Named for the infamous Kessel Run, the Kessel-class Armed Courier is a courier light freighter designed by Concord Specialized Technologies most distinguished by its single sythe wing. While it is relatively slow for a courier, the Kessel-class’ makes up for this with an added armament, leading to its official designation of armed courier. This armament was meant to make it more suitable for operating in hostile space, and allow the lighter vessel to take on pirates and raiders that might want to take any special cargo.
Though the Kessel-class is officially an armed courier, it is often pushed into a gunship role by governments or groups that cannot afford full military vessels. This role has led to some questions of the craft needing to be redesignated by some governments, but the arguments are generally shot down by CST, who have noted that any light freighter or courier vessel can technically be pushed into being a gunship in a pinch, but the suitability of the armament to gunship operations does still leave questions.
