OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To Sub another species for Thral

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Koryn Hydra
  • Designation: Non-Sentient
  • Homeworld: Thral
  • Language: N/A
  • Average Lifespan: 100-150 Years
  • Estimated Population: Rare
  • Description:
The Koryn Hydra looks like something that was concocted for a Fantasy Hologame. The beast itself is not dissimilar from what many would think of as a Krayt Dragon. It has four legs, a long slithering body, and...that's where the similarities stop.

Most eye-catching, and most obvious on the Koryn Hydra is the fact that it has multiple heads. The creature can have anywhere from two to five heads, though it never has less or more than this amount. The count of heads is decided during the Hydra's gestation in it's egg, and usually the more heads there are the less likely the Hydra is to survive. Every single Koryn Hydra also displays an equal number of tails for each of it's head, meaning for every head there is a matching tail.

Lastly the Hydra sports an odd pair of 'wings', though these do not actually allow the creature to fly. Instead they are used to scare larger predators and attract mates.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average height of adults: 6m
  • Average length of adults: 8-10m
  • Skin color: Green, Dark Brown
  • Hair color: N/A
  • Distinctions:
The largest distinction of the Koryn Hydra is very obviously it's multiple heads.

No one is really sure why the species has multiple heads, just that it does. These heads all function independent of one another and seemingly compete for everything, including food. Each of the heads are long and snake like, their jaws snapping, their teeth dripping with venom, and their eyes deadly focused on the next piece of prey that might wander in front of them. The heads almost always focus upon what is ahead of them, oddly enough hardly ever even glancing to the sides or even behind them.

Perhaps the second most eye-catching thing about the Hydra are it's grand 'wings'.

These two wings are, from what researchers have observed, entirely useless for the purpose of flight. The Koryn Hydra cannot fly and it is far too heavy to glide. Instead the wings appear to be used primarily for mating displays and scaring predators. A Koryn Hydra is able to flare up it's wings, allowing it to appear far larger than it actually is.
  • Races: N/A
  • Strengths:
Better Then One: The Koryn Hydra has multiple heads, and that means the creature isn't really one creature at all but two, or three, or...well you get the idea. This means that The Hydra is able to work through problems at an almost intelligent rate, with all of the heads competing to solve whatever problem is in front of it. It also means that a Koryn Hydra can be extremely difficult, if not impossible to control via the force. When one attempts to subdue the creature they do not have to quell and control just one incredibly vicious mind, but up to five.
Venom: Each of the Hydra's heads are capable of, and do, produce their own venom. This venom is of course similar across the board to all of the Koryn Hydra's and is extremely deadly. The Hydra's chief objective when hunting it's prey is simply for one head to bite and chomp down. The venom will take effect almost immediately and begin to cause an almost sleepy sort of feeling, eventually knocking out whatever is bitten and allowing the Hydra to feast.
  • Weaknesses:
Five Voices: The Hydra isn't exactly the most coordinated creature. A Koryn Hydra can have up to five heads, and that means five competing voices all kind of wanting to do their own thing. As one can imagine this means The Hydra is extremely conflicted at times, and is easy enough to distract. The best way to escape this creature is to turn the heads against one another, allowing one time to get the kark away from it while the different heads fight.
Lethargic: Unlike many other creatures within the Koryn Wilds the Hydra isn't actually an active predator. It likes to sit, wait, and basically do nothing. This is because The Hydra is cold blooded, and due to it's massive stature require a lot of sunlight to survive. Most of The Hydra's day needs to be spent within the tree tops, absorbing as much sunlight as it possibly can.

CULTURE
  • Diet: Carnivorous
  • Communication: N/A

  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior:
The Koryn Hydra is one of the more unique species that can be found on Thral.

This is mostly because unlike everything else The Koryn Hydra doesn't actually actively try to kill everything that moves...unless it's hungry. Most of the Hydra's day is spent lounging within the Tree tops of the Koryn Wilds. The great Hydra's crawl and climb up to the canopy of the Wilds, digging their claws into the heavy wood and then simply laying within the sun for as long as they physically can. If one were to fly over the Koryn Wild's it would not be uncommon to see dozens of these creatures simply laying around doing nothing, their heads twisted among one another.

When one of the Hydra's grow hungry however their predatory instinct kicks in as well as any other creatures on Thral.

Koryn Hydra's are no slackers when it comes to hunting, and in all honesty they are probably one of the more intelligent creatures on the planets surface. Each head upon the Hydra's body works carefully and quickly to solve it's problem, that being how to get food. Most of the time the Hydra climbs from it's resting places, hanging from one of the massive trees within the WIld's and waiting for a Ciruk or another creature to come by.
As soon as it's prey comes the Hydra will strike, usually whichever head spots the prey first will move as soon as it can, the others then striking in quick succession. This technique is effective and allows the Hydra to quickly have it's meal.

During mating season The Hydra's tend to come down from their perches, wandering the forest and displaying their 'wings' for potential mates to see. During this time the Hydra's become more vulnerable. They are generally slower than most predators within the Koryn Wilds, and though their quest is a noble one, nothing else on Thral cares about Hydra having children.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Due to Thral not being studied long, not much is known about the history of this species.

Though various researchers have dabbled and glanced at the history of Thral and attempted to get a better timeline of when certain creatures appeared it has been found to be all but impossible to actually pin-point anything.

Unlike with the Ciruk, Vraxin, or many other species on Thral researchers were actually able to get quite a good look at The Koryn Hydra of Thral...however these images are almost entirely composed of the Hydra's simply laying in the canopy of the Koryn Wild's and doing absolutely nothing. Most everything that scientists know about the Hydra's is this, that they like to sit and sleep in the sunlight.

It is a paltry amount of data.

Unlike with the Ciruk or many other creatures on Thral researchers haven't even really been able to record any detailed information about the Hydra's themselves. Anytime anyone gets close to these devious serpents they invariably eat whatever researcher was trying to study them. The most that is known is that they are venomous, their heads act nearly independently, and when one of these nears the ground it is best to stay away from it.
Far away from it.

Then the Hydra would have one less head. The corresponding tail of the head would likely whither and become dead weight, but the creature would not die unless it loses too much blood. Since all of its heads control the body it would still keep moving around.
