Intent: Continue adding to Pamarthe’s ever expanding Chaos canon. And I mean, look at that image. C’mon. It had to be done.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Name: Sheepo
Designation: Non-Sentient
Origins: Pamarthe
Average Lifespan: 25 Years
Estimated Population: Planetary
Description:
Kirree, more commonly known as 'sheepo', were a very large, herbivorous, semi-aquatic mammal native to Pamarthe’s freshwater regions. While wild populations were not unheard of, the species was heavily domesticated for meat, milk and their hide over the centuries, becoming the staple source of income and subsistence for many settlements around the planet. While originally believed to have possessed only lightly crimped coats, generations of domestication granted them the dense, thick wool that they are known for to this day.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION

Breathes: Type I
Average Height of Adults: 1.2m
Average Length of Adults: 3m
Skin color: Light Brown
Hair Color: Creamy-White
Distinctions:
As a large semi-aquatic ungulate, sheepo possessed four hoofed toes that are webbed, which allowed them to navigate the streams, rivers and estuaries of their native Pamarthe with a quite frankly surprising amount of grace. The position of their eyes, ears and nostrils was such that they could remain aware of their environment while almost completely submerged. When diving beneath the surface, their eyes were protected by a thin clear membrane that allowed them to see underwater, while their nostrils were capable of closing to help them hold their breath for several minutes at a time. In addition to being dense in bone and muscle, the species was known for its thick, crimped coat of wool over a leathery epidermis. Males of the species were readily identified by the curling horns that extended backwards from the top of their skull. Surprisingly for a creature so large, sheepo could subsist on a relatively small amount of vegetation due to their primarily sedentary lifestyle.
Races: N/A
Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive

STRENGTHS

Beneath the Surface: Sheepo were considered creatures of deceptive grace once submerged and were capable of moving through water with surprising speed.
Wooly Titans: Sheepo were prodigiously strong and were well versed in using their large bulk defensively to dissuade predators or rivals. Males in particular were known for their destructive charges.

WEAKNESSES

Lumbering Beast: For all their grace underwater, sheepo were awkward on land and had difficulty turning quickly.
Cooked By Progress: Heavy domestication took its toll on the species, making them heavily reliant on sentient intervention to ensure their thick wooly coats did not cause them to overheat during the Pamarthen summer.

CULTURE

Diet: Herbivorous.
Communication: Sheepo primarily communicated through a series of trumpeting, bellow and grunting noises that almost sounded like harsh, disonate laughter at a distance.
Technology level: N/A
Religion/Beliefs: N/A
General behavior:
In their native state, sheepo existed in small family herds of around twenty or so female members (cows) which were protected by a singular dominant male (bullram). To help avoid predators, these herds would spend the vast majority of their day immersed in slow moving sections of rivers, grazing on various riverbed and riverside vegetation. While female members of the species were known to be relatively docile, males could be aggressive towards rivals or smaller creatures (such as humanoids) that ventured too close to their herd. This behavior became increasingly more problematic during the species’ mating cycles.
To help mitigate this, domesticated sheepo were typically separated by gender at birth, with the males being raised primarily for genetic stock and meat purposes, while female were almost exclusively used in the production of milk and wool. Domesticated examples of the species were typically found to be less intelligent and more placid than their wild counterparts due to have been bred for select traits.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

‘How was the greater skyeel to blame,
if the sheepo were roaming free?’

- Old Pamarthen Saying

Sheepo were a heavily set species of semi-aquatic ungulates native to the freshwater regions of Pamarthe’s island chains. Wild examples of the species dwelled in slow moving sections of streams, rivers and even some estuaries, where they survived the harsher threats of the water logged world by submerging themselves underwater at the first sign of trouble. A valuable instinct that, due to an initial misunderstanding around its purpose, gave rise to the common phrase ‘drown your head in the riverbed’ when someone is attempting to avoid unpleasant truths or the reality of the situation.

Though the males of the species proved to be a difficult obstacle to overcome, sheepo presented the settlers with an ideal source of meat, milk and textiles that resulted in their heavy domestication. This resulted in a gradual shift in the appearance of the species as specific traits were prioritized over the generations, leading for the common example of a sheepo to scarcely resemble the creature the settlers first encountered. Frequent crossbreeding between wild and escaped sheepo further confused the matter, with most Pamarthen’s being hard pressed to even describe what the species looked like originally.
