Description: The Kalidor is designed to act as a highly mobile platform to scout out and probe enemy positions in light skirmishes. To this end, the Kalidor is built on a light frame of ferrocarbon and its components are protected by ferroceramic as a weight-saving measure. This armor trades some durability for increased fuel economy, speed, and maneuverability. But the frame does not lend itself well to incorporating heavy weapons. Instead, it carries a pair of autoblasters right in front of the cockpit, which fires more but individually weaker bolts than the typical laser cannon. It's sole heavy armament is an ion torpedo launcher, designed to quickly delay and cripple opponents rather than outright destroy destroy them. But some more aggressive Kalidor pilots will use the ion torpedo to disable other ships for capture or to more easily destroy them by grinding them with streams of autoblaster bolts. All of this alone would have made the Kalidor an lackluster interceptor somewhat lagging in flight performance, except for its superb avionics.
The Kalidor's sensor package is significantly stronger than that of typical fighters, though it is not quite comparable to that of dedicated scout ships. The Kalidor uses this sensitive package to record and note fine details on its enviroments, which is recorded onto expanded memory units, allowing Kalidors to bring back detailed data on the opposition before engaging the main enemy fleet. In pitched battles, when not acting as typical interceptors, Kalidors often immediately stream the supplemental data from their sensors to aid in providing more accurate targeting data at closer ranges to their host ships; oftentimes to offset defensive electronic defensive countermeasures. The other main difference in the Kalidor's avionics is a built-in autopilot feature, which is handy for the ship making longer treks to the front to scout out the enemy without having to tax the pilot. The same reason accounts for the ship's somewhat larger extended range compared to typical interceptors.
Lucerne Labs is offering the vessel on the open market, though it will not sell the starship to persons or organizations that it knows has values which clash with its own. While Lucerne Labs' chief engineer, Salmakk, hoped to sell many to the Galactic Republic, he has found the ship has run into stiff opposition from interceptors already established within the Republic Fleet. Partially, this is because the Kalidor, while still reasonably maneuverable for a starfighter, isn't as maneuverable as many of its peers. Still, because of its reconnaissance abilities, he expects to sell a small but steady stream of the vessels to the Galactic Republic fleet. While the Kalidor remains a useful scout fighter, it will also likely find a popularity with bounty hunters and law enforcement agencies, where the ship's high speed, detailed sensors, and ion torpedoes make it ideal for hunting down and capturing small starships to capture live targets and undamaged cargo.
