Khindys Kaai
Resistance General
General Khindys Kaai
Name: Khindys Kaai
Species: Cathar
Gender: Male
Age: 52 Standard Years
Height: 5'11" (1.8m)
Weight: 164 lbs (74.3kg)
Force-Sensitive: No
Faction: The Resistance
Rank: General
Strengths:
+Skilled Tactician: Khin is a veteran of many battles, both ones he has directly participated in and ones he has directed from afar. His experience serves him well in either situation. He is used to out-thinking and outmaneuvering enemy forces with superior numbers and firepower on the fly, making snap decisions and anticipating enemy movements. He fights smart and with great caution; those who have worked with him are only half-joking when they say his contingencies have contingencies.
+Galactic Knowledge: Over thirty years in the Sector Rangers taught Khin a lot about how the galaxy really works. He knows hundreds (if not thousands) of obscure Outer Rim hideaways, cheap but efficient weapons dealers, reliable back shipping channels, and secret hyperspace routes. This knowledge makes him extremely difficult to pin down and allows him to obtain just about any kind of supplies almost anywhere, though the ways he manages it tend not to be pretty.
+Gearhead: Khin has worked with machines since his early childhood, and knows a wide variety of devices (from protocol droids to rocket launchers to starship engines) literally inside and out. His familiarity with technology means that he is virtually never ripped off on a deal; he haggles well, partly because he often knows the product better than the seller does. He's also capable of fixing (or at least jury-rigging) just about anything given sufficient time and materials.
Weaknesses:
-Aging: At just past fifty, with plenty of bruises, breaks, and blaster burns earned along the way, Khin is not quite so spry as he used to be. He has steady enough hands to be a good shot and stamina enough to keep himself on the move, but the front lines are less his place these days than the bridge of a starship. That doesn't mean that he recognizes or accepts that he's slowing down, though, no matter how many times the medical droids tell him to be more careful.
-Hardheaded: Khin is stubborn to a fault, slow to back down even when there's no way for him to win. He's also more than a little obsessive, taking a personal and vengeful interest in any enemy he can't defeat - yet. Both traits contributed to his ability to stick with his difficult position as a Special Enforcement Officer, a job that most agents give up within a decade, but they also have a tendency to get him into situations that can't possibly end well for him.
-Past Trauma: Khin had a difficult childhood, followed shortly by a difficult adulthood. He's seen the worst in people from one side of the galaxy to the other, and it's made him something of a cynic; he believes in tangible gains, not lofty promises or high ideals. He's also made a significant share of enemies over the years thanks to his work as a Sector Ranger, and criminals (and their bosses) who remember him all too well have a tendency to strike back at him.

Khin is a Cathar of about average height, his fur and hair a mixture of black, white, and grey. The jet black of his beard and head hair are the result of a dye job, hiding the grey strands that are increasingly creeping into his mane. But there are other signs of his age. His forest green eyes are hard and tired, and his posture, once ramrod straight, stoops a little to favor an injured hip. But his mind - and his gravelly voice - are as sharp and clear as ever, and there is a stern confidence in the set of his jaw that inspires respect.
Khin almost always wears a red and black duster coat reinforced with fitted leatheris armor; the coat's been with him a long time, and it has the holes and ragged edges to prove it, but it's as much a part of him as the glare he gives anyone who suggests he replace it. Beneath it he wears comfortable, utilitarian clothing in dark colors, the sort of garments that allow freedom of movement and can easily conceal weapons or blend into the shadows. He always travels armed, usually with a blaster pistol fitted for a quick draw and a few extra tricks up his sleeves.

Khindys Kaai, known to close friends as Khin and many others as "yes, sir," was born on one of the moons of Bogden; his parents, roving salvagers tied to no place in particular, couldn't for the life of them remember which. He grew up at a school of hard knocks, learning what bits of scrap were valuable and how to keep his head down and stay out of trouble. As he got older and his independent streak began to assert itself, he grew more and more resistant to his parents' subsistence way of living, culminating in a fight that saw him strike out on his own at age fifteen.
Keenly intelligent, Khin made up for lost time by enrolling in the school system of Coruscant, then-capital of the Galactic Republic. He was deeply inspired by the Sector Rangers, people who upheld the law in a galaxy he knew all too well was full of ugly chaos, and set all his considerable determination on becoming one. At eighteen he enrolled in the academy; at twenty-one, he was a full-fledged ranger. He distinguished himself by being unafraid to trudge through the filth of the Coruscant underlevels, and was soon pursuing leads throughout the sector.
At twenty-five his exposure of an intersystem counterfeiting ring earned him a promotion to task force leader, and he took to the officer position like a firaxan shark to water. Later that year he took the exam to become a Special Enforcement Officer, with jurisdiction to pursue suspects across Sector lines and even outside the borders of the Republic, and passed with flying colors. For the next two decades he hardly slowed down, capturing or eliminating hundreds of criminals and earning an impressive reputation - along with several commendations.
But roaming outside the Republic also brought Khin into contact with a number of oppressive regimes, places where the law was a bludgeon against the common people instead of a shield for them. And as all his efforts seemed to do little to stem the flood of evil, he began to wonder if there were better fights to be fighting. When the First Order coalesced out of scattered post-Imperial warbands and emerged from the Unknown Regions right in the middle of the external sector he was commanding, he decided that it was a sign. Time to change tactics.
Retiring with honors from his post as Director of External Operations, Galactic West-Southwest Outer Rim Region and leaving the ailing Republic behind, Khin sought out the Resistance that was squaring up against the First Order and offered them his skills. The ragtag band had a lot of heart but few experienced commanders, and the former Sector Ranger found himself catapulted into a major command role. He turned his experience and determination to keeping the movement supplied and one step ahead of its enemies, though the responsibility quickly began to weigh heavily on him.
Exactly how long he can continue to bear that burden remains to be seen.
