MASTER GUNSLINGER Masterfully fast and accurate with dual blasters at close and medium range. ADVANCED RIFLEMAN Very skilled and accurate with a blaster rifle at medium and long range. TECHNOLOGY BUFF Loves using technology to his advantage and is always looking for new gear and tech that can give him an upper edge. EX-MANDALORIAN Was tutored by a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter and became a Mandalorian for a few years, receiving a lot from the culture. EX-BOUNTY HUNTER Was an incredibly successful bounty hunter and was a respected member of the bounty hunters guild for many years. STRATEGIST Kardek lives in a world of ever shifting possibilities and outcomes. His strategic mind allows for him to develop multi-phase plans that turn his ideas into tangible results. VISIONARY He perceives reality through the lens of what will be, often being driven by a vision of the future even when current situations seem to be at odds with it. This is a powerful strength as it allows for him to pioneer his own reality when others might not even see the possibility, however it can be very frustrating for others around him who are more pragmatic. It can also cause depression for Kardek if his visions fail to ever materialize. CHARISMATIC A natural-born leader who draws people to his cause, he is always aware of the people around him and champions them in their strengths. QUICK THINKER Although Kardek's ultimate agendas are difficult for Him to let go of, the path to accomplishing them is like a constantly shifting path. When a door closes, he finds a window. He is able to quickly adapt to hiccups and roadblocks that might emerge. ALPHA (IG-88) Controls IG-88 Droid through active neural link made possible through cybernetic implant in Kardek's brain. CYBERNETIC Due to life-saving cybernetic implants, Kardek has chosen to continue down this path of technological enhancement, installing advanced modules that provide him with a variety of unique benefits. | ALPHA (IG-88) While this is a strength in many regards, it is also a massive weakness as Kardek would die within minutes if the neural connection was ever severed. HACKABLE His cybernetic implants are potentially vulnerable to highly-skilled slicers. EMP'S his enhanced cybernetic implants can be susceptible to electro magnetic pulses. FORCE USERS Force users have an obvious advantage over him as he is not force sensitive. BLUNT Quick to speak his mind and it can get him into trouble. EMOTIONALLY CHARGED While sometimes considered a strength, Kardek is often driven by strong emotions (specifically anger) that can have massive impacts on his relationships and objectives, for better or for worse. DOMINEERING Accustom to leading teams of operatives, Kardek tends to take charge in situations, which can sometimes make him appear bossy and controlling. He has no qualms with telling people what they should do and how they should do it. STRONG WOMEN (VICE) He is attracted to beautiful women who are determined and can hold their own, and can be potentially manipulated or deceived by them. He is also often generous in his dealings with these types of women. ALCOHOL (VICE) Kardek wrestles with demons from his past, and it is difficult for him to process defeat or failure well. He tends to drink to dull his regrets and strong emotions, but this habit can grow excessive when struggling with depression or failure. |
BEGINNINGS
Kardek was raised by his father, a spaceship mechanic, in the outer rim. He grew up helping his dad work on engines, weapons, hyperdrives, droids, and pretty much anything else you could imagine. As a young boy, Kardek's hero's were the smugglers, bounty hunters, and mercenaries that frequented his dads shop. He dreamed of becoming a bounty hunter himself one day with his very own ship, traveling the galaxy and getting the bad guys. He always had a knack for building and repairing things that had landed in his dads junk pile. It was at the age of 12 that he constructed his first functioning blaster, which was a significant moment for young Kardek. He would spend hours out in the dunes shooting at womp rats or junked speeders, honing his skills and pushing his own boundaries. His dad often encouraged him to focus his skills instead on the family business, but Kardek was drawn to the dream of a life filled with adventure and danger.
One day, a Mandalorian bounty hunter named Droken, who often frequented their shop, approached his father about some significant repairs he needed for his hyperdrive. They pulled the ship into the hanger and began to work on the ship, just like they always did. Kardek’s father motioned for his son to fetch them some lunch, so he left his father inside the ship and made his way outside to the local food vendor. Kardek grabbed the usual grub and slapped down the coins, but as he turned to head back, he saw a strange looking man running franticly from their hangar bay entrance. Kardek froze for a split second, very confused and unsure of what was happening, but suddenly blaster fire erupted from right behind him. Kardek dove head first to the ground, covering his head and dropping the food. When he picked his head up from the sand, he saw the strange man lying dead in the street and Droken running quickly to the hangar. A knot quickly formed in his stomach as the fear of what might have happened to his father sunk in. “NO!” He screamed as he flung himself to his feet and dashed to the hangar to see Droken standing at the cargo doors of his ship looking inside silently. Kardek’s eyes were wide and his heart somewhere in the pit of his stomach as he ventured trembling to the bounty hunters side. There lay his father on the cargo bay floor, facing upward, with one of his own tools shoved deep inside of his chest. Droken peered down through his helmet at the young, grieving boy. He paused for a few moments, almost unsure of what to do next, before finally placing his hand upon his shoulder and says with his gruff voice,
“You are my responsibility now Kardek.”
