SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
- Devastating, precise firepower against ground targets that absolutely need to be wiped out.
- Meiro Deactivation System and anti-PD shielding make them harder to shoot down without strong PD/anti-missile systems, although still possible.
- High cost of production due to high quality components, only found on relevant space submarines.
- Not very effective if launched against space targets due to the fact it does not have HPI cloaking and leaves a very distinct large and distinct thermal plume immediately when fired that gives away the location of the submarine. Nukes also do not work well in space and one would be better off using the stealth torpedoes instead.
*Player characters can use this to escape the worst effects of this or it completely if reacting fast enough by this for example, it's not a "gotcha!" weapon.
DESCRIPTION:
Rounding out the missiles for the new class of space submarine being developed by Voland Military Enterprises, the Koshmar Class VLS launched groundstrike missile is a versatile cruise missile with variable warheads that range from high explosive Iadrium and ion to variable strength nuclear fission (see this thread for that configuration). Due to being utilized exclusively against ground targets in atmosphere, it does not carry the HPI stealth technology like the other missiles on the ship because it needs to be able to travel quickly. Thus, while it can be fired from stealth, it will almost immediately give away the position of the space submarine due to its thermal plume, so it is advised to fire a few and then immediately move, or take out enemy long-range air defenses first if one wants constant support-a wise captain will thus think very carefully before ordering a Koshmar strike: it can be a powerful tool in support of ground operations, but can put the submarine itself in danger.
In its standard configuration, it carries three two types of warheads, the first two being high explosive iadrium and ion warheads. The latter (linked in the post) can only be ordered fired once the safeties are disabled and both the Captain and their XO enter their firing codes. It is rumored that the captains of submarines armed with these nuclear missiles in the XIII Battlegroup may not fire these missiles without the explicit permission of Admiral Voland herself or through extremely explicit guidelines. It remains to be seen what will happen if Rex Valhoun orders her or her men to use such missiles and they do not agree with the orders of their King.
