GENERAL INFORMATION
Name: Jialgheer
Designation: Semi-Sentient
Origins: Pamarthe
Average Lifespan: 70 Years
Estimated Population: Planetary
Description: Jialgheer were a large, hardy breed of salt water reptile that lived on many of Pamarthe’s island chains. In addition to being well adapted to their climate, both land and sea, their strength and endurance made them ideal pack mounts for early settlers, becoming the primary mode of transport for long journeys between the islands. Though this trend has lessened with the prevalence of repulsor craft, domesticated Jialgheer are still a common sight amongst rural coastal settlements.

Average Length of Adults: 4m

Distinctions:
Jialgheer were one of the largest and heaviest reptiles found on Pamarthe. They had a stubble muzzle yet a broad, powerful jaw, flanked either side by a singular upward jutting tusk that they used to scrape and forage from the coastal rocks they called home. The back of their head featured a central fin that hinted at their aquatic nature, while their long body was covered with red scales and thick, body like plates that served to help protect them from Pamarthe’s predators. Though their sense of smell was limited, they had an exceptionally keen sense of sight, particularly in low light conditions, being well adapted to seeing in the murkiest depths of Pamarthe’s waterways thanks to a third eyelid. Due to their nature as a hermaphroditic species, Jialgheer lacked any sort of sexual dimorphism.

Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
STRENGTHS
Over Land: While not particularly fast, Jialgheer are noted for their exceptional stamina, and are known for maintaining a constant pace for almost a full day before tiring. Though not particularly graceful, they are deceptively agile and can climb all but the most sheer rock faces.
Over Sea: Jialgheer are very powerful swimmers, capable of traversing Pamarthe’s seas in order to travel from one island to the next in a given chain. They can also hold their breath for close to an hour before they need to resurface.
Armoured: The heavy bone plates along their back make for decent protection against Pamarthe’s airborne predators. Unfortunately, they also mean that an extra padded saddle is recommended to avoid getting what seasoned riders refer to as ‘scale crotch’.
WEAKNESSES
Underbelly: Though their natural armor makes for solid defense from above, the underbelly of Jialgheer is soft and vulnerable. This is made worse by the difficulty they have flipping over once placed upon their back.
Bantha In An Atrisian China Shop: Jailgheer aren’t exactly clumsy per se, but they are very… Indelicate creatures due impart to their large size, prodigious weight and tendency to be careless with their surroundings. Without careful guidance, they will quite happily barrel through an obstacle rather than try to go around.
Dietary Requirements: While omnivorous on a whole, Jialgheer will quickly become sick without a regular intake of Pamarthen algae in its diet. This has severely limited their adoption further in land, as well as their ability to be transported and introduced off-world.
CULTURE
Diet: Omnivorous.
Communication: Jialgheer are a rather vocal species, communicating through a series of pulse-like sounds (distress), rumbles (pleased), bellows (courtship) and hisses (Anger/Intimidation) that cross into the infra-sonic frequency range.

General behavior:
Wild Jialgheer lived in small packs of around half a dozen or so members, forming close knit bonds within a family group through imprinting at an early age, a trait early Pamarthen settlers took advantage of during the domestication process. Equally comfortable on land or sea, Jialgheer packs were known for traversing vast distances in search for food, crossing entire island chains during times of need.
Despite their intimidating appearance and imposing stature, they were considered relatively peaceful and placid species, being seemingly content to simply plod (or swim) through their life from one meal to the next. Outside of their biennial mating season, the only recorded instances of aggression from the species arose when subjects were sufficiently starved, injured or were protecting members of its familial group. In all scenarios, the Jialgheer first attempted to utilize their tusks and considerable bulk gore and crush their opponents, moving in to bite and presumably consume once sufficiently subdued.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
'Statistically speaking, there’s only a dozen Jialgheer-related fatalities
per year for the whole of Pamarthe. If nothing else, that makes them
far safer than most Corellian freighters.'

- Excerpt from A Journey to Salt;
An Explorer’s Guide to Pamarthe.
Jialgheer are a species of marine reptiles that are native to Pamarthe’s rugged coastal regions, living in small colonies on the rocky shorelines where they primarily subsist on a diet of fish, algae and perhaps the occasional flock of unwary Storm Eun. Large, powerful and more than capable of eating a full grown human with but a handful of quick successive bites, it is unclear what settler had the bright idea and gumption to attempt to domesticate the species. Regardless if it was borne through lunacy or bravery, their relentless stamina and ability to traverse both rocky cliff faces and small open bodies of salt water proved to be a boon for the early Pamarthen settlers, allowing them to rapidly explore and colonize whole island chains during those early years.
Though modern repulsor vehicles have since taken over as the primary mode of transport on the planet, it is rare indeed to find a homesteader without at least a handful of Jialgheer to their name, with many forming close bonds with their large reptilian charges that have been built up over the course of countless generations.
