WEAKNESSES
Hear Me, Baby, Hold Together: The cost of such high performance, the Reprisal is very temperamental once it has been damaged. Systems have been known to fail in a cascading effect that has caused more than one vessel to go dark.
Don’t Get Cocky: Those stealth features might be sweet, many of them require the vessel to travel at below average speeds in order to be effective. They are also hard to explain should they be detected while active. While several steps have been taken to make the vessel difficult to detect while cloaked, certain countermeasures (technological and force based) do exist.
A Real Short Trip: As a trade off for the sudden burst of speed it offers, utilizing the SLAM drive requires power to be drawn from the weapon systems, as well as placing a great deal of strain on the engines. As a result, it really should be a last resort and even then used sparingly.
DESCRIPTION
Almost considered an off-the-books project, indeed appearing only a handful of times in official ledgers simply under the heading Triple Zero, the Reprisal-Class is KDY’s attempt to deliver a vessel specifically for covert and clandestine operations. To ensure utmost discretion throughout, it was even classified internally, with only few key design leads being aware, much less involved in its design. Construction was further carried out in an undisclosed, fully automated and unmanned shipyard specifically commissioned for the project.
Resembling a vibrodagger in profile, while long the Reprisal is a surprisingly narrow vessel, allowing it to slip through even the tiniest cracks in a blockade. This is aided by a very powerful set of engines and robust thrusters that allow it to dart in and out with both speed and maneuverability. Whilst in flight, the distinctive open configuration of the S-Foils causes it to appear similar to the letter resh, earning it the sub-designation as an ‘R-Wing’.
True to its classification, the vessel comes fully armed and ready for war. A matched pair of pulse cannons are mounted at the bow, flanking a variable payload flextube launcher, with heavy duty solar ionization cannons being set on port and starboard turrets. This is rounded off with a rear-mounted missile launcher that has been outfitted with GSI interdiction missiles to dissuade otherwise hinder any attempts of pursuit. While not strictly classified as a weapon for ship-to-ship purposes, the vessel also incorporates a ventral mounted, downward facing null-burst projector for clearing out any hot landing zones it happens to be running into.
Stealth is where the vessel really shines, however. From the onboard cloak to the nightshadow coating, the sensor jammers to the whisperthrust engines, every possible step has been taken to ensure that while it can definitely fight its way out of any situation, it doesn’t always have to. Indeed, if everything goes according to plan, ideally no one will ever know the Reprisal was even in the system.
