Jedi Group Training: The Basics of Lightsaber Combat [Open]

The Jedi Master Hasjo Hallu stood in the courtyard outside of the Voss temple. Few saw the metalloid Nautolan around the temple nowadays, and when they did it certainly had something to do with vigorous training exercises with the Sixth Battalion. It was commonly known among most of the senior members of the Order that Hasjo was a Sith-Hunter and spent most of his days tracking them down with the Sixth Battalion at his back. He was a versatile opponent who looked like a walking armoury with the array of weapons he utilised in combat. He had chosen the path of the Exotic Weapons Master as a Jedi Guardian and now devoted some portion of his time as an Instructor. He knew six of the seven forms, and held mastery over one and advanced in two. For this, his knowledge and experience with live-combat was respected. This particular morning he awaited the arrival of whomever had chosen to take his class. Whether they be a Padawan or Knight.

Kycoros Oberon knocks, "I-i heard there was going to be a l-lightsaber training class" it is painfully obvious that he is shy and nervous

Jeela strode into the training area and gave a bow to Master Hallu once she saw him. She had both her real lightsaber and a training saber clipped to her belt, depending on which was preferred in classes like these. It had been some time since she had had a formal lightsaber training class, and this would,be her first withy the Silver Jedi, or Jedi of any kind even. It would be interesting to see what the difference would be.

She have a nod of greeting to [member="Kycoros Oberon"] as well. It seemed there would be another student here as well. Excellent.

"h-hello..." he says. the fact that he is shy radiates off of him, his voilet eyes looking at the ground, "I-i am Kycoros Oberon...I am reletivly new to the the order of the silver jedi... i-it is nice to meet you" he says examining her emotional state, being highly empathic

"Well met then, Kycoros. I am Jeela Tillian, and also new to the Silver Jedi." She gave a slight frown, and added quietly, "And to the Jedi as a whole." She studied him. Definitely shy. She didn't need the Force to see that. He reminded her of someone she'd met before, almost. Strange how we would see people we knew in others and how it could color perceptions of these new people. Nostalgia drifted across her mind, and gave him a friendly smile. "What brought you to the Order?"

"w-well lady Maya Lightbringer brought me here after my former jedi master abandoned me on dantooine...she showed me kindness I have rarely seen..." he says looking up at her slightly, his scales glisten slightly

Hasjo crossed his arms, watching the ordeal. He was quiet and remained thus. Once communications between the padawans had ceased, his synthesised voice cut through the air, "Less talk, more practice." His voice was lifeless, monotone and lacking all form of emotion. He sounded more machine than sentient. His grey armoured and black gloved hand curled around a single blade lightsaber. He tore it away from his belt and ignited the weapon with a familiar hiss of plasma. The weapon illuminated the close vicinity with a cerulean haze. "Your lightsaber is an invaluable tool. Even when inactive, it can defuse a potentially volatile situation. You're here to learn how to properly utilise this weapon. But you must know, these weapons are not playthings. A lightsaber is a dangerous and destructive instrument, a powerful blade that can strike down an opponent—or a friend, if you're not careful."

Matsu walked, letting her black outfit remain tight and hold everything in place as she brushed the surface of her coat off. She was relearning what she had lost and now making the ideas swim around her head. The training saber on her hips while her hair framed her face. She wondered who was here as the time came and entered the room seeing her one student Jeela and another one. The jedi leading this class was skilled and she could use these lessons to do many things. "Masters Hallo"

Jeela frowned at Kycoros' last comment about being abandoned. That did not sound like Jedi behavior at all. There was undoubtedly interesting stories there, but now was not the time to inquire further. She turned to Master Hallu and listened, nodding as he spoke. He was acknowledged as the master of weaponry in the Order, so he undoubtedly knew a great deal to teach. If a situation required a lightsaber, even an inactive one, then he situation had already decorated far too much and the Jedi had failed to talk peace.

