SPECIAL FEATURES

• Modifications: Karl has modified this blaster to Coruscant and back. Below details the most important modifications.
  • Fire Modes: Unlike the original Relby-k23 which was a dedicated stinger pistol, Karl's modification adds a lethal mode of fire.
  • Gas Canister: Karl has modified his blaster's gas canister to house high-quality Ethaerium X gas from HPI. This means that this blaster's bolts are transparent.
  • Metallic Transmutation: Karl has swapped out the old frame and barrel of his k23 for several higher-quality metals.
    • The upper frame has been replaced with Duranium for its lightweight strength and glancing lightsaber resistance.
    • The lower frame and barrel have been replaced with Ersteel SLCA for its lightness, EMP/ION, and thermal resistance.
    • The pistol grip has been fitted with Polyplast, a shockproof material. Additionally, the pistol grip is specifically fitted to Karl's hand reducing the recoil sharpness of the weapon and increasing overall accuracy.
  • XCiter and Actuating Blaster Module: The XCiter module allows the user to regulate how much of the excited gas goes into the actuating blaster module, allowing the user to change how much power is behind each blast. The Actuating Blaster Module increases shot power and penetration.
  • Optics: Karl's k23 has also been equipped with the FAE/S-08 Small Arms Optical System, specifically the 1-5x option.
  • Holster: Karl's k23 has a custom leg-mounted synth leather holster with duranium buckles and Gription to hold the weapon without the risk of it falling out.

STRENGTHS

• Lightweight: Due to the combination of metals Karl's k23 is much lighter than the standard model.
• Light Recoil: The custom pistol grip reduces recoil sharpness, meaning the weapon does not jerk upward as much. This is because the recoil is better distributed through the custom grip.
• Variable Power and Penetration: The XCiter allows the weapon to increase or decrease its power and the Actuating Blaster Module increases the weapon's overall penetration.
• Transparent Blaster Bolts: The choice of using Ethaerium X gas gives this weapon a unique advantage against lightsaber wielders as transparent bolts are harder to see and deflect.

WEAKNESSES

• Maintenance Nightmare: Because of the unique modifications, maintenance on this k23 is long and painful.
• Wear and Tear: The XCiter and Actuating Blaster Module wears out the weapon faster when used and even quicker when improperly used, for example when overcharging a bolt with the XCiter.
• Long Charge Time: Karl is not as fast as he used to be, so he deliberately made the recharge time between trigger pulls longer, decreasing the rate of fire for the weapon, but giving him time to aim.

DESCRIPTION
When Karl first received his Relby-k23 from his sister, Erika, as a Naval Academy graduation gift, it was already an antique. However, it was one of Karl's favorite designs, so of course his sister went out of her way to track one down and buy it for him. It stayed with him throughout his service with the First Order, and well into his privateering/pirate hunter days. It wasn't until his sister's death that Karl decided to retire the pistol. He placed it in the velvet-lined box that she gave it to him in and placed it amongst his things in his office on the Duchess.

Years later he had thought it lost until he was moving his office from the Duchess to the Nucleus. When he found it he was overjoyed but wrought with the emotions he felt when his sister sacrificed herself to make sure he and his son could live. He couldn't bring himself to use it but chose to display it in his new office.

After the Battle of Maldra IV where he lost his leg, he thought back to his days in service to the First Order, he had never had as bad luck as he did at that point. So he thought and thought, and decided he needed something to serve as a good luck charm, so he turned to the pistol he received as a gift from Erika. When he took it out of the box, it was in bad shape; it was patinaed and the internals were a mess, so he did what he does best and began engineering replacement parts.

He used his connections with N&Z, HPI, and FAE to get him some of the best parts in his side of the galaxy and fully repaired his gift. He gave it the moniker of 'modification E' the 'E' standing for his sister's name Erika. He now wears it proudly, lucky to have his sister, on his hip.
