As a whole, the culture of Kalesia is as divided, and opposite, as Day and Night. The entire planet is separated by a mammoth wall, erected thousands of years prior to the present; and serves as a constant reminder of the racial wars of the past. North of this wall, home to the "native" Kalesians, society is as modern and advanced as Coruscant itself. Society is neatly organized into various castes based upon income, though any person has the ability to rise and fall throughout the castes based upon effort and ability. At the helm of this portion of Kalesian society is a Queen, who benevolently and fairly rules her people. Equality, freedom, peace, and principles from the ancient Jedi Order characterize the culture of the North.
On the other hand, the Luskans occupy the area south of the Great Wall. Their culture revolves around strength and skill in battle. Society is partitioned into two "castes": the Strong and the Weak. The Strong enjoy the benefits of lording over the Weak; with the Weak acting as laborers and servants for the Strong. Daily life revolves around training in various forms of combat and honing individual skill for triumph on the field of battle. War and aggression are the two characteristics which adequately describe southern culture. At the helm of this culture of warriors is the Chieftain, whose rule is absolute so long as he and his clan remain the strongest in comparison to their fellows.
TECHNOLOGY
On both sides of the Great Wall, technology exists in a moderately-high level. In the North, the technology level can easily rival that of Kamino or Coruscant with relative ease. The focus of these innovative technologies is generally everyday usage, utilities, and the like. The South's technology is a stark contrast and revolves around engines and tools of warfare. All in all, Kalesia's technological level is above average in comparison to those found across the Galaxy.
HISTORY
In the beginning, the denizens of Kalesia and its moon Luska knew peace. Thousands upon thousands of years prior to the present, both the Kalesian and Luskan species evolved from a common ancestor that populated the planet. However, some point over the course of this evolution, a portion of the species at the time migrated to the moon; and thereby did not evolve in Kalesia's natural, Force-rich environment. As time wore on, the native Kalesians grew to be a technologically-minded species with an excepionally strong connection to the Force; so strong that it was a rarity for a member of their species to be insensitive to the Force. On the other hand, their Luskan brethren were not as blessed with the Force's touch, though a small number of their population were proven to be Force sensitive.
Originally, the native Kalesians attempted to share their knowledge and growing technological advancements with their lunar brethren. However, conflict arose when, after having shown such benevolence, the native Kalesians attempted to exert dominance over the Luskans and pressure them into subservience. Thus the flames of war were sparked, for the Luskans were a species characterized by a single trait first and foremost: Pride. They converted the technologies granted to them by their Kalesian brethren into weapons of war and began a long and bloody conflict with their neighbors that spanned centuries. Eventually, a full-scale invasion of the planet was launched from Luska, and it seemed as though the war-hungry Luskans would overwhelm the native Kalesians.
In desperation, the natives devised a weapon of untold power, whose specifications and function are lost to the sands of time, and utilized it against Luska itself. The result was the utter annihilation of the moon and the near-genocide of the Luskan species. The only survivors were the warriors relentlessly waging war on the planet's surface. Furious and destraught that their home and people were destroyed, the surviving Luskans fought harder than ever before, to the point where it seemed that both the Kalesians and the Luskans would go extinct due to this war.
As such, a shaky peace was established through the construction of the Great Wall. The native Kalesians agreed to surrender the territory that the Luskans had gained over the course of the war, which amounted to approximately half of the planet, in exchange for an end to the violence. This shaky peace has since then endured countless generations to the present day, where a defined hatred exists between the Luskans and the Kalesians.