The blade certainly did have destructive power. She'd seen it first-hand and what it did to the rest of the inhabitants of the galaxy.they respected it if they had not seen it used against them or their family, and hated it if they did.
She turned when she heard a familiar voice and bowed to Master Ike.

Pravis Sharman calmly walked through the sleek and shiny hallways of the Temple, trying to find the way to the courtyard outside. He didn't know why he was brought here, and despite [member=Hasjo Hallu]'s suspicions, he was pretty sure that he wasn't a Jedi, or force-sensitive for that matter. But, learning new skills always proved useful. " Hey, what are the directions to the courtyard? " The soldier asked a Gand padawan. " Take'th th' hallway to th' left'th, and make a turn'th to right'th, and then you'll be'th there'th. " The man said with a incredible lisp. Pravis nodded, and followed his directions, and soon found himself outside.

He saw the Nautolan, and some padawans training with him. " Your already in the middle o' class I see. "

Hasjo motioned with the lightsaber in a wide arc towards the students. "Form Zero, whilst not an actual form, is the most crucial for a Jedi. You must learn when to use your blade. We Jedi are guardians of peace. Even I, a soldier, know when a blade must be used. Words always come first. A weapon should only be used in self-defence, or to aid one in defeating an enemy if they refuse reason. It is not the Jedi way to kill, and to maim is not something to be taken lightly. For this, I will teach you how to take down your opponent without serious bodily harm." Many Lightsabers have a power setting, and Hasjo's was no different. He pinched a nozzle and began to twist. "Assign yourselves partners. I will be going with Ike. Lower the power settings on your lightsabers. I want bruises, not missing limbs." His voice was as lifeless and dead as ever. It lacked all emotion. This was not a trait of Hasjo himself, but his synthesised voice. He has been rendered unable to utilise his voice naturally and requires a apparatus to speak for him, giving him a droid-like tone. He glanced up to the newcomer, [member="Pravis Sharman"]. "But first. All of you. I will demonstrate Form I. Shii-Cho. The Way of the Sarlaac. Best utilised for when one is outnumbered. Shii-Cho in it's most basic form can teach a Jedi in training the most crucial movements in lightsaber combat, and for that we will start with Form I." He stepped towards [member="Kycoros Oberon"], indicating his blade to various parts of the reptilians body. "The body target zones. Zone one - the head. Rarely should you ever use such an attack. It is often fatal - for this reason alone, I expect extreme caution in avoiding such a zone as much as possible. Only in the most dire of circumstances should one attack this zone." Hasjo took eight portioned steps back, placing his left foot forward and right foot back. He angled his body away from the students. "Once you have lowered your power settings, your blades will only leave bruises. My armor is impervious to such weak attacks. I wish you to attack me in only Zone one. One at a time. I will demonstrate how to defend an attack against this."

Jeela nodded, and pulled out her lightsaber, adjusting its power setting. Form Zero and Form One. She knew these, and had learned them multiple years ago, mbefore moving on to the Jensaarai adaptation of Djem So, designed to be used wearing their armor.

She did as instructed though and turned to the other two Padawans, lightsaber crackling with green plasma, to see how partnering would work out. Would they be together? One with her? One alone? Or a trio? Or demonstrate the attack first, leaving the other two to partner?

She took a deep breath, settling in the Force, letting it flow through her, and raised her blade over her head, horizontal and facing backwards, before slowly sliding towards [member="Hasjo Hallu"]. The chance of getting past his defense was essentially nothing, with a restriction like this, so she would focus on technique instead. Show him she knew what she was doing.

She let the Force build within her pressure building like a river behind a dam, and then when she was in range, she brought her saber up and over head head, coming down towards his head, releasing the built up pressure in the Force to augment the velocity of the attack. She hadn't quite managed to get a hold of the technique of using the Force to increase her strength yet. She was never quite sure how touchable the Fprce in that way.

