Hyperdrive Class: Class 1, Class 12 (Backup)
Strengths:
Bruiser – The Kukri is well armed for its size. It packs a massive punch when able to close when enemy vessels. The ship has a solid, compact hull with Durasteel-
Turadium Alloy plating over key areas of the hull. The well powered shield grid can take a battering before being compromised.

Weaknesses:
Vulnerable to flanking – The Kurkri-class is designed to take on the enemy head on. Its guns firing arcs overlap to give it good coverage, however from the side it has less structural resistance to physical attacks (ordnance or mass drives) and the rear of the ship has no plating.

Complex design – The ships have been refitted from a fleet built by the Geonosians for the first Emperor. Whilst Hoersch Kessel and contractors from the rest of the Techno Union managed to get them operational, they came with no manuals and no support arrangements from the long dead Geonosian designers. On-field repairs are exceedingly limited, and damage will result in long-term drydock.

“I’m not going to fit in that space” – The Kukri has powerful main engines for rapid acceleration. However, it’s slower to turn to face new threats. This leaves the ship vulnerable to attack from multiple, hard-hitting frigates.

Description:
Deep beneath the surface of Geonosis, an ancient foundry had been buried for centuries. A single shaft, still intact and leading down to a series of reinforced caverns was recently found by Haor Chell engineering from one of their survey ships. Several artefacts had been extracted and moved to a secure facility.

Soon the facility was overrun by errant battle droids and has to be cleansed by ACA forces. Finding the scientists notes, a team was dispatched to Geonosis. Unbeknownst to them, four hundred years ago the caverns had been discovered by the Red Queen. A full army of automatons were slowly reactivated. However, the unstable land once again collapsed in and the foundry was left buried.

Once the ACA team had fought their way through the system of caverns and deactivated an off-shoot VI of the Red Queen, they discovered plans for both the original Death Star, and several other ships that hadn’t seen combat. One of which was described as having completed an initial production run. Digging deeper, the ACA discovered co-ordinates out in dark space above the galactic plane.

A scouting team jumped to the co-ordinates, but found nothing. On reconvening, they neglected to take into account to initial velocity and orbital position of the co-ordinates. A second jump led to a fleet of vessels, constructed in secret and long forgotten.

Hoersch Kessel began refitting the vessels over Hypori. The vessels had some technological advancements similar to the Death Star. Several highly advanced antimatter reactors and a remarkably well designed power network that directly fed the weapons systems.

Whilst compact, these vessels pack a massive punch. Most of the weaponry on the ships had been left charged, and these had serious degraded over time. The new Kukri-class vessels were refitted with heavy Deck-cannons, typical of Hoersch-Kessel warships. Unlike many ACA designs, the decision was made not to include a small amount of long-range ion weaponry. Whilst ACA doctrine calls for attempting to limit the enemy’s effectiveness at range, whilst closing with swarms of droid fighters and well-armed cruisers, it was decided that the power distribution network could not be reconfigured to accommodate such armament.

No launchers are available on the vessels. They are remarkable advanced, yet simple in design. They close on a target and hammer away. The deck-cannons attempting to penetrate shields quickly and do massive kinetic energy damage.

The ships have been a little troublesome. The blueprints included much of the design, but little on how to operate and maintain. A 3000-page manual, produced by HK, allows some limited maintenance in the field, but generally they have to be returned to docks for significant repairs. Sometimes a key system will fail in combat and leave the ship unable to do more than limp home.

Whilst several of these ships can decimate a much larger vessel, in turn they are vulnerable to hard hitting and nimble frigates. Attacks from the rear, or rapid flanking manoeuvres can catch these vessels out, particularly when acting alone.
