GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Jen’ari | Korriban Zombies
Jen (Lit. translated— Shadow)
'Ari (Lit. translated— Lord, King)

"The King's Shadow" or "The Lord's Shadow"
  • Affiliation: Darth Caedes, King of Korriban, and the Sith Order at large.
  • Classification: Undead | Conscript
  • Description: Korriban Sith Zombies, also known (colloquially) as Jen’ari or Korriban Zombies, are semi-sentient undead predators, infantry, and guardians native to the Sith tombworld of Korriban. Originally created during the Sith King Dathka Graush's dark experiments into Sith alchemy and magic, these creatures possess a horrifying and intimidating presence within the Force. The physical appearance of the Jen’ari varies, reflecting their former species, gender, and the transmutative effects of the corrupting magic which raised them, but they are often distorted and decayed due to the ravages of time and the battles they have endured. They move with a shuffling gait, able to gracelessly run, smelling of dust and decay. Despite their semi-sentient nature, they possess a limited intelligence, enough to wield weapons, engage in guided combat strategies, and form unique and shifting forms of hierarchy from within the hordes.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
  • Unit Size: Large
  • Unit Availability: Common
  • Unit Experience: Rabble
  • Equipment:
Assorted, low grade melee weaponry (clubs, axes, blades, flails, spears, etc.). Assorted, low grade blaster pistols, some with diminished power-packs.
  • Combat Function: The Jen'ari serve as relentless and terrifying frontline combat units for the Sith Order presence on Korriban. Their primary function is to overwhelm and terrorize the enemy forces, leading to confusion and panic. They excel in close combat, utilizing their enhanced strength to overpower opponents and infectious bites to create more of their kind during the battle. Their lack of intelligence means they act mainly on primal instincts, seeking to feed on living beings whenever the opportunity arises.

Due to this limited intelligence, they rely on sheer numbers and brute force to overwhelm their foes. However, as the Jen’ari retain some of the skills, instincts, and capabilities they had in life, they can wield various simple weapons (clubs, blades, blaster pistols/rifles), allowing them to engage in both close-quarter and ranged combat at an elementary level.

Because of the Jen’ari’s innate lack of strategic thinking, they require direction and support from more intelligent leaders, Sith practitioners (sorcerers) or Sith Lords like Darth Caedes himself. These leaders can guide their actions through the Force or by clever deployment, set goals, and coordinate them with other elements of the undead army to form a cohesive and more dangerous force on the battlefield.
  • Force Abilities: N/A
Strengths:
  • ( + ) Heightened Senses and Strength: After their transformation, due to Sith alchemical elements, the Jen'ari develop and possess heightened visual acuity in the dark when compared to their previously living bodies, giving them an innate advantage in low-light environments. Similarly, the nature of one's resurrection into the ranks of the undead grant the Jen'ari physical strength superior to that of their previously living bodies, making them formidable opponents in close combat. Unable to feel pain and devoid a sense of self preservation, Jen'ari can endure severe injuries and continue to advance toward their targets.
  • ( + ) Resistance to Physical Damage: Normal physical attacks do little to stop the advance of the undead. Unable to feel pain, they can continue fighting even after sustaining significant damage, withstanding considerable injuries which would incapacitate living beings.
  • ( + ) Weapons Proficiency: Due to the nature of the spellcraft which raised them, the Jen'ari retain some basic skills from their former lives, allowing them to wield various weapons with relative effectiveness. In this way, despite their limited intelligence, Korriban Zombies can wield weapons (such as clubs, blades, blaster pistols, etc.) depending upon their previous in-life-experience. This makes them dangerous and versatile in both melee and ranged combat situations.
  • ( + ) Infectious Transformation: The bite of the Jen'ari can infect living beings with a corrupting, necrotic infection, transforming them into zombies themselves. This makes the undead army a growing threat to any population it encounters.

