BIOGRAPHY:
The road to hell is paved with good intentions it is said, and for Janus the story of his life was falling out of control. His early days were mostly uneventful, and it was a good life. Community, and family were the center of his existence, and if he'd had his way the Cathar doubt he would have ever truly left his home. Instead he was born a force sensitive, and was discovered in likely the worst way possible in his opinion. By the Sith.
He went to train against his family's wishes simply because he'd been told if he didn't his family would pay the price. It was an idle threat in truth, a single Cathar wasn't worth the cost of the bombs that the Sith told him they'd drop for his defiance. He could have also simply failed out, but pride won out. As much as he was displeased to be away from his home and among the Sith he couldn't swallow his pride to simply fail. Instead after a few years of training he found himself a Sith Knight, but despite his passionate nature he'd mostly rejected the beliefs and hatred of the Sith. He feared he was in for a miserable life that would slowly eat up his soul and make him a monster.
It was not to be though. Like many Sith before them they failed and simply scattered to the wind to reform later. This left Janus was a chance he'd never thought to have, simply go home and be done with it all, and that is exactly what he did. He took what credits he had, with a few personal items he didn't find tainted, and simply left. Technically he stole a military transport on the way out, but it was common practice for the Sith to divy up and eat up their own empire's no matter how small on the way out. Many in fact began to move before the break up, no doubt a great reason why they failed again and again.
He never felt freer in his life then when he activated the hyperspace engines and watched the stars blur by him in a flurry of colors and light. He was done with it all, now and forever. Forever was a long time though, and to a young man forever is a great unknown.
He returned home to find life very different then when he'd left. Devastation, sickness and hunger had claimed his home as their own. Some unknown battle or simply just a skirmish, he'd never really gotten the full understanding of it had left their lands defiled. It hadn't even been the Cathars' battle, but his people had fought when soldiers came to raid for food or loot. Who knew, and who knew under who's orders. It was war unending, what was the difference who now, because tomorrow the other side could come for the same thing.
Without a legitimate source to appeal to aid from, and with their scarred tree devoid of anything close to credits or even something to sell they'd simply dug in and tried to survive. It wasn't going well. So Janus upon his return turned to the only place he knew that he could find everything, the black market. Smugglers were bought and paid for, and goods slowly began to trickle their way back into their tree. His credits were far from a vast sum however, and the people's needs were great, and so he sought a way to pay for food and medicines with work.
The local crime syndicate met and came to an agreement most beneficial for the syndicate, but it would get the Cathar what they needed for the colony. Janus' first thought had been to simply sell his stolen ship, but he'd let himself be convinced that he could save his people and help them through smuggling. Ordinarily a single Cathar with a ship really wouldn't be worth that much, but thinking to create some confusion he let slip he had Sith training. What choice did he have?
Of course he had plenty. A more humble Cathar could have gone to other colonies and asked for aid. A less guilty Cathar would have gone perhaps to a more charitable organization or even asked the Jedi for help. A wiser man might have simply sold the ship honestly and it would have been enough to get them through the tough times or even to move to another colony. A proud headstrong Cathar who lacked for a council of Elders due to illness would try to solve it all himself even though that burden was self imposed. He might even ignore his mother's advice out of feelings of regret and guilt for not being there when he felt he was needed. Worst perhaps yet a dark fire might be growing in his heart from the grief of a Father lost to a skirmish that had nothing to do with their people. All these things might make choice feel impossible, but somewhere deep inside he ignored he knew the truth. He'd chosen steps that made him feel better about his guilt, and while his people were a deep and true consideration he felt a need to solve it himself.
This came a slippery slope from small time smuggling, to his first spice run and finally a job here in there in enforcement. A younger Janus would have been shocked, but his guilt could never be sated. His need to see his people better off could never be satisfied, even when they told him it was enough and he should come back home for good.
Years passed like this until the day he had a litter of his own. It was then that he began to push the Elders to move. This area wouldn't be right again for years, and it was time their children grew up in a better place. The few Elders who had been on the council longer thought patience was the better route, but the younger Cathar who had taken lost Elder's seats thought differently. They yearned for action that would correct everything in one fell swoop.