THE MANDALORIAN BOUNTY HUNTERS
Years passed as Kardek was brought up in the bounty hunter trade under the leadership of Droken. Every bounty Droken pursued was Kardek’s own personal training ground. The two developed a very strong bond, and Droken began to teach him the Mandalorian Code and culture. Kardek eventually decided to take the oath himself, and he become a Mandalorian in Droken’s footprints. Droken helped him in obtaining his own Mandalorian armor, and the two of them continued for many years within the Bounty Hunters guild and within their shared code and religion as brothers.
As they both grew in reputation, they began to take more and more Imperial jobs. The pay was excellent, and there never seemed to be a lack of imperial targets. They formed a bigger team, adding an IG-88 Assassin Droid and another bounty hunter named Galdo. This allowed for them to hit targets that no one else could get to, and the Imperials took great interest in their team because of this. They found themselves standing before Sith and Emperial Generals who were giving them the biggest marks on their hit lists, which also coincided with massive pay days. The team was in its prime, hunting down rebellion commanders, spies, governmental influencers and officials, and any other major targets that the Imperials deemed to be their biggest threats. But all of this was secretly bringing strong disillusionment to Kardek. Their targets no longer appeared to be the bad guys… instead, they were working for the bad guys… he had become the bad guy, killing the innocent and those who were trying to make a positive difference in the galaxy. The rest of the team seemed almost drunk on their success, but Kardek struggled with thinking that the money had strongly affected his mentor and friend Droken in a very negative way. He had become bloodthirsty, and in a way that seemed very much beyond the Mandalorian code... at least from what Kardek had ever understood the code to be.
THE BREAKING POINT
The team was on another target from a high-ranking imperial general. The mark was a politician and activist on a nearby core planet. They were instructed to not bring the target back alive. Kardek blasted through the front door of the large estate right as Droken smashed through the windows into the living room. The Assassin droid had already made quick work of the small security detail out front, and there were only a few guards to take care of inside. Kardek and Galdo blasted their way through the hallway and smashed into the politicians chambers. The woman they found inside instantly fell to the ground with her hands trembling in the air, fear filling her face as she looked at the intruders with wide eyes. She couldn’t have been older than 25. Her young daughter clung tightly to her leg, crying fervently and shaking with fear. All four members of the team surrounded her, blasters drawn and aimed right at the woman. She pleaded with them to please let her daughter not see her die, but Droken responded to her request by pointing his blaster at her daughter instead and…
ZAPP
The woman screamed in agony as she desperately tried to grasp her daughters lifeless body before it hit the ground, holding her in her arms and crying with everything she had. It happened so suddenly.
“DROKEN!” Kardek yelled out in frustration and anger. Droken turned to him immediately and commanded for him to kill the woman. Kardek stared at the woman, feeling deep anger, guilt, and confusion for the whole situation. He had done many horrible things in his life... He was not sure why this time it was any different, but maybe it was just the final straw that broke the camels back.
“Kill her Kardek, or I swear I will end you right here!” Droken shouted as he pointed his blaster at Kardek. The tension inside of Kardek had finally built up to the breaking point. He slowly holstered his blasters and brought his hands up to his helmet, grabbing the sides.
“What the hell are you doing? Your a Mandalorian, don’t you dare…” Droken’s words trailed off as Kardek slowly lifted the helmet off of his head. He brought it down with one arm, resting it against his side. Kardek's face was filled with ever kind of emotion possible. Droken slowly lowered his weapon, seemingly becoming aware of what he had become as he found himself looking again upon the face of that once-young boy whom he had taken under his wing so many years ago. The assassin droid raised its weapon at the woman again to end her life, but Kardek reacted by pulling his blaster with his free hand and shooting the droid through the head, sending it crumbling to the ground. Galdo, shocked at the turn of events, pointed his blaster at Kardek and fired. Droken quickly reacted by turning and shooting Galdo in the chest. Galdo, eyes wide and full of confusion, slowly fell to his knees, grabbing at his chest, before collapsing to the ground dead. The woman, in the midst of all of this, continued weeping over the dead child in her arms, ignoring the commotion. Droken looked at Kardek, seeing the wound in his head from Galdo’s blaster. Kardek, dazed, stumbled backwards. Droken grabbed him and said in his gruff voice;
“You’re still my responsibility Kardek.”
REBORN
Kardek slowly began to open his eyes. As the drugs began to wear off, he realized he was on a medical table of some kind. He looked over and saw the IG-88 Assassin droid he had shot standing motionless next to him. He pulled away quickly, but a strong hand grabbed his shoulder. It was Droken. Droken had abandoned their target and brought Kardek to an advanced underground medical facility. The damage to Kardek’s brain was significant, but with most of his savings, Droken had decided to invest it in some highly experimental (and highly expensive) procedures in an attempt to save Kardek's life. They installed a cybernetic implant into his brain, and this allowed for a neural link to be made with the IG-88 droid. In essence, the droid had become and extension of Kardek, and he needed the droid to stay alive. Kardek and Droken both knew that they could never go back to the bounty hunters guild after failing to take out their mark, and that surely the Imperials would be coming after them. They both said their goodbyes and parted ways, looking for some sense of personal redemption and a new path forward in the galaxy.
