- Each of the KNT-044's joints can be rotated 360°, including the torso and head.
- The droid brain of each KNT-044 has been programmed for adaptive learning, meaning that each battle droid learns during combat and can apply that knowledge, much in the way than an organic soldier accumulates experience.
- By default, each KNT-044 is constructed without specific gender programming, almost always referred by engineers and soldiers as 'it'. However, in part of the KNT-044's machine learning, they will often assume gender-specific pronouns of their own volition.
- Consequently, all KNT-044 models are equipped with an inhibitor module that ensures that a KNT-044 can never develop treasonous calculations, keeping them firmly loyal to the Kainate.

With the advent of open conflict on the horizon, the Kainate began to look into accelerating production of existing military assets alongside the development of new armaments and munitions. The Kainate's library of droids was already quite extensive by the time the KNT-044 was developed, this new series of battle droid benefiting from the various innovations either pioneered or adopted by the Kainate's Artificer's Guild and Shadow Mind.
The KNT-044 was envisioned as a heavy battle droid, larger than most bipedal droids employed by the Kainate, and more heavily armored. The chassis of the KNT-044 was fashioned from a Hexalloy-Duranium composite alloy, treated multiple times to reflect laser bolts and similar energy projectiles. The Hexalloy was sourced from external sellers, often through a labyrinth of third parties and fronts. The Duranium, meanwhile, was directly mined from asteroids and planets rich in the natural material, and subsequently extracted and processed.
This composite alloy was put through many strenuous tests, subjected to extreme conditions to measure the length of its durability. All the while, the alloy was modified in accordance with the results of these experiments. The final product was deemed exceptionally resilient and production of chassis parts was authorized by the Artificer's Guild, leading to the rapid manufacturing of KNT-044 parts. Internal components, such as servos, were cut through with insulating wiring and conductive sinks. At the very core of the KNT-044 was an internal skeleton made of Turadium, an exceptionally hardy material that even lightsabers had slight difficulty cutting through.
Manufacturing and assembling the KNT-044 was one thing, but programming its droid brain was another. This fell to Shadow Mind, the Kainate's science wing that handled research and programming. Under the careful supervision of Director Saryn Naberrie, Shadow Mind developed a high sophisticated program matrix that could be mass replicated and installed on every KNT-044 model produced and in production. Typical battle droid programs were built into this matrix, alongside various tactical and strategic routines.
The most exceptional aspect of this droid brain was its ability to machine learn. A single KNT-044 could analyze information that it received during combat operations, store it, and then retrieve it at a later point. Not only that, but it could use what information it had accumulated to alter calculations and decisions based on this previously acquired data. KNT-044 could even remember enemy strategies, memorize where they and other models failed, and recalculate new strategies to overcome their prior shortcomings. All of this accumulated data was transmitted to operational databanks present during each deployment involving KNT-044s, which were then deposited into a master databank on Malsheem.
KNT-044s were designed to operate most handheld weaponry employed by the Kainate Grand Army, although their manipulators were primarily made to carry medium to larger weaponry such as rifles and rotary cannons. Supplementing this was an array of interchangeable hardpoints built into the arms of the battle droid, one for each forearm and one for each palm. The forearm hardpoints could be outfitted with heavy weaponry, such as particle blasters and repeating slugthrowers. The palm hardpoints were for more close-range weaponry, such as flamethrowers, sonic blasters, bladed weapons, and even vibroharpoons.
The chest chassis of the KNT-044 hid several projectile launchers armed with Deathwasp micromissiles, primarily for use as anti-personnel deterrents. These launchers were hidden beneath the droid's armor plating, which shifted aside prior to firing. Likewise, the forward chest plate concealed a powerful beam cannon, which could be used against enemy infantry and light vehicles.
Typical chassis were painted white with red highlights, although the KNT-044 chassis could be customized for deployment in any environment.
