Karpel Excaan
C.E.O. of Standard Coaxium
Karpel Excaan
NAME: Karpel Excaan
FACTION: Standard Coaxium
RANK: C.E.O.
SPECIES: Pyke
AGE: 53
SEX: Male
HEIGHT: 2.05 meters
WEIGHT: 95 kilograms
EYES: Light Blue
SKIN: Grey-green
FORCE SENSITIVE: No
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
Business Minded: Excaan is an excellent businessperson. He is also good at predicting how deals will go, and the direction of the Galactic Economy.
Sharp Witted: Pulling one over on Excaan is very difficult, and he is always paying attention to his surroundings.
Veteran: Thanks to his travels on Zodasia, Excaan has seen plenty of adventure in his life, and knows his way around dangerous situations.
Rich: Being the C.E.O. of the Galaxy’s main supplier of Coaxium means that Excaan always has credits to spare.
Moral Standards: There are certain lines that Karpel will simply not cross. He disassociates himself from the more amoral practices of the Pyke Syndicate, such as slavery and murder. This causes some of the other members of the Syndicate to consider him an enemy, but it has also given him a reputation as a reputable and honest businessperson among outsiders.
Aging: Excaan is not as strong and flexible as he used to be, and is starting to have back problems.
Holds Grudges: While he tries not to, Excaan naturally holds grudges against people who make real or perceived insults towards him.
Fear Of Jedi: Excaan is naturally distrustful and paranoid around Jedi, thanks to an unfortunate incident in his youth.
APPEARANCE: Karpel Excaan is a mostly nondescript looking Pyke, with the exception of his piercing, blue eyes. In terms of clothing, he wears a standard Pyke mask and helmet, and a grey cloak, with blue highlights.
BIOGRAPHY:
Karpel Excaan was born on the planet Oba Diah, to a deadbeat father who left him and his mother shortly after his birth. His mother did her best to take care of him, but it was not easy. Karpel had a mischievous streak from an early age, and would often wander off in search of rocks to add to the collection he kept in his room. His favorite rocks were the ones that he could find unique uses for, such as flint’s ability to start fires.
Karpel’s tendency to wander off eventually developed into a thirst for adventures off-planet. When he was 19, he said goodbye to his mother, and joined a crew of surveyors exploring the planet Zodasia. The crew faced a wide variety of challenges, ranging from wild animals to rogue security droids. During these travels Karpel picked up some good life experiences, and learned many new skills. When he came back to Oba Diah, he had already lived a full life, but decided that he did not want to live a “normal” life just yet.
Karpel decided to go into the mining business on Kessel, due to his interest in useful minerals. Using his generous payment from the explorers, he purchased a Coaxium mine on Kessel and started the company Standard Coaxium. He decided to focus on mining Coaxium, as he did not want to live up to the negative “spice dealer” stereotypes outsiders held towards his species. He also did not use slave labor in his mine, which set him apart from his competitors. His Coaxium mine was surprisingly profitable, and he used these profits to buy a Coaxium refinery, and eventually form a distribution chain. This vertical monopoly allowed him to begin selling Coaxium at much lower prices than his competitors. From here, it was only a matter of time before Standard Coaxium had a monopoly over Coaxium.
Standard Coaxium eventually fell under the control of the Pyke Syndicate. While Karpel was very displeased about this, it was ultimately the best choice for the company. If it had continued to operate independently, the Syndicate would have come to see it as a threat to their power, and violently disbanded it. If nothing else, it came with the added benefit of protection against pirate raids.
Nowadays, Karpel continues to run Standard Coaxium with the same standards he always has, but with his new bosses, life just isn’t as simple anymore.
