OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create a culturally significant edged weapon that has been used by the Norr for thousands of years with its' ferocious design having remained unchanged for millennia. It is the standard-issue blade of the Ryk's military, and for a Norr man or woman to not own one is considered so aberrant to be worthy of insult. An ancient Norr proverb about weapons be this: "Those who stand without blades can yet die upon them."

STRENGTHS
  • Balanced: Koarte is almost perfectly balanced in its construction; its' balance point is about an inch and a half down the blade, giving its' design excellent dexterity.
  • Full-tang: A Koarte's tang extends the sum total length of the handle, which is riveted to the blade; the rivets are traditionally concealed by leather wrapped tightly around the grip. This design rigidity lends the edge significant stability, which is required when its' traditional users put it under stress.
  • Mono-molecular edge: The Koarte's tungsten carbide edge is forged into a single molecule thick and, as such, has phenomenal cutting power; any material of thin thickness and a molecular density less than Beskar is liable to slice open over the edge. When thrust with a Norr warrior's immense strength, it can also punch through personal deflector shields.
WEAKNESSES
  • Crossguard: It goes without saying that the Koarte, from its appearance, doesn't feature a crossguard. Using such a device to parry is removed from the weapon's underlying hyper-aggressive design psychology. It is designed for one purpose: To stab and cut at the enemy until they are felled, or the wielder themselves is cut down. However, the absence of a crossguard is a significant disadvantage in edged weapon-on-edged weapon combat.
DESCRIPTION
The famous or infamous Norr "Koarte" is a design millennia old; the only appreciable difference between the blades constructed in antiquity and modern blades is the material science behind them. For the members of the Norr species, this sword epitomises the species with its appearance; simple, ferocious and brutal. It was once the primary weapon of choice for Norr combatants before the advent and widespread use of directed energy weapons for the species, as the high value for the gravity of their homeworld significantly hindered the effectiveness of conventional chemical firearms.

Traditionally, when Norr warriors carried these weapons in antiquity, it is alleged by contemporary historians they did so without sheaths, suggesting that this was because a sheathed weapon is not a weapon at all. Without their weapon, a warrior is useless, and if a blade is to be carried, it is to be used, so it should be in the wielder's hand. When held, a traditional sign of goodwill is to put the tip of the sword's blade edge hanging above the ground and behind one's legs, although overly visible, to not suggest treachery.
