- Independent: Not reliant on pre-established factory settings or protocols installed by their owners, Kankoshis are very independent androids capable of establishing effective and time-efficient care plans for their patients based on limitations (Such as budgetary, prioritisation or equipment) set by their owner. Where biological nurses would struggle with limits placed upon them by their superiors for how to best treat their patients, a Kankoshi combines the mathematical approach of a droid with the empathetic approach of a human.
- Comforting: Where conventional medical droids are cold, metallic and unfeeling or at worst creepy. Kankoshi droids have been specifically designed to appear, sound and behave in a caring and comforting way. With a long list of voice options for owners to choose from and even customizable faces for either a group of Kankoshis or each individual one, which can be ordered for a small additional fee before delivery. Kankoshis excel at interacting with their patients, biological coworkers and patient families.
- Efficient/Cost Effective: Unlike a biological nurse, a Kankoshi does not require bathroom breaks or lunch breaks, nor does it require time to go home or sleep. Kankoshis do not suffer from psychological stress, sleep deprivation or panic, nor can they be infected by contagious pathogens, allowing them to work closely with sick patients. So long as they can care for patients they do not care about work conditions and do not need to be paid wages. Along with this they are leagues ahead in the area of time efficiency and one Kankoshi can treat thrice the number of patients that their biological counterpart could.
WEAKNESSES
- Defenseless: Built with civilian settings in mind, the Kankoshi is not intended for any kind of frontline military application and cannot be used as a field medic. Entirely defenseless both in practical combat programming and in-built armaments, the closest a Kankoshi could safely be deployed to a warzone would be at a field hospital behind the lines, in a situation where the lives of their patients were directly threatened, a Kankoshi could attempt to physically defend them, but it would be of little use.
- Not Doctors: At their core, Kankoshis are not designed to be doctors, that role is for the Tōkei-series. Whereas a conventional medical droid could fill both roles (Albeit to a far lesser extent in both regards, NKMedical would claim) a Kankoshi is first and foremost a nursing android. Intended for the maintenance of a patient's quality of life, ensuring they are healthy in bed along with the necessary logistics, paperwork and interaction with both the patient and their family. Kankoshis keep a hospital running, but they are not doctors.
The Kankoshi Nurse Android otherwise known simply as Kankoshi is an advanced medical android developed and manufactured by Nakaioma Medical. A blend of two separate droid classifications, the Kankoshi was designed to fulfil a combination of medical and social functions as a biological nurse would, leading to its fusion of the First and Third Degree categories of conventional droid design. Constructed primarily from synthskin and biofiber materials, the Kankoshi is also supported by a permasteel skeleton, transparisteel casing along the arms and neck, and a variety of Fukashi-brand cybernetics intended for biological organisms in most cases, with some examples including N5 optical implants and YK body plating, with these cybernetics being entwined with the synthetic biological material used to construct the rest of the body.
In the Kankoshi's mind rests the crown jewel of Nakaioma Medical's limited expansion into the market of virtual intelligence, machine learning and even some resemblance of artificial intelligence. Fully capable of dynamically responding to biological organisms' actions and words, the Kankoshi's social functions are vast and precisely detailed at the same time, designed to provide comfort and reassurance to patients, Kankoshi's are known for the touching empathic and sympathetic sentiments they convincingly express towards those they are charged with treating. Though inevitably due to their android nature a minority still report the uncanny valley effect, Nakaioma Medical in the design of the Kankoshi's aesthetics has made no effort to hide their artificial nature, stating that it is more comforting for one to know what they are dealing with than to be left wondering whether their nurse was biological or not.
Full access to the NKMedical database allows the Kankoshi androids to diagnose countless tens of thousands of illnesses and injuries across hundreds of sentient and even non-sentient (With the Veterinarian programming expansion which can be purchased for an additional fee.) species. Intended to be the supporting staff of the more medically advanced Tōkei-series of medical android, the Kankoshis are not as sophisticated in their medical programming as their physician-focused counterpart, and have a large portion of their processing power dedicated towards their unique social functions. In the medical field they are most effective in the maintenance of a patient's quality of life much like a biological nurse, but unlike their biological counterparts do not require breaks or even time off work, this combined with their time efficiency capabilities allows only a small number of Kankoshis to effectively look after an entire medcenter of patients around the clock. They are also able to independently organize care plans based on parameters given to them by their owners and interact with the families of patients.
