Jedi Dueling Tournament! Iakchi V Vandemar

It was the day, Jedi were coming in from all across the galaxy for the dueling tournament. While a good number signed up, many more were showing up for the networking and rest-and-relaxation that such a tournament would provide for such an event. Setting up a number of arenas around the Temples on (Praxeum World), the Jedi Praxeum was hosting Jedi from all walks to duel for eternal glory.

Or bragging rights and whatever the Jedi Artisans could cook up in their labs. Coren Starchaser, one of the figureheads of the galaxy’s Jedi, was, almost obviously, at the center of the tournament’s idea, but would only be stepping in as an alternate. He had pieced together groups into brackets based on Jedi rank and not necessarily skill levels.

What he had were several rings set up for Masters, Knights, and Padawans to go toe-to-toe. Rules were simple, compete for the time allowed, and anyone who gets knocked down is out. Step to the side, and let the contest continue as others advanced. There would be a benefit for all who participated by the end, but those who rose to the top would earn a few items.

What was happening before the tournaments, was ensuring that armors were removed, any imbued items were removed, and general sparring outfits were granted. From bodysuits, to robes, to other workout gear. Rows of training melee weapons were set up. If someone had a preferred melee weapon? They’d find the mundane, training variant here. Jedi Sentinels from Starchaser’s influence were approaching of the outdoor combat zones. Each were set up to provide enough room to spar, but no real environmental challenge.

The Wookiee knight had been looking forward to this for some time. He'd never met the fellow knight he was scheduled to duel against, but it would be a fun little test of his strength. While disappointed that he couldn't take her personal saberstaff into the fight, despite it's power settings allowing for training strength, Iakchi silently handed it off to whoever was in charge of taking care of personal effects, along with his overcoat. There wasn't much need for blaster-resistant clothing here, and it would impede his movement anyway. Besides, he preferred to fight without clothing regardless.

Taking a training saberstaff from the available weapons, Iakchi made his way to the preparation area, waiting on his opponent [member="Lord of Vandemar"] before they get started.

The tall human is helped out of his armour by one of the designated service team. It is put on a stand next to the weapon rack he can choose from. He was mustering it for a while, thinking through the possibilities of what he could choose, before he decides. Pike or single-blade? Bram is not used to one-on-one duels, it is quite a long time ago since he had such a private encounter.

He spots his opponent moving into the arena before him. A tall Wookie. That will be fascinating. Bram Sigismund enters the arena as well, a single-bladed training weapon in his hand. Even he hadn´t duelled in a way, he knows that there are certain manners he has to follow. Walking towards the Wookie and stopping a few meters in front of him, he bows with his blade in front of his face.

"I am Bram Sigsmund."

"Pleasure to meet you," the Wookiee replied in his native tongue, the only language he was capable of speaking. It would be unfortunate if his opponent couldn't understand him, but it wasn't the most common of languages. "You can call me Iakchi. Are you ready?"

Iakchi ignited the blade. Pale green. Ugly. While he much preferred the silver blue color of his own saber, he'd take any other color over this vomit-reminiscent monstrosity, even one of those red blades the Sith seemed to fancy. But if it held perhaps he'd change his mind. The Wookiee half-twisted his body, raising the blade high with one hand and turning it sideways, a perfect example of the Juyo opening stance. He gave a wolfish grin to his opponent, a typical intimidation tactic given his hulking stature. It was time.

Bram does not understand what the Wookie is saying, but does not bother with trying to communicate further or to interpet the noises made. The ignition of his training saber says more than is necessary.

The Zakuulan holds his own blade in his right hand, not taking a closer look at it and weighing it. It is unbalanced and not very well made, but sufficient for today. With a slight movement of his finger the blade is ignited too, shining and humming in a dirty yellow. Bram Sigismund is in no known stance, simply standing there with his training sabre in his hand, the blade pointing downwards. Ignoring the grinning of the Wookie and everything around, he starts moving forward at his opponent, no expression on his face except for cold focus.

His approaching opponent seemed confident, something that inspired the same in Iakchi. He began to approach slowly as well, preferring not to give away the trick up his sleeve and content to let his opponent believe him to be an overaggressive brute, something his stature and even species would imply to most opponents. Eyes watched every movement, trying to get a read on slight changes and adjustments in posture and attention. Anything to get an advantage once they clashed.

The Zakuulan spots his opponents adjustments but goes on. Sigismund suddenly bursts into a sprint, covering the short distance to the Wookie and bringing up his training sabre in an upward intended strike, but stopping in the middle of it while jumping forward, performing a very low roll and attempting to attack the legs of the tall fur-beast, when coming up again.

The feint isn't too difficult to predict. It's actually a solid move against a larger opponent, one that he's seen used against him quite a few times in training sessions. Rather than take the bait and block the high strike, the Wookiee sidestepped and turned his training saber downward, parrying the low strike as [member="Lord of Vandemar"] completed his roll. A backhanded swipe followed as Iakchi took another step, turning himself to ensure he faced his opponent.
