CONTENT INFORMATION
Early View: The jedi shadows as a group are now largely misunderstood... what was darkside hunters has become spies and an excuse to try and use the darkside. When in truth such actions would have been scoffed at and avoided. Shadows served under the Council of First Knowledge, there was no leader there was no ranks or privileges within them. These are powered jedi sentinels, ones who pursue a middle ground between the guardians and consulars. They were first see in the Great Hyperspace War, was being dispatched in the aftermath. To largely find and destroy artifacts of the darkside. They destroyed many but more always exist, some hidden away and some easy to make.
After the great sith war the Jedi Covenant seemed to form and crated their own version of the shadows. Deleting records of them or faking their deaths so that they would be able to serve the retired jedi master Lucien Draay. One of the most notable was Celeste Morne who would continue on after she found a darkside object of immense power and disappeared. The jedi covenant with their covenant shadows had dangerous plans and plotted Vindication a mass insurrection against the jedi order that would have them in control of it. The insurrection was put down and the shadows continued to operate within the galaxy.
By the time of the Great Galactic War and the Cold War the shadows were largely around and working within the order to help. They were sadly unaware of the children of the emperor and the first son a jedi master who was as a child made into an unaware sleeper agent. The spent the next centuries up until the Ruusan Reformation going after the sith, finding and destroying artifacts. after the demilitarization of the Republic and leading to the Great Disaster of the Age of the High Republic. They struck down darksiders who were less sith and more other groups who could pose a threat or were bringing the darkside to corners of the galaxy.
Their aid for protecting the starlight beacon where it could be found led up to the Clone Wars... the shadows were still in operation but were lost during the Great Jedi Purge. The rebuilt orders after that would if they formed them make the shadows vastly different as coming out of the dark ages the records of the Covenant seemed to have been used. Erasing identities and acting less as jedi with strict coes then they were spies, assassins... an excuse to use the darkside and be called a jedi. The Jadeite have worked to form them as they were and in reserve they operate under the council of first knowledge. With equipment needed and different ranks gathering the full information for them before they go in.
Moral Absolutism: The shadows were hand picked by the council of first knowledge for their training and views. There was no middle ground with them, black and white morals... which is dangerous as the jedi do not always dealin absolutes. Instead this could make them paranoid and perceived as loners compared to the rest of the order. They could work together with each other but the danger of that is each would reinforce their paranoid suspicions of other jedi who might be using the darkside or what could be a darkside group in an area. Judgement and wisdom were often granted by the Councilor of first knowledge to maintain and focus them.
Dangers: One of the dangers of the jedi was the lure of the darkside.. no matter how they are trained... the lure is there... the whisper of power and eventually the power you are getting to reach your goal is forgotten because you want to get more power. The Shadows fallin to a dangerous place generally but they are also some fo the most trained for resisting the darkside. The few shadows documented for turning to the darkside had them being broken mentally to be turned by darksiders who understood how to get into ones head. Tohelp with this more training inhow to resist the darkside is used and enhancing resistance to the darkside into their robes will help them mentally.
Power Restrained: Something often overlooked my modern jedi orders is that the shadows were powerful... these were not just jedi with more training or a special rank.. these were jedi who were often considered powerhouses in terms of what they could do with the force and they chose instead of being in positions of power to serve the council. They made a choice that would keep them restrained but the order didn't do it. They chose to do it and they controlled how little or how much power they would be able to use in an engagement. Restraint was a powerful tool in their arsenal. The Jadeite have worked with them to create force limitors that will let them seal away portions of their force strength to not be tempted to use it all.
