead relies upon a separate hyperdrive ring or a larger carrier ship.
Reactor: Unsurprisingly, the reactor that run the engine and the weapons system of the J-1 Class is at best, somewhat unstable. This reactor, though not prone to exploding, has had instances of failing. It was designed by the padawan Lira DaJ-1 with the aid of Mechu Deru as well as several venerable Jedi Technicians out of the same reactor that ran the original Eta-2. The only difference is, the reactor was essentially overclocked to give out three times the power output. This puts the reactor in a precarious position as it reacts more unpredictably. As a result, one has to be far more careful. Bumps and collisions in normal ships are fine, in the J-1, they are far more dangerous. A significant impact could unstabilize the power core and cause it to explode. This is another reason why a Jedi pilot is so important, in order to avoid even minor collisions one most have the reaction time to use the ships full maneuverability, lest they cause an accident.
Description:
The J-1 Class Interceptor came about as a thought experiment from a young girl who has a starship Fetish.
From a young age Lira Dajenn has had a fascination with starships, particularly fighter craft and interceptors. These sleek, fast, and relatively powerful ships had utterly consumed her early fantasies, and when it was time to attend university Lira naturally went into Vessel Design and Starship Function. For four years she studied and exceeded in this program, though her work was unfortunately interrupted by the arrival of the Sith, her using the force, and the subsequent run for her life.
When Hal and Avalore saved Lira from Prakith and inducted her into the Jedi Order, her studies naturally fell off.
However, it was during her off time that Lira with the help of Jedi Knight Bethany Elspeth discovered her talents in the art of Mechu Deru. Though her skills in the technique did not extend far, she was able to sense the “ailments” of ships and know the sum of their whole, an interesting skill for a girl that was so in love with the idea of starships. Discovering this talent, and deciding to expand upon it, Lira asked Elspeth to aid her.
Knight Elspeth, being a reasonable Twi'lek woman decided that she would encourage this gift.
Thus the experiment of the J-1 was born.
Lira was given a surprising amount of trust, beginning the design of the ship with a holo-projector and some very advanced computers. The Blue-prints she created were highly advanced and the numbers she projected for a new type of engine were astounding. Having faith in their student, and knowing that the Jedi could use an edge against the One Sith War Machine, the council gave Lira the resources she needed.
Over the next few months Lira designed, built, and subsequently tested the J-1 Light Interceptor, creating a ship whose speed and maneuverability were completely unmatched by anythign currently existing in the galaxy.
This was achieved through numerous ways. Lira first with the aid of several Jedi and Kuat Drive Yard Technicians created a new type of engine that drew extra power from a small reactor core as well as burned fuel itself. This engines efficiency was rated at three hundred percent above a regular twin ion engine, though it was also somewhat unstable. To further at to the ships maneuverability tiny thrusters were added both on the top and bottom of the wings of the ship, giving the user of the ship an incredibly amount of control.
To compensate for this quite frankly insane speed and maneuverability the ship has two Inertial Compensators instead of just one. These Compensators work overtime to ensure that when piloting the ship, the pilot remains relatively safe and comfortable. The ship also had incredible counter measures against being unlocked or otherwise stolen, containing an electronic field around it while locked and needing specific force sensors to be triggered in order to allow it to be piloted, the ship also had a self destruct that could be remotely triggered.
Unfortunately, due to the ships speed, maneuverability, and the vast amount of sensory input it provides it is nearly impossible to pilot this ship without the force at its max speed. Simply because of how fast it moves and how precise everything needs to be, one needs the extra added instinct of the force to perfectly utilize this craft. This vessel is extremely difficult to fly, and even veteran pilots have difficulty handling it at only half of its max speed. The addition of the force makes things easier, but unless one is truly a Master in the cockpit, the J-1 is rather difficult to push to its limits.
