OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Formed in the latter stages of the Third Imperial Civil War, the Kainate Outriders are a division of the Grand Army Armor Corps which specializes in riding speeder bikes. The Outriders are defined by its well-trained, capable speeder bike pilots that harness their machines as extensions of their own bodies and as weapons in and of themselves. Pilots are typically drawn from IX-73a strand-casts who assess well for select personality characteristics, though they may also choose to serve in the Outriders of their own volition. Regardless, little distinction is made among recruits. All must undergo the demanding high-speed training program which must be passed in order to become an Outrider. The program includes training on speeder bike combat maneuvers, survival skills, marksmanship using speeder bike-mounted weapons, and yet more. Trainees begin on slower, downtuned speeder bikes which are used to build riding fundamentals before moving on to faster models as they pass certain qualifying benchmarks. Nevertheless, it goes without saying that Outrider training can be extremely deadly. Candidates have been known to die or sustain severe injuries while riding various obstacle courses, pushing beyond their own limits in order to reach a qualifying benchmark. The dangerous nature of the program also contributes to its high washout rates, but another factor is the fact that the equivalent of two years worth of material and training is crammed into three grueling months, though much of the learning is enhanced by the use of Synoptic teachers and Hypersleep Caskets.
While the Outriders were formed during the very last stages of the Third Imperial Civil War, the unit only took part in one battle during that conflict. Since then, the Outriders have have been utilized by the Kainate as a raiding unit, often during slave raids, piracy operations, and systematic raids. However, the unit was activated in force for the Battle of Tython, where it was utilized as a raiding force in support of the Kainate’s objectives on the field.
Outrider units are generally stationed and based on Malsheem and various large warships of the Kainate’s Shadow Armada. Refresher training is typically administered via simulations and Hypersleep Caskets, though they take every available opportunity to do live training in planetary environments where possible. It is not uncommon for the Outriders to establish temporary training outposts on various worlds. However, the Outriders maintain three permanent training bases on Remnicore, where many of the unit’s most infamous obstacle courses run through ancient Zeffo and Sith ruins, dangerous lava flows, fast, flowing plains, and most notoriously, across powerful Dark Side vergences which can induce vivid hallucinations in weak-willed pilots.
All in all, the Outriders are a versatile, well-trained speeder bike unit which breaks new ground in repulsor bike combat tactics, making them a formidable wildcard in the arsenal of the Kainate Grand Army.

- Intent: Write up a unit I’ve been using in RP but have never codified until now.
- Role: The Kainate Outriders are the IC unit which SF-3335 serves in. They are combat speeder bike pilots who are distinguished from typical biker scouts in that they use their machines as independent combat platforms in and of themselves, rather than as fast transports used solely for scouting or patrolling purposes. While this does not preclude them from being used in scouting or patrolling roles, it should be understood that these units utilize their bikes in a very direct capacity, similar to the relationship of a starfighter pilot with his or her starfighter. As such, they generally only fight on foot as a very last resort.

- Description: The Kainate Outriders are a division of the Army Armor Corps which specializes in piloting speeder bikes. Composed of intensely-programmed IX-73a strand-casts with the rare naturally-conceived officer, the Outriders are a disciplined, yet fanatically loyal military unit. They are ruthless and devoted to the point that they will unflinchingly carry out any directive in the name of the Eternal Father, the Dark Lord they venerate and serve without question. However, the unit also maintains an air of strict professionalism, setting them apart from the typical swoop thug or pirate biker. Accordingly, the Outriders have very little in common with criminal swoop gangs and consider such comparisons to be insulting. It should also be noted that the Outriders have tendency towards arrogance, as they consider themselves to be above fighter pilots due to the heightened risk and dangers associated with riding speeder bikes as compared to piloting fighters, which enjoy the protection of a hull and more often than not, energy shields.

- Combat Function: Trained in a variety of tactics and maneuvers, the Kainate Outriders utilize the versatility of their speeder bikes to fill a wide range of roles. Of particular note, they may be used as a harassing force to gradually wear down enemy forces, a leading element in aggressive shock attacks or hit-and-fade raids, as fire support by utilizing the weapons mounted on their bikes to take down enemies from range, as escort to larger, slower vehicles such as tanks and heavy walkers, and yet more. Ultimately, they are just as capable of operating independently as they are in performing as a supportive element in combined arms warfare.
- Specialized Pilots - Outriders are trained to ride speeder bikes to a competency not reached by the typical biker scout or foot soldier, since their bikes are utilized as a weapon in and of themselves. Pilots must pass demanding marksmanship tests with their bikes’ mounted weaponry while riding at fast speeds, learn various offensive and defensive maneuvers, communication practices, and yet more. While the ability to ride a speeder bike is not uncommon, Outriders focus their training around it, producing specialized speeder bike pilots that far outmatch the typical casual or transport rider.
- Wildcard - More often than not, the Outriders are the fastest units on a given battlefield. This makes them well-suited to hit-and-fade attacks and deep strikes targeting units behind enemy lines, allowing them to slip in and out of trouble at will, while also making it difficult for enemy commanders to keep tabs on their positions. Utilized wisely, the Outriders can represent a uniquely challenging factor for an opposing commander to account for.
- Firepower - Many of the speeder bikes utilized by the Outriders fill attack roles and are armed with light vehicle-grade weaponry that can pose a significant threat to infantry and vehicles.
- Fragile - The speeder bikes utilized by the Outriders lack shields and generally rate poorly pertaining to defensive characteristics. As such, the Outriders are vulnerable to small arms fire, necessitating that they stay out of direct, prolonged engagements since their ability to absorb fire is rather poor.
- Dismounted - Due to the low cargo capacity of their bikes, the Outriders only carry a pistol and light survival supplies on their person. As such, if dismounted from their craft for one reason or another, they will be quite vulnerable due to a dearth of firepower compared to typical foot soldiers
- Droid Support - The Outriders make extensive use of droids to support their operations. Maintaining many of these droids requires specialized personnel of which are not directly attached to the unit. As such, when operating independently, care must be taken to ensure that their droids are not run too hard in order to avoid excessive wear and tear.
