Zofia Marek
Master and Commander
Name: Karl Ek XXII
Loyalties: Ganath
Role: Monarch of Ganath
Development Threads: It's Just Good Business
Age: 36
Species: Ganathan
Appearance:
Stocky and solidly built for a Ganathan, Karl is often the dominating presence in the room. The Ganathan is wide-shouldered and muscular, courtesy of his personal training and sparring program, and often prefers fatigues over suits and formal wear. While somewhat on the short side of things, he is most recognizable by his close-cropped hair, prizefighter face, and a sometimes blatant disregard for formality.
Personality:
King Karl is often bluntly informal, almost to the point of rudeness in most situations. The Ganathan means well, but is often seen as aggressive by outsiders simply because he often lacks the patience for political debate, lengthy discussions, and has earned a reputation for such after an incident where the Monarch once placed a Republic representative in a headlock before throwing the man out of the palace personally (Karl later apologized to the man, even sending the man a dozen vintage wines from various worlds in the galaxy, as days before a death threat had been issued against the king by an unknown human that bore an appearance similar to the Representative sent to Ganath).
In general, the regent of Ganath tends to be very easy going, though extremely blunt, in most situations. In addition, the king is extremely loyal to his people and planet, consistently placing himself and his family second to the needs of his responsibilities.
Force Sensitivity: N/A
Weapon of Choice: Karl Ek is trained in most standard melee and ranged weapons, though he his far more highly skilled and considered an expert in traditional Ganathan hand to hand fighting.
Skills:
Wealth: Planetary Monarch/Access to Royal Treasury
Combat Function: In the rare instance the king should find himself in combat, it should be noted that he would be able to hold his own for the most part with melee or ranged weaponry due to prior training. In hand to hand combat, however, he will often hold the upper hand in most situations until presented with an opponent with equal or greater skill/training or is essentially swamped with attackers.
Notable Possessions: As King of Ganath, his possessions are generally too many to list, though feasibly short of things like an Imperial Star Destroyer, he can probably gain access to many things within reason. That said, he probably won't be handing out expensive toys like candy to people who show up and rescue a cat from a tree or vacation in a hot tub.
History:
King Karl Ek XXII of Ganath was born with the name of Markus Ek to his parents, King Karl XXI and Queen Eva of the House of Ek. The youngest child of the family, Markus had two older sisters, Ingrid and Anita, but with the laws of succession, young Markus was named Heir Apparent.
Raised within the royal palace, Markus grew quickly and was soon the terror of the grounds. He developed a love of what he felt were the key things in his life: anything that had nothing to do with being royalty.
In between lessons of government workings and state laws, Markus learned how to fight and wrestle from those brave enough to teach him. He was taught military tactics and how to manage the royal treasury all while learning the finer points of various choke holds and throws that many professional martial artists passed on to him. By the time his education was complete, Prince Markus Ek understood how the Ganathan government, economics, and legal systems operated on his home planet... but knew every nuance and trick in the book on how to properly hurl an opponent across the ring. For most, the belief that young Markus would prove a lackluster leader was a well accepted fact, but as time crept on, it was, ultimately, incorrect.
Following a freak accident that caused the deaths of both of his parents and the severe injuries of his middle sister, Anita, Markus was crowned regent of Ganath and adopted the name Karl XXII. His rise to the throne was believed to be the start of an era of eccentricities or, at worst, one of stagnation. Instead, it became an era of progress.
Karl XXII focused on centralizing production and attempted to keep goods and services domestic and within Ganathan territory. He reformed industrial laws and regulations and ordered higher safety standards on imported machinery such as speeders and vehicles, his own family among hundreds who had suffered from poor quality machinery that had slipped through Ganathan import standards. In addition, he pushed for medical reforms and scientific advances that were designed to aid those born or somehow rendered physically crippled or disabled, such as his sister, Anita, who had survived the speeder accident that had killed their parents.
Once done, he turned his eyes to the Ganathan military. While small, the armed forces of Ganath were considered technologically backward and relied on antiquated technology such as steam powered starships. While unable to progress military and space technology by the leaps and bounds he had taken with medical progress, Karl XXII pushed the limits as far as possible. Royal engineers designed and introduced a new type of cyclical steam engine designed to quadruple energy output produced by the previous designs. This allowed Naval ships to nearly keep pace with foreign vessels, but despite this the King knew their strengths lay not in direct force of arms, but in the natural defenses of the Ganath System.
Karl ordered the construction of numerous stations dotted throughout Ganathan space to both watch for and harry any foreign attack. The achievement was a massive undertaking and projected to take many years with the materials the planet had available. Currently, the project is nearly half complete, something that King Karl XXII hopes will accelerate with the introduction of new, cheap imports brought in by new agreements and investments with the RGTC.
Intent: To give a name, identity, and longer OOC lifespan to Ganath's leadership and to give a name and personality to the chief investor in the Royal Ganathan Trade Company.