Hasjo twisted his wrist, bringing the blade to a 180° angle, high above his head. As Jeela collided with his blade, he relented slightly, allowing her to push towards his head. Mere inches from the durasteel plating, he tightened his muscles. He stopped her attack abruptly. He shoved back twice as hard, utilising the powerful muscles in his shoulders and upper arms. He announced to the group as this attack had occurred, "The most common attack is a vertical one, that should be met with a horizontal defence. Try not to block the attack immediately, but rather slow the enemies blade until you're in the prime to halt it altogether. The strain will be reduced and you're less likely to injure your wrist. Most zone one defences will hold the blade at head-height, but for my technique, aim to hold it a bit higher. Make sure the blade sits perfectly angled across your body, lest their blade slip and cleave your shoulders."

Jeela feels the contact between the blades run up to her elbows. Even with Force augmented strength, she wouldn't have broken through. Hence the reason she needed to learn a different form.

She almost slid into the next move of the sequence after the impact, her body shifted, her feet moved, arms twosted to the side, but no. She stopped herself and stepped back, giving Master Hallu a bow. His was a specific demonstration. She did not need to run a full set. Only one.

So she stepped back, listening to his lesson. The part about slowing the blade made a lot of sense. She had never heard at one before, and she made a mental note to practice that. She tilted her head slightly, watching as Kycoros gave it a try, but still picturing the angle Master Hallu had demonstrated. She preferred to not slice her own shoulders open.

Matsu looked at Hasjo and gave a bow of her head as she took the saber from her belt. She didn't have the force energies or the connection to use techniques as she once had but she could still use it enough to hold a saber and not cut a limb off as she held it with both hands. Entering a shii-cho stance as she looked to the jedi master eyeing the others in the room. She might be diminished and weaker then before but she still remembered what she needed and the snap hiss came as the silver blade glowed in front of her. "Your makashi stance is quite good."

He observed [member="Kycoros Oberon"], he gathered that the man was not decisive or confident in his positioning and footing. There was little detail to his movements. He had chosen poorly in disregarding attention to detail of his own body. As the common upward diagonal slash of the Niman form raced towards Hasjo, the Master quickly countered. He moved with absolute fluidity and raw muscular strength. He performed the opposite move, a downward diagonal slash that would collide with Oberon's blade. As these two crashed, Hasjo spoke "Good. The diagonal slash is hard to counter or parry. It is best to counter with it's exact opposite, placing as much strength, or more, than your enemy is using. You don't want that attack getting anymore closer to you than necessary. But there's one problem, you need to be more defined in your attack and stance." Finishing his sentence, Hasjo released his right hand grip on the blade, holding it only with his left. He used the palm of his hand and leaned forward, attempting to shove against the centre of Oberon's chest - to unbalance him. "Or your opponent will find this weakness and use it against you." He returned his grip to his blade, switching so that his left hand is free. He placed his left hand behind his head, elevated upwards and arm stretched. This would provide him balance. "Your makashi stance is quite good."
Hasjo prepared himself, nodding at her compliment. He addressed the class whilst his eyes were focused on [member="Matsu Ike"], "Empty your mind. Be shapeless. Like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow, or it can crash. Be water my friends." It was clear that whilst Hasjo knew his forms and techniques, he relied heavily on strength.

the comment the master gave speaks to Kycoros and he becomes more confident in his abilities. when it is his turn, he strikes again, this time with more confidence and strength.

Be water. That was a lesson she had heard before and taken to heart. The concept was rather different though. She had not heard aspect with the cup before, or any tame water before. Rovers and seas, yes, but never a cup. She mulled that over some more, and then did it. She let her mind empty and fill with the Force, drifting in its swirls and rolling in its waves. This was not unlike the river. More serene though. More still. A lake rather than a river.

She react ovaries her blade and takes the djem so stance, and began working through a velocity, flowing from one move to another, guided by he peace of the lake. It worked, although it was very different from when she used the river as the source of her strength. This would require further experimentation.