The Jen'ari virus is transmitted through bites inflicted by infected individuals and/or fully turned zombies. The infection has an extremely high transmission rate, with a 98% chance of infection after being bitten. Other means of transmission, such as scratches or wounds caused by Jen'ari, carry a lower but still significant risk of infection (e.g., 30%). During this period, the infected individual may show subtle signs of sickness or fever, but the transformation into a Jen'ari does not become apparent until the final stages. During the transformation, the victim's physical appearance deteriorates rapidly. Once infected, the virus takes hold of the victim's body, powered by the Sith King's ancient alchemical arcanum. The transformation process turns the living being into an undead Jen'ari, loyal to the undead hordes and to the Sith. Their eyes glow red, their skin becomes sunken and dry, and their skeletons crack and conform to become weapons— causing spear-like protrusions to sprout from the palms of hands, or to form long bone-like clawed fingers and sharp teeth, etc. Upon death of the host body, the Tsaiwinokka Hoyakut reanimates the deceased individual as a fully functional and hungry, aggressive Jen'ari zombie. The newly reanimated Jen'ari retains some of its previous memories and skills, though the degree of this retained information/functionality seems to be random, and later plays a large role in the risen Jen'ari's place within the horde's primal system of politics and hierarchy.

Traditional modern medicine is largely ineffective against the Jen'ari infection due to its alchemical and magical origin. However, characters with light-sided healing abilities or purification techniques have a chance to cure the infection. Light-sided healing (such as that derived from typical Jedi healers, etc.) can cure the Jen'ari infection if administered early enough in the incubation period or immediately after a bite occurs. Swiftly removing the afflicted body part (e.g., amputating the bitten limb) before the infection spreads can also prevent the transformation. Jedi and other Force-sensitive characters have a greater chance of resisting the infection for a time due to their connection to the light side of the Force, though ultimately the infection persists. Some species or individuals may possess a natural resistance to the Jen'ari infection, reducing their chances of getting infected upon being bitten. Additional resistances may be due to certain genetic traits, Force sensitivity, or prior exposure to similar dark side alchemical creations.
Weaknesses:
  • ( - ) Brain Dead: The only effective way to destroy a Korriban Zombie is by inflicting massive trauma to the head or severing it from the body. That, or complete bodily disintegration. Because of their long undead bodies and lack of protective armor, however, their weakest areas are plainly undefended and easily damaged.
  • ( - ) Limited Intelligence: The Jen'ari's intelligence is diminished, making them prone to simple tactics and vulnerable to more complex strategies. While capable of basic skills like weapons aptitude, the Jen'ari have limited intelligence, making them predictable and susceptible to strategic outmaneuvering.
  • ( - ) Need To Feed: The Jen'ari have an overwhelming need to feed on the flesh of living sentient beings, which can lead them to become reckless and predictable in their pursuit of potential prey. Amidst this overwhelming urge to feed, the Jen'ari may be lured or tricked into traps. Although they can dampen this appetite with dead bodies and old flesh, their desire for living flesh can become easily distracting.
  • ( - ) Vulnerability to Sith Alchemy: As the zombies are creations of Sith alchemy, it might be possible to disrupt or control them using Sith-related artifacts or powerful Sith magic.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Jen'ari made up the rank-and-file of Sith King Dathka Graush's ancient undead army, reanimated through Sith alchemy and dark side sorcery (c. 7000 BBY). During his fifty-year reign on Korriban, the King discovered a powerful method of reanimating the dead using the Tsaiwinokka Hoyakut spell. His cruel and tyrannical rule over the Sith home world led to the substantial accumulation of corpses, providing him with ample raw material for his dark experiments.

Through his combined mastery of all three Sith magic, alchemy, and advanced technologies, Dathka Graush ascended to undeath by replacing his heart with a dark side, Force-sensitive crystal phylactery imbued with the spirits of over a thousand Sith. When Graush was later assassinated, the spirits of his zombie army were captured in the crystal heart and hidden within his Holocron. His mummified remains were buried in his tomb in the Valley of Golg, on Korriban.

The zombies remained dormant for millennia. Over the centuries, vague rumors circulated among galactic spacers about the reanimation capabilities of Sith alchemy, and stories of Korriban zombies dispatching unfortunate freighter crews spread.

In 950 ABY, during Darth Carnifex's campaign to reclaim the lost holy worlds of the Sith, Darth Caedes, a Sith sorcerer and Lord, spearheaded those efforts on Korriban. He discovered the hidden Gate of Graush, leading to the King's temple and a powerful Force nexus below. There, with Dathka Graush's heart in hand, Darth Caedes re-invoked the ancient Tsaiwinokka Hoyakut invocation, freeing the spirits of the long trapped Jen'ari and conjuring them forth once more to serve the Sith.
