+Telekinetic: Like her father, Kate has a strong affinity for telekinesis. She is more precise in her usage of the art than Mikhail, but lacks the raw strength.
+Photokinetic Illusionist: She also inherited a trait from her mother. Primarily, skill with illusions. Photokinetic illusions are not the same as mental illusions. No mental delving is required as the practice of this art is to literally bend the light in such a way as to create illusions, thus altering perception rather than a state of mind. She can also manipulate sound waves in addition to light waves.
-Cold: Though not as outrightly hostile as her last name might suggest, Katya frequently gives off an appearance of chilling indifference.

After the death of her parents, Mikhail Shorn and Andra Sivas, newly born Katya was whisked away on the Sumat by Bucket with the assistance of Lucien Cordel far off to the other side of the galaxy, out of reach of the Lords of the Fringe. She was raised primarily by the butler droid, but after a time Bucket's programming recognized a need for her education to be expanded. He hid in the Chiloon Rift for some time, eventually settling in the Bubble of the Lost. By his calculations the children would be better able to preserve themselves against outside threats the older they were, thus the immediate task at hand was to age them quickly.
Inside the Chiloon Rift, they experienced a ratio of five years to every one year on the outside. They spent two years by the rest of the galaxy's time inside that rift. A lonely existence, broken only by sporadic interactions with miners and families of miners.
At the age of ten, Bucket took her to the Mandalorians, while her brother was sent off elsewhere. She grew up, adopted among members of the Skirata clan.
True to their last wishes, Bucket did not reveal the nature of her parents until Kate discovered it for herself. She found Mikhail Shorn's holocron and successfully activated it, but rather than giving her sage advice it merely mocked and infuriated her. Eventually the fact that she was the daughter of Mikhail Shorn leaked out. The Mandalorians were less than pleased to find out that they'd been raising the daughter of the Thronebreaker. Those of them still alive from the era of war between the Mandalorians and Moridin's Sith Empire well remembered him.
Horrified at the discovery, fourteen year old Katya fled the Mandalorians of her own accord, leaving behind all her friends. They called her a dar'manda.
She'd set a course for the Lords of the Fringe, determined to learn the truth, but her ship was ambushed by pirates and easily captured. This proved a mistake for the pirates. Disciples of Twilight came and attacked the pirate vessel, saving Katya from a cruel end. They offered to teach her the ways of the Force if she would stay with them.
Their sense of 'shadow justice' appealed to her and she readily agreed before sending Bucket off to go find Lucien.
Two years among the Disciples found her a different woman at the age of sixteen. Confident and in command of a privateering vessel, she roamed the area of space where the Moross Crusade had been most active, occasionally assisting Aing-Tii in fighting off slavers. Her knowledge of her father was satisfied with a simple search of the holonet to reveal his atrocities. She wants nothing of his legacy, though she still carries his name.
Eventually she took her slightly piratical crew to the Chiloon Rift in search of her brother. Unable to find him there she moved to Levantine Sanctum space, where she currently helps the anarchist state by patrolling its borders.
Kate Shorn, after being captured by Tyrin Ardik on Belgaroth, was given a class IV amnesiac and sent to Jared Ovmar. Once they had discovered who she was, Ovmar decided to settle old grudges. Neither Sith Lord knew if Mikhail was truly dead, but they figured it wouldn’t hurt to have an ace in the back pocket. So, Ovmar implanted a bionic chip in her brain to give him control over her, much in the same way that Tyrin put a chip in his clone, Gerion. It is not total control and for the most part, Kate will go about as if nothing had ever happened. But a suggestion from Ovmar is as much as a command that she cannot help but follow. Her brain, forced to forget, has categorized Ovmar as a shadowy benefactor to the Heralds of Chaos. Employing them under the title of a shell corporation as a privateering group. Using them to dispose of his enemies.
And, eventually, turning Kate against the people she calls friends.

Mikhail learned of what they'd done and confronted the Sith Lords on their flagship. In the ensuing struggle, Kate's biochip activated and she ran her father through the stomach with her light foil. Before he perished, Mikhail destroyed the biochip and set her free.
Somehow, she managed to escape the ship. Confused and fueled by her own self-hatred, she returned to her crew. The Heralds of Chaos took on a darker cast. No longer did they seek to take ships without casualty, instead targeting First Order vessels in increasingly violent raids. On the last raid, Kate sought to capture imperial politico Natasi Fortan, but the mission went awry and she was captured.
