Appearance: Kal is tall (6’1”); he may look thin upon first inspection, but is athletic and toned. He has slightly tan skin, dark eyes and black hair. Due to Waverly’s insistence, he dresses quite fashionably, generally sticking to dark colors. Kal’s expressions are quite wooden, always solemn and serious.
Personality: It is his nature to be calm and collected, often appearing quite stern. Kal is not a people person, he dislikes being in large crowds, this makes his job watching over Waverly difficult at times. However, he will push his personal feelings aside; duty comes first. He is very loyal and devoted to his charge. Kal is quite reserved, he chooses to stay quiet and would rather fade into the background. He will never speak up against Waverly, but will make his opinions known via various frowns and looks of disapproval.
Weapon of Choice: Blaster Pistol and a Vibroblade
Wealth: Kal lives by the generous salary paid to him by the Dane Family, though one wouldn’t consider him to be wealthy. He sends most of his wages home to support his mother and younger siblings.
Combat Function: He is a decent marksman and skilled with a blade. He prefers fighting with a vibrorapier, but as it is not the most practical, he carries a vibroblade. Kal has been trained in martial arts, and can hold himself in a fight, but hand to hand combat is not one of his strong points. He may not be very physically strong, but makes up for what he lacks with agility and swiftness.
Skills: Classically trained Duelist, his skills with a vibrorapier translate to graceful, yet powerful use of a vibroblade. Standard martial arts and marksmanship training, but nothing terribly advanced.

Kal grew up on Dargul in a wealthy family that had ties with the Dane's. He received extensive training as a young man in the ways of a duelist, and worked hard to hone his skills with a vibrorapier. He had little interest in academics, but was a bright student nonetheless.
When Kal was 15 his father lost the family's fortune in a casino on Umgul. His family was forced to move out of their mansion and into a more modest home. It wasn't long until Kal's father deserted the family, leaving them struggling to make house payments. Kal grew up working a number of odd jobs to get by and help support his mother and two younger sisters.
Kal and Waverly have been close friends since childhood, and he has always had feelings for her. At one time Waverly's parents had considered Kal to be a future suitor for their daughter, but their opinion changed once his family's wealth was lost. He has always kept his feelings for Waverly private, contenting himself with being friends, as there was less chance of being pushed away. When the Dane family became the victims of kidnapping attempts, Kal began to train in martial arts and marksmanship to become Waverly's guard. While he was less skilled than the other applicants, and obviously not the first choice, Waverly demanded that Kal be chosen. She knew that he would work hard to protect her, and felt it would be nice to have a friend in such a close role.
Even though he may appear annoyed when Waverly bosses him around, he really doesn't mind. However, he does become a bit depressed when asked to escort her on dates. He does understand that Waverly will likely wed soon, and this has made him feel even more gloomy than usual.
