Special Features:
Sensors
Visor - Constructed from transparisteel, the visor functions to both protect the user and enhance their perception with a panoramic display built into the inner layers. The visor features an automatic polarization function to protect the user against glare and sudden flashes.
Augmented Vision/Sound Processors (AVSP) - This processing unit takes information from onboard sensors and external sources to create an augmented reality display to improve a user's situational awareness, rendered over the visor's inbuilt panoramic monitor. At the same time, sound is fed into internal helmet speakers, processed to accurately recreate the position of noises as if being heard by the naked ear. Filters will automatically activate to protect the user against harmful noises.
Multi-Frequency Targeting and Acquisition (MFTAS) - Onboard sensors mounted are on either side of the visor, capable of collecting electromagnetic and acoustic readings.
Heads Up Display (HUD): Along with an augmented view of the world, AVSP also displays figures and text, superimposed over the AR image feed. A user can cycle through the HUD display through the use of their eyes or voice commands.
[*]
Communications
Integrated comlink: A multi-frequency communication system that can work across the communication spectrum, over radio, laser-line/broadband, and subspace. The comlink comes with a vocalizer for external audio output.
Biocomm (Kiribian Variant Only)
[*]
Camouflage
Active Camouflage System (ACS): A visual camouflage system consisting of layer of electronic ink, which changes colors and patterns according to voltage changes. AVSP can be used to automatically control the changes, or the user can manually toggle different camo schemes.
[*]
Medical
[*]
Miscellaneous
Osmotic Field Generator: Mounted in bottom the helmet, the module can create a protective field to filter out contaminants from the air. It doubles as an internal atmospheric control system.
Air Canister: A small internal pressurized canister that can provide up to 30 minutes of fresh air. Additional canisters carried on the person can be slotted into the ports for the osmotic field generator. Tubes for large air tanks can also be inserted in a similar fashion.
Utility Belt & Tactical Vest: Worn over the armor, these items offers the user the option to carry additional ammunition and equipment. A standard loadout includes grenades, grappling hooks, ion flares, energy rations, spare comlink, medpacs, energy sinks, combat deionizer, and wrist binders.
Micro-Repulsors: Repulsor coils are integrated into the armor plates to help lighten the load of the user and move over tough terrain. A boost function allows user to enhance their speed or jumping ability for a few seconds at a time, with about a 20 second cool down times between use. The micro-repuslors offer some protection against gravity/anti-gravity weapons, and can help the user free themselves from gravity traps.
Magno Grip Boots
Tactical Computer: A wrist-mounted touch screen computer ruggedized for combat conditions and manipulation by gloved fingers. While a full computer, it can also be used to make adjustments to the various armor systems.
Internal Power supply: The chest piece houses swappable diatium cells for powering the armor’s systems.
Mithril Security Software
Strengths:
+Resistant to electromagnetic pulses and ion energy.
+Adaptive visual camouflage.
+Integrated medical suite.
Weaknesses:
-Damage to the armor can cause the ACS layer to malfunction.
-Range of motion somewhat limited.
-Less protection offered by exposed bodyglove sections.
-The armor is designed to protect the user primarily from opposing small arms fire. It fares poorly against direct hits from heavy weapons like anti-material rifles, grenade launchers, or full sized blaster cannons. If someone tries to tank through a hit from a weapon like that, they will have a bad time.
-No Force resistance.
Description:
The Gladius is a repulsor assisted personal armor system developed for use by the Kiriban military and security forces. The design has its origins with the Sentinel Initiative, a cancelled military modernization program started under the old Galactic Republic’s Flavian administration. While orders were cancelled for the armor system, KSA continued development and production to supply the Kiribian military with a new set of armor as a single replacement for myriad of redundant armors previously fielded by GR affiliated systems. Essentially, it was a mass production version of their previous Wraith-class armor, sans the stealth features in favor of greater protection and mobility. As several new powers were building up their militaries, KSA also looked to attract new customers with an armor system that could stand up to modern high-velocity mass driver weapons now being fielded.
The system is a form fitting flexible protective body suit overlaid with hard plates covering critical areas and joints. The bodysuit consists of several layers, beginning with an innermost layer of soft hypoallergenic microfibers for wicking sweat. The next layer is a gel layer to help regulate body temperature and to absorb shock. After that is a biorestorative underlay to help increase the survivability the user after sustaining injury. Finally, this is topped off by several sheets of mesh comprised of carbon-nanotubes, kevlar, and neutronium, designed to disperse energy across the surface of the body glove during impact. Sandwiched between these mesh sheets are liquid layers of polymer-based non-newtonian fluids, which momentarily harden into solid plates when struck at high velocity, helping the mesh layers disperse energy and to deform projectiles.
The plate sections of armor and the helmet are a composite construction of a back layer of neutronium impregnated ferro-carbon, a layer of reinforced duraplast for protection against electromagnetic pulses and ion blasts, a layer of electronic ink (ACS), and final top layer of transparisteel to protect the e-ink layer. The suits power supply, micro-repulsors, and much of the system’s electronic components are also built into the plate sections and helmet.
An export version was also produced, which is identical in performance to the Kiribian model, but lacks an integrated biocomm.
