Strengths:
  • Expansive: Karideph Collective Shipyard is an exceptionally large facility both in its internal factories and its external yards. This allows it to efficiently produce large numbers of parts and small ships, as well allow the construction of some of the largest ships native to the Minos Cluster.

  • Local Expertise: KCS was designed specifically to house local Kari workers and their hives, and much of the onboard equipment is specifically designed for their physiology, which only enhances their natural mechanical abilities. Similarly, the onboard repair hangar is staffed with mechanics who are familiar with local space hazards and conditions, particularly the Kathol Rift, and can help outfit craft to better adapt to those conditions.
Weaknesses:
  • Almost Immobile: KCS is almost immobile, having thrusters that can only slowly adjust its orbit to avoid collisions or other large, but predictable hazards. It is has no hyperdrive, and it would require significant time and money to relocate the yard.

  • Toothless: KCS is very lightly armed, sporting a small number of point defenses to help ward off small craft raids. It largely relies on defensive starfighters carried in its hangar and other nearby starships to protect it.
Description: The Karideph Collective Shipyard is a joint investment between Lucerne Labs and the Karideph government designed to produce and outfit ships for the unique conditions of the local area. Karideph is located at the end of the heavily trafficked Rimma Trade Route and at the start of the Trition Trade Route, which enters the perilous Kathol Rift. The Kathol Rift is known producing frequent energy discharges which scrambles electronics and makes them unreliable, causing many native ships to use bulky fluidic systems. Sensing a potential niche market for their organoform circuitry, which is inherently resistant to these problems, Lucerne Labs negotiated the establishment of a local facility to make ships specifically outfitted with their technology for the Kathol Rift.

The resulting partnership fuses native Kari workers' mechanical know-how with the innovative technology from Lucerne Labs to produce a variety of starships well-suited to meet the region's needs. The Kari run the bulk of the station's internal manufacturing bays and workshops, aided by automated machine tools and specialist droid workers. Each hatch typically runs its own workshop or assembly line, which under the collective guidance of Lucerne Labs and government personnel result in fully finished starships. Most of KCS is oriented to making smaller ships such as light freighters and transports, but the main facility is flanked by a pair of external slipways where larger ships can be modified or produced by components manufactured by KCS. KCS also is home to several large hangars where local starship garages can modify or repair ships going into or out of the Rift.
