These machines are often sent into extreme environments with little chance of survival. Often the local flora and fauna itself is dangerous enough to damage or destroy to tough drones. Drone seventeen still has creases in its casing from the day a seventeen tonne five-horned taurados charged the crew and had to be met head on. Iestyn did not find this anywhere near as amusing or exhilarating as Veronika. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=14.6667px]Because of this, these drones are not programmed with any sort of personality. Even their appearance is designed to avoid personification. Each is a large, dark grey oblong with compartments for tools and scanners. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=14.6667px]Iestyn decided that it would be a nice change to have a droid with a bit more personality around so he purchased his mate a multifunction droid renowned for developing quirky personalities. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=14.6667px]The droid is a general purpose scientific model designed to handle delicate equipment. This version has been outfitted with a range of sensors, including the very large optical scanner that can magnify distant objects and holographically project them. It’s chest can be outfitted with different sensors and instruments and there is a small compartment for storing samples.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=14.6667px]In truth it isn’t meant to replace any of the drones they use. It actually functions more as a personal assistant for the pair. Iestyn is particularly forgetful and Veronika is easily distracted. It stays with them through most of the day and directly interfaces with their messaging/calendaring software, constantly acting as a secretary in the background. It can even answer holocalls on behalf of the pair and relay messages. This is useful when particularly borish professors call. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=14.6667px]There was a touch of paternal thought behind the purchase. The droid is almost a family pet, requiring frequent maintenance. Unable to take a biological pet on their missions, this was the closest Iestyn could get whilst still being fairly pragmatic about the purchase. K11c has a habit of complaining about its workload and commenting on their work and personal messages. Iestyn is often heard to rather loudly consider a wipe, but really he bought to droid to have something with more personality around. [/SIZE]
