Private Killing in the Name of

Taris was a world that she visited briefly once before to help someone who was attempting to work undercover on the city world. However, she did not linger long on the world. Instead, Eira continued to move forward with life. After Woostri, Eira was determined to etch her name into the fear of the Jedi. They were seeing her at her weakest currently, each day she lived was a day that she was getting stronger. Each failed killing of her was becoming a moment when she would be getting stronger, where she was unlocking more potential. That one day she would return and there would be no Jedi that could rival her power. That she would one day invoke the level of fear that Carnifex did, that Empyrean did, that Srina did and that she was helping Quinn develop as well.

The city world was an opportunity for Eira to blend into the crowds, wait, watch. Find her target and kill. A chance to show that not even in the borders of their precious Galactic Alliance would people be safe. That Eira was always going to be in the shadows and she could strike at any moment. She was an assassin, she fully intended to demonstrate what an assassin could do to increase panic, disrupt peace and sow the seeds of chaos.

She was not wearing her mask yet, to move through the security, to blend into the crowd. Eira couldn't risk donning it yet but she knew when it was time. Her eyes flickered to where the sun was as she walked through the top levels of Taris. Even under Jedi rule, this world was filled with those too wealthy willing to crush those too poor to look after themselves. It was pitiful and demonstrated the peace these Jedi spoke of was a lie. What this was silent oppression.

Eira's target was someone wishing to challenge to societal norms. To claim they would make Taris better. Eira intended to silence such a voice publicly. Act as if she was hired by the wealthy to ensure the oppression remained unchallenged. Revolution needed martyrs and Eira was intrigued if she could trigger a chaotic revolution with her kill.

That would be truly delicious.

Donning her mask, the time was nearly here and she pulled out a dagger. Ready to strike at the heart of her target. She knew they would be here soon enough.

The visit to Taris had been a formal one. A potential candidate for Senator of Taris had requested a jedi as their new bodyguard, wanting to protect themselves after a string of assassination attempts by several parties. Tatis was still a new world in the scope of the GA, and Jonyna was happy to oblige.

A contingent of the Service Corp Fleet still hung in orbit, even months after the sith incursion and subsequent entrance into the alliance. Taris had...been through a lot. Once used as a point of retreat by the Alliance after a failed battle on Yavin.

Moments like this reminded Jonyna of her mission statement.

Do good.

In this case, that meant helping someone who was in need of protection. A soul such as her own, wanting to do good for their people.

"I appreciate this, Master Si." He spoke as he stepped off the transport, into the city. "We've been getting reports of Sith incursions, as well as Imperial and Mandalorian. Being on the border is not an ideal situation."

"Just be glad you're in the border, not on the other side. Cathar is still under Mandalorian reign, even if it's left alone."

"A fair point. I appreciate your fleet staying above us. My people can look up and see hope in the sky. A lot can be said about what that does for us."

"It's not a problem. I've still had to keep the majority of the fleet over Jedha, we're still dealing with restoring it after the witch turned it into a snowball."

"I heard of that. I wish you the best in that, but unfortunately my planet takes my attention more than anything."

Jonyna extended her senses, as she was tend to do. She was playing bodyguard, and that meant keeping her eyes open. The wind stirred, as Jonyna used it to make a mental map of the city before them. Extending her sense of touch through the wind was a skill she had mastered, but it still strained her mental and spiritual faculties some. Especially after Woostri, she had pushed herself hard lately.

Looking up, seeing the GA imperial presence, it reminded Eira of how things were on Jutrand. Two sides of the same coin. The Jedi preach they are different, yet here they are, demonstrating military force to ensure the people felt "safe". However, the Sith are vicious, oppressive dictators when they do such actions. It was intriguing the justifications that one takes when they refuse to see the similarities their actions take. Eira chuckled to herself when she thought on the similarities that the Sith Order and the Galactic Alliance held. How much of a farce the democracy that the Jedi attempt to uphold was.

Perhaps breaking the trust and beliefs of the civilians in the GA would not be as difficult as Eira initially thought. They might be perfectly primed for change. Change that the Sith could offer.

Taking a dagger out of the hidden place on her person, Eira watched as the target moved into light. There was a Jedi with them. Eira breathed out slowly, Eira knew that dealing with an actual Jedi, probably someone of a higher skill than herself was not a good idea. However, the determination in her to complete the mission burned deeply. Eira didn't wish to give up. She didn't want to back down just because she had spotted a Jedi at the final moment. What would her Master say? What would her other mentors say? That she was a coward for surrendering at the first opportunity when things seemed harder.

That was unacceptable.

Eira gripped the dagger tighter and then poured her Force energy inside it. She wasn't going to achieve this with a simple dagger throw, she needed to put some effort into this. Go big or go home, a failure.

Throwing the dagger, the force behind the blade rocketed it faster than a normal throw was possible. It wouldn't just stab the target, it would devastate the body and leave a mess that would traumatise those celebrating this figure for years to come. A lingering memory of what happened when you stepped out of line.

