Kalzok
Dark Thaumaturge, Loremaster of the Sith
Kalzok is an oddity even amongst the Sith. Uninterested in politics, conquest, or indulgence, Kalzok is first and foremost a scholar: a scholar of the deep and the eldritch, lore forbidden even to the Sith. Raised among a cabal of Sith sorcerers, Kalzok was a quick study and easily slew his old master several years into his apprenticeship, taking his place and his resources. As with all Sith, delving into the arcane arts was an obsession, and his research soon brought him into contact with the numerous tombs and fragments of lore that were scattered across the Galaxy. However, there was one other avenue of research that many other Sith ignored which Kalzok instead found himself drawn too: competing Dark Side traditions unrelated or heretical to the Sith. Whether due to ignorance or arrogance, many Sith loremasters only gave minor or obscure non-Sith traditions only a cursory glance. For Kalzok, however, they soon became his obsession.
Even as the Sith Empire waxed and waned, Kalzok rarely concerned himself with such matters, spending his time traveling the Galaxy and spending months or years at a time with the many Force sects that dotted the Galaxy. Attentive and inquisitive, Kalzok was uncharacteristically open-minded in absorbing the teachings of these groups, and before he even knew it, had become something of an expert in the field among the Sith. Status, of course, drew jealousy and attention and soon other Loremasters were doing their best to steal his research, with some even attempting to have him branded a traitor and his property legally seized. Kalzok was forced to cultivate allies and semi-disciples of sorts to protect his property, and in the end it pushed Kalzok to spend even more time abroad, rarely visiting his official residence in Sith space, preferring to stash his research on dead worlds or on his ship.
Thus it was that when the end came for the Sith Empire, Kalzok was holed up somewhere in the Outer Rim meditating with sentient slime mold. When news finally reached him, he was far more concerned with his research and property still in the Empire. While significant portions were lost or looted, enough remained that he did not have to start from zero. Kalzok's few ties with semi-legal artifact auctions also allowed him to set up a front company to bring in money to fund his now-independent operations. In the past few years he has taken in with the Heathen Priests, fascinated by their parallel Sith cultural evolution.
Roleplay summary
In the years leading up to the Splintering of the Sith, Kalzok gathered a power base among the remaining scattered Lorekeepers and their servants. Left to his own devices, the Loremaster gathered a veritable hoard of artifacts and treasure, uncharacteristically joining in several artifact-hunting expeditions with other Sith of the scattered Order and reconnecting with his peers. Shortly before the Obliteration of Odavessa Kalzok was recalled to that last bastion of the Sith for instructions, and found himself caught up in the ensuing conflagration. At great cost, Kalzok managed to survive with the aid of his companions and retainers, and underwent an as-yet-undocumented transformation process. In its aftermath, Kalzok is now a wraith of his former self, with little of his past personality apparent. Apart from requiring constant Dark Side rituals to maintain the tenuous hold of his soul and body to the mortal real, Kalzok's priorities have shifted, and throwing his lot in with the Tsis'Kal, corraling what resources he still had under his disposal such as the remains of the Sith-Imperial Historic Conservation Society, the Null Legion, Seekers and what remained of his artifact hoard towards Darth Ophidia's cause.
