SETTING INFORMATION
• Structure Name: Kitra Scrap Yard
• Classification: Scrap Yard & Residence
• Location: Outside Mos Eisley, Tatooine
• Affiliation: Valae Kitra
• Accessibility: While the scrap yard was always a small operation, it is fairly easy to find. It was previously open to the public, but few chose to frequent the junk piles.
• Security: N/A
• Description: The remains of an small scrap yard owned by the Kitra Family. Even in its prime, business was scarce and the earnings quite meager. As a result, the yard always was in poor repair – quite dilapidated, even for a scrap outfit. Viewed by the locals as a bit of a laughing stock, there were always bigger and better junk dealers in the area. The Kitra Scrap Yard has been out of business ever since Atticus Kitra passed away.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Yard: While the whole of the Kitra Property is surrounded by a wall, there is a portion that is noticeably littered with scrap. Though there are “no trespassing” signs posted in plain sight, they are merely empty threats, as Atticus Kitra is no longer alive to enforce them. But any would-be scavengers that do happen to venture into the scrap yard will be sorely disappointed. While there are a few small crafts and speeders, none are operational or of significant value. Most of the scrap left behind from the business consists of small, spare parts. However, there may still be a droid or two buried somewhere beneath layers of detritus and sand. There are also a few broken down out-buildings and storage sheds.
The Kitra Homestead: A small, unassuming home that would fit up to three at best. This is where Valae Kitra was raised by her father. Like most dwellings on the desert world, it features a domed structure and the main living space is underground. Though the occupants have been gone for some time now, the inside remains untouched. The belongings of Atticus and Valae have been undisturbed, just like the day they were left behind. And like the scrap yard, the inside of the Kitra home has seen better days.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Kitra Scrap Yard was never a tremendous source of income for the family. It was a business that was operated mainly by Valae herself. Though Atticus was the owner and operator, he was rarely seen doing any actual work. But the young woman did her best to salvage what she could from the desert. The father and daughter team had a reputation around Mos Eisley, and were often looked down upon by the other dealers in the area. They had never been considered competition.
Atticus Kitra died on the steps of the family home; his days of drinking had finally done him in. Though Valae was in a numb sense of shock, she did what she could to give her father a proper send off. That very same night, the young woman happened to meet [member="Thurion Heavenshield"]. Soon after that chance meeting, she made the decision to leave with the Grandmaster and study the ways of the Jedi. With Valae away on Voss, there was no one left to continue running the failing business.
Though Valae keeps busy with her duties, she does make a point of visiting her home when she has the chance. Despite the hard times spent here, there were some good times, too. Even though the happy times were few, there are enough fond memories to make her feel homesick every now and then.
