The Tenjin ion torpedo launcher is a specialized variant of the Torrent energy torpedo launcher manufactured by Lucerne Labs, modified to fire large packets of ion energy instead of fusion plasma. So at the sacrifice of any physical damage potential (aside from disabling electronics), the Tenjin's shield busting capabilities are superior to the original Torrent.
Development of the Tenjin originally came about at the request of the Kiribian Spacy, who liked to use the Torrent defensively as a interdiction platform against enemy attack craft, whittling away at fighter swarms before they could enter engagement range. As most attackers would be deterred by the prospect of having their shields stripped, the Spacy figured it would be better to have a more specialized platform geared toward that purpose, with all the other benefits that come from the use of ion weapons.
Intent: To create an effective energy torpedo launcher.

Being ion based, the weapon is excellent at depleting or penetrating shielding, and disabling electronics.

No homing capabilities, so the torpedo is locked in one trajectory once launched.
Damage, range and velocity are reduced as fire rate increases. At its fastest rate, the system has about the range and velocity of a long range starfighter grade laser cannon, and the damage output akin to a starfighter-grade heavy ion cannon.