It was a flash of precognition.

Jonyna's ability to sense the future was limited, but when she was actively looking, she could see moments like this. Faster than an eye could blink, she drew her katana Sally, and deflected the dagger thrown. Whatever Force Energy it had been imbued with burned away as it contacted Jonyna's blade, as Jonyna stepped forward, trying to pinpoint where the dagger came from.

The would-be senator took cover, as Jonyna looked towads the crowd, scanning with both the Force, and the wind.

She knew someone was out there, and she wouldn't allow herself to be taken off guard.

She held her katana out, taking a guard stance that looked basic, but allowed her to protect her vital areas for projectiles.

"You can come out and fight like a real warrior, or hide and run like a coward. Your choice."

The crowd around Eira took cover as soon as the clashing of metal occurred. It would have been easy enough for Eira to do the same, but she remained standing. With the demonic mask, her eyes glowed even more intensely red. Her hand lifted up and she recalled her dagger into her hand. The Jedi revealed a card early in the fight. They also seemed to not sense Eira's attack till the last minute, another curious thing to take away. Eira knew making mental notes on enemies was crucial if she wanted to be an assassin of any renown.

"Seems your oppressive forces could not prevent my coming. Perhaps a demonstrate that the GA is not as impenetrable as these people wished it to be. Spread too thin, perhaps." Eira teased in her demonic tone, her voice warped of anything that could be recognisable if she removed the mask. "Or perhaps loyalty to the Alliance is less important to the wealthy than insuring their profits remain high?" Deliberating and very publicly accusing people of traitorous thoughts.

Why fight with blades when her words could have more lasting damage?

"Let's see if you can reassure this wannabe senator and these civilians that you can protect their lives by killing me, or at the very at least, capturing me to make sure I can't just return at a later point and slice his throat in his sleep." Eira laughed deeply, taking steps back towards the nearby alleyway that held darkness untouched by the sunlight.

Let the game of cat and mouse begin.

Jonyna watched the assassin speak with a laser focus. She wasn't much interested in the words, as any sith would spin a yarn to convince the populous they were here to harm them.

It was sith brainwashing at it's finest.

But Jonyna always wasn't much interested in chasing ghosts. If this assassin wanted the senator, they'd have to go through her.

Jonyna watched the sith assassin slip into an alleyway, but Jonyna didn't follow. Instead, she sent out a Light Side Familiar, an owl, to do so for her. A hunter was smarter than to let the prey set the pace.

Instead, she looked around to the crowd, cowering in fear. "Rest assured, I will stay to protect you all. Your to-be-senator included."

The owl, on the other hand, a spectral avian flew down the alley, wide eyes scanning for where the assassin had gone.

Eira clung to the shadows, her dark attire helping to hide her presence, especially when the dumb bird attempted to find her. Eira was so far not impressed with this supposed Jedi Master and the choice of animal to work for her was strange. Owls were slow, they were easy to fool. A hawk, eagle or even crow would have some purpose and skill to them for them to be useful in combat. The assassin sighed in disappointment since she knew that this Master thought she could protect her target from his fate by just standing beside him.

"His fate is doomed. He needs sleep. You will leave here one day. The man is just a walking corpse." Eira's voice echoed from several locations and seemed to projected from many places in the dark shadows of the alleyway.

"The only way to stop me is to come get me Jedi. Or perhaps you are too scared to face the darkness." Eira mocked darkly as she projected her demonic laughter to demoralise and terrorise the civilians as well as Jonyna.

Eira was merely playing with her hunt now. Enjoying the fact that she will be building fear she can feed off of.

"Not scared, just uninterested." Jonyna shot back, her own voice echoing on the wind. And owl was slow, but it's eyes could cut through the dark.

Especially when it wasn't trying to attack.

Suddenly, the owl flared it's wings, and let loose a blinding light, intent on flushing out the shadows of the alleyway.

"Your tricks won't work on me." Jonyna said with a snarl, her voice projecting from the Owl itself. "I know what you really want. You want the senator dead. If you want that, come face me head on. Or is it you who is scared, assassin?"

Eira yawned as the blinding effects of the Force attempted to remove her eyesight and briefly illuminate the surrounding area. Eira however knew how to trust in the Force and did not need her eyes to see. She launched a dagger at blinding speed to the owl, intending to spear the bird dead. Her attitude was not one impressed with the situation was facing. The Jedi was the worst kind of Jedi.

Boring.

"He can die today, tomorrow, next week, next month. I do not care when he dies but he will die." Eira sighed, disappointed that the Jedi was ignoring her point here. "Fact is, you won't be here forever and therefore cannot guarantee the man's safety. Unless you come to stop me." Eira laughed since the fact was, if she was allowed to escape, she had won.

So she moved back into the shadows, willing to leave the location and hide until things had died down again to strike the target. Nothing was forcing Eira to remain here and the owl would not be keeping up with her.

Before the blade could strike, the bird disappeared.

