As a non-Redditor, can you please explain what the situation with Pao is?

Er, Ellen Pao took the job of the previous CEO (Victoria Taylor I'm pretty sure) who was engaging with the community and set up AMAs (celebrity interviews and stuff). She then made salary changes non-negotiable for Reddit employees and banned some controversial subreddits ( /r/Gunsforsale I think) which incited the never ending hate of Reddit users (free speech and all). So after numerous petitions and a few popular sub-reddits shutting down (moderators getting angry) a 200k petition finally kicked her off.