"Ah, but you misunderstand my position." Jonyna smirked. "A coward like you would not risk a direct assault. That's all the sith are, cowards compensating for their inadequacies through displays of ill-gotten power. If you were a real warrior, you'd leap from the shadows and strike me down now. I've gotten in your way, after all. Wouldn't a real sith take what they want? Our are you not powerful enough yet? A youngling flailing in the darkness at a Master of the Light."

Jonyna knew the game.

"I can have Knights stationed by this senator's side at all times. Have my capital ships parked in orbit. Have the Shadows of the order hunt you down. Don't think I wouldn't, I'm not the type of jedi you think you know. I'm a Rebel at heart, and willing to take people like you down with the full might of the Alliance."

Jonyna once more drew her sword, twirling it as she paraded around the square. "All you'll find is me, standing in your way, every step. So strike me down, take what you want, and give it your best shot. I'm not afraid of you, your monsters, or your lords. I've faced them and survived. Hit me, acolyte. I dare you."

Eira sensed the disappearance of the bird, it was enough. The beast was gone and that is all that Eira desired. She pulled the dagger back into her hand and slid the weapon back into a hidden spot on her body. Breathing in deeply, the Jedi seemed to decide that she would go into a long winded rant. The notion that anyone could be perfectly protected and that Eira would never be able to achieve her kill. It was foolish dreaming from the Jedi, something she thought that they would have realised to drop after their failed attacks on Echnos.

With a bored sigh, "you could not keep me from entering your faction's borders. This planet was not able to prevent me from walking here freely. Do not lie to him and claim he will be safe 100% of the time." Eira countered as she looked over to where Jonyna and her target was. "Your men will falter, your assumptions that I moved on will override your desires to keep him safe. Your people will be needed elsewhere as the Sith continue to conquer your words." Eira mentioned in a calculated tone, time was not in Jonyna's favour.

Eira could wait. She was willing to be patient.

"Ironic you claim to be a rebel but you clearly bow to the cause and bend to the will of the system that oppresses people under the premise they are protecting them more an even worst evil." Eira laughed, no one in the GA could claim to be a rebel. They were the system, compliant in the crimes and militaristic nature of the faction. A far cry the purity a Jedi could claim to be and serve.

"Is that what they told you? That we're weak, compliant, and simple? I find that pathetic. I've impaled moffs, beheaded stormtroopers, slain Inquisitors. Stared down your Carnifex and Empyrean and lived to tell the tale. Wounded them. I'm more a rebel than you'll ever be. You're just a pawn in the game of Lords who think themselves gods. A coward who hides in the shadows and waits for their perfect moment. You underestimate us, just like you always have. I've lived the history books. Seen what your sith do when they become complacent."

Jonyna purposely turned her back. She didn't need to humor this sith. "You underestimate the people I trust. Taris is a stone throw away from Onderon. I can ask my fiance to guard this man with men who would gladly take up arms against your kind, Mandalorians who still want blood from what you did to them. I could throw my company at the problem, hire droids who would never tire, never sleep. I'm a councilwoman, I could get the Temple Guard on this job. You're not getting near him. So either you strike him down now, when the iron is hot, or you can slink away like a vulptex in the night with your tail between your legs, or you could face me. Fight against the storm, and hit me with your best shot. Your call, little lady. I know what a real sith would do."

It seemed the Jedi was insistent on ignoring what Eira had to say. Preferring the sound of her own voice in the arrogance and ignorance that was being displayed by Jonyna. Eira sighed deeply and stepped from the dark alley, no weapon in hand, her mask still on to hide the identity of who she was. There was a bored look in the body language that Eira displayed as well.

Her vision was quickly returning to her in the moments passing as well.

"Carnifex killed me. Yet here I stand, still very much alive. I doubt you would be as resilient if he killed you." Eira mocked, knowing that the Jedi would face a death not as gentle as the one Eira faced under the hands of Carnifex. "I have killed your soldiers, by the many. I have struck down Jedi. I have survived the best that is thrown at me, coming back stronger. Can you say the same? I mean, you act like you can but if you were truly stronger then Carnifex and Empyrean would be dead, would they not?"

"Do not brag when it highlights your failures, it shows you have little to your name besides failings of the Jedi." Eira growled, "you live in ivory towers, arrogant in your power, in your safety. But the Sith grew stronger. We watched you stagnate and become compliant. We grew more powerful, took back the power lost to us. Your order is weak and getting weaker, you cannot lie to these people and promise them protection."

Eira smirked behind her mask, "you failed to stop us several times already, and we are only just getting started. Soon enough, you will be fleeing from Sith far from here that you can't afford to keep this world protected."

"And I will always be in the shadows, waiting to strike. Waste your resources here but you will not find me, you will not stop me. The man is dead. Expend your efforts and power here, demonstrate that a lone assassin struck so deep into your fears that you weakened yourselves as a whole to stop me."

With that, Eira disappeared back into the shadows. Fading away with a cackle.
